Australia's S&P/ASX 200 (Index: ^AXJO)(ASX: XJO) and ALL ORDINARIES (Index: ^AXAO) (ASX: XAO) indices finished higher on Friday.

Here's a short recap of the Australian market:

  • S&P/ASX 200 (Index: ^AXJO) (ASX: XJO) higher 0.15% to 6,185.50
  • ALL ORDINARIES (Index: ^AXAO) (ASX: XAO) higher 0.11% to 6,301.10
  • AUD/USD at US 71 cents
  • Gold at US$1,197.55 an ounce
  • Brent Oil at US$85.07 a barrel

The best-performing ASX 200 share today was rare earth miner business Lynas Corporation Ltd (ASX: LYC), its share price rose 9.5%.

Shares of Carsales.Com Ltd (ASX: CAR) went up 3.5% after it received some broker upgrades.

The share price of Wesfarmers Ltd (ASX: WES) went up 0.3% this afternoon after it made some announcements regarding the Coles spin-off. The Woolworths Group Ltd (ASX: WOW) share price rose 1.6% too.

Oil & gas business Beach Energy Ltd (ASX: BPT) shares went down 3.7% after it announced the sale of a stake of one of its assets and downgrading FY19 expectations.

Machine learning business Appen Ltd (ASX: APX) shares fell 4.1%, making it the worst faller in the ASX 200.

Shares of Afterpay Touch Group Ltd (ASX: APT) fell 0.2% after a potential competitor could cause it trouble in the future in the US.

Finally, one of the top performers in the ASX 200 was gold miner St Barbara Ltd (ASX: SBM) – it went up 6.3% today.
