If investors weren't already sick of 2022, today's performance of the S&P/ASX 200 Index (ASX: XJO) was yet another nudge to the downside. By the end of the day, the benchmark index was 0.94% lower at 7,020.1 points.

While the rest of the market was flatlining, the healthcare sector kept a pulse on Thursday. Positive showings by Telix Pharmaceuticals Ltd (ASX: TLX) and Fisher & Paykel Healthcare Corp Ltd (ASX: FPH) kept the sector's head above water.

The same couldn't be said for the Aussie energy portion of the market. Following a 1.7% decline in the price per barrel of Brent crude oil, oil and gas giant Woodside Energy Group Ltd (ASX: WDS) was left licking its wounds amid a 4.5% fall in its share price.

Though, not all hope was lost at the end of the session. A collection of ASX shares managed to fend off the fierce selling pressure on display today.
