IPOs

Not every ASX stock starts trading on a random Tuesday — some make a splash. An Initial Public Offering (IPO) is when a private company lists on the share market for the first time, letting everyday investors buy in alongside the founders and early backers.

The ASX saw a 37% jump in new listings in 2025, rising from 67 the year before to 92, with those new listings adding $38.8 billion in market capitalisation and $6.3 billion in capital raised, making 2025 the strongest IPO year since 2021. The average new listing returned 24.2% in 2025, though individual results varied wildly, from blockbuster debuts to first-day flops.

2026 has kept the momentum going. 17 companies had listed on the ASX by early July, though only around a third were trading above their issue price, a reminder that IPOs can be exciting but come with real risk.
