It has turned out to be yet another positive day for the S&P/ASX 200 Index (ASX: XJO) this Tuesday. After rising every single day last week, the ASX 200 has made it two for two this week so far. The index ended up closing at 7,357.8 points this session, which was a healthy gain of 0.86%.
Between the start of last week and today, the ASX 200 is now up a pleasing 3.3%.
So what was driving today's strong showing from investors?
The ASX 200 sector that dominated today's optimism was energy. The S&P/ASX 200 Energy Index (ASX: XEJ) rocketed a happy 1.94% this Tuesday.
Real estate investment trusts (REITs) also fared well, with the S&P/ASX 200 A-REIT Index (ASX: XPJ) rising 1.31%.
The S&P/ASX 200 Materials Index (ASX: XMJ) was a decent performer too with its 0.91% gain. As was the S&P/ASX 200 Financials Index (ASX: XFJ) with its 1.19% rise.
In fact, the only sector that recorded a loss this session was the All Ordinaries Gold Index (ASX: XGD), which dropped by 0.16%.

Today's top-performing stock was financials share Magellan Financial Group Ltd (ASX: MFG). Magellan shares shot up by a hefty 5.37% to $9.02 each, despite no major news from the company.
However, it's worth noting that the Magellan share price has been on something of a tear for most of June, and is now up by around 13.4% since 8 June.
