Best and worst stocks on the ASX at midday

The market is up despite mixed leads from Wall Street overnight.

The S&P/ASX 200 Index (Index: ^AXJO) (ASX: XJO) is up 0.33% at 12:03 pm.

Wall Street reopened last night after a long weekend and put in a mixed result with the Dow Jones lower but the S&P 500 higher. Meanwhile the local bourse has received mixed leads from companies reporting this morning. Major companies reporting today have included Wesfarmers Ltd (ASX: WES), Woodside Petroleum Limited (ASX: WPL) and Suncorp Group Ltd (ASX: SUN).

Here are the top five best performing stocks in the index at midday today:

  • SEEK Limited (ASX: SEK) has soared 16.5% to $15.54
  • G8 Education Ltd (ASX: GEM) has added 4.3% to $4.12
  • Ardent Leisure Group  (ASX: AAD) has climbed 3.9% to $2.265
  • Northern Star Resources Ltd (ASX: NST) has risen 2.9% to $1.122
  • NRW Holdings Limited (ASX: NWH) has gained 2.9% to $1.477

These are the five worst performing stocks at midday today:

  • Mount Gibson Iron Limited (ASX: MGX) has sunk 11.9% to $1.057
  • Southern Cross Media Group Ltd (ASX: SXL) has dropped 7.1% to $1.495
  • SMS Management & Technology Limited (ASX: SMX) has lost 7.1% to $3.94
  • Trade Me Group Ltd (ASX: TME) has fallen 5.9% to $3.51
  • Arrium Ltd (ASX: ARI) has declined 4.3% to $1.67
