The S&P/ASX 200 Index (ASX: XJO) spent Tuesday in the red, closing the day 0.45% lower at 7,234.7 points. And there were plenty of sectors weighing it down.

The S&P/ASX 200 Consumer Staples Index (ASX: XSJ) was its worst performer. It fell 1.1% as shares in Elders Ltd (ASX: ELD) tumbled for a second consecutive day after the release of its first-half earnings on Monday.

The S&P/ASX 200 Information Technology Index (ASX: XIJ) also suffered, falling 1% despite the sector housing today's top performer.

But not all was bleak on the bourse on Tuesday. The S&P/ASX 200 Materials Index (ASX: XMJ) posted a 0.3% gain. It was potentially helped by a 1.5% overnight gain in iron ore futures –the steel-making ingredient's value lifted to US$106.77 a tonne.

So, with all that considered, let's take a look at the 10 ASX 200 shares that outperformed all others in today's session.
