The S&P/ASX 200 Index (ASX: XJO) spent a third consecutive day in the green on Thursday. The index closed 0.14% higher at 7,241.8 points.
Tech stocks led the way today, with the S&P/ASX 200 Information Technology Index (ASX: XIJ) gaining 1.2%. It followed a good session on Wall Street overnight.
The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index (NASDAQ: .IXIC) rose 1% on Wednesday while the Dow Jones Industrial Average Index (DJX: .DJI) lifted 0.3%, and the S&P 500 Index (SP: .INX) gained 0.6%.
Back home, the S&P/ASX 200 Materials Index (ASX: XMJ) also increased 0.9% on Thursday, led by gold stocks.
However, the S&P/ASX 200 Energy Index (ASX: XEJ) underperformed, falling 1.8% as coal shares tumbled.
