The S&P/ASX 200 Index (ASX: XJO) has ended the trading week on a very high high this Friday. Not only did today's session mark the ASX's fifth straight day of gains in a row, but it also left the index at a three-week high. The ASX 200 ended up closing at 7,251.2 points, up a robust 1.06%.

These gains came after another strong session on Wall Street overnight (our time). The Dow Jones Industrial Average Index (DJX: .DJI) closed with a healthy 1.26% lift in the early hours of this morning. For once it seems, the Nasdaq Composite Index (NASDAQ: .IXIC) trailed the Dow, rising by a more muted (but still pleasing) 1.15%.

The more comprehensive S&P 500 Index (SP: .INX) treaded through the middle of the other major US indexes, notching an increase of 1.22%.

So which sectors dominated today's pleasing end to the trading week here on the ASX? Well, it was ASX energy shares that were the driving force behind today's stellar performance. The S&P/ASX 200 Energy Index (ASX: XEJ) led the proverbial pack with its outsized rise of 3.52%.

Utilities shares were another strong performer, with the S&P/ASX 200 Utilities Index (ASX: XUJ) shooting up by 1.2%.

Mining and financials shares were both solid as well, with the S&P/ASX 200 Materials Index (ASX: XMJ) and S&P/ASX 200 Financials Index (ASX: XFJ) recording lifts of 1.06% and 1.11%, respectively.

The only sector to go backwards today was the S&P/ASX 200 Health Care Index (ASX: XHJ), recording a loss of 0.09%.

So let's now check out the top 10 ASX 200 share performers for Friday's session before we start the weekend.
