Best and worst stocks on the ASX today

The S&P/ASX 200 Index (Index: ^AXJO) (ASX: XJO) has added to last week's falls posting a drop of 1.26%. The sell-off on Wall Street continued on Monday with the Dow Jones down 0.26% and the S&P 500 down 0.4%, as investor concern on the outlook for China's economy continued to weigh on markets.

Here are the top five best performing stocks in the index today.

• JB Hi-Fi Limited (ASX: JBH) rose 4.9% to $19.19
• Arrium Ltd (ASX: ARI) gained 3.3% to $1.56
• Downer EDI Limited (ASX: DOW) climbed 2.5% to $4.97
• Myer Holdings Ltd (ASX: MYR) added 2.4% to $2.56
• Iluka Resources Limited (ASX: ILU) closed up 2.3% to $8.85

• Lynas Corporation Limited (ASX: LYC) dropped 6.3% to 30 cents
• Resolute Mining Limited (ASX: RSG) lost 6.1% to 54 cents
