Australia's S&P/ASX 200 (Index: ^AXJO)(ASX: XJO) and ALL ORDINARIES (Index: ^AXAO) (ASX: XAO) indices finished lower on Wednesday.

Here's a short recap of the Australian market:

  • S&P/ASX 200 (Index: ^AXJO) (ASX: XJO) lower 0.13% to 6.817.60
  • ALL ORDINARIES (Index: ^AXAO) (ASX: XAO) lower 0.19% to 6,930.10
  • AUD/USD at US 69 cents
  • Gold at US$1,592.62 an ounce
  • Brent Oil at US$69.18 a barrel

One of the best-performing ASX 200 shares today was Independence Group NL (ASX: IGO), its share price rose 6.3% today after making a production announcement.

Gold miners were some of the top performers today as the gold price jumped after Iran attacked US bases. The Newcrest Mining Limited (ASX: NCM) share price increased by 4% and the Regis Resources Limited (ASX: RRL) share price jumped 3.7%.

The share price of EML Payments Ltd (ASX: EML) rose 3.2% today, making it one of the best non-gold performers.

At the red end of the ASX the share price of WiseTech Global Ltd (ASX: WTC) dropped 3.25% after making another acquisition announcement.

Polynovo Ltd (ASX: PNV) gave up most of its gains from yesterday, its share price fell 8.1% today.

The share price of Caltex Australia Limited (ASX: CTX) rose almost 2% after confirming that it was talking to other potentially interested bidders.

Finally, the share prices of fund managers dropped on fears about the Iran situation. The Pendal Group Ltd (ASX: PDL) share price declined by 5.3%.
