Today, the S&P/ASX 200 Index (ASX: XJO) was dragged lower by a dramatic 8% fall in the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (ASX: CBA) share price. This came after Australia's largest bank reported its first-quarter earnings update, which suggested some interest margin pressures. At the end of the day, the benchmark index finished 0.73% lower at 7,366.5 points.

While the majority of shares in the ASX 200 climbed higher today, it wasn't enough to make up for the losses in Australia's largest listed company. On a positive note, tech shares and utilities performed strongly with both sectors delivering a gain of 1% or more.

Looking at the top 200 listed companies, Uniti Group Ltd (ASX: UWL) was the biggest gainer today. Shares in the telecommunications company surged 8.03% higher following an update on its share buyback and operational performance. Find out more about Uniti Group here.
