Today, the S&P/ASX 200 Index (ASX: XJO) managed to deliver a positive session despite weakness in markets overnight. At the end of the day, the benchmark index finished 0.13% higher at 7,379.2 points.

Despite another lacklustre day for bank shares, the overall market pulled together for a green finish today. Leading the pack were real estate, consumer staples, and healthcare shares. Meanwhile, energy companies took a hit after a weak night for oil prices.

However, the question is: which shares delivered the biggest returns to investors on the ASX today? Here are the ten stocks that rose to the occasion:

Top 10 ASX shares countdown today

Looking at the top 200 listed companies, Evolution Mining Ltd (ASX: EVN) was the biggest gainer today. Shares in the gold miner strengthened 10.35% after announcing the $1 billion acquisition of Ernest Henry Mining Pty Ltd. Find out more about Evolution Mining here.
