The S&P/ASX 200 Index (Index: ^AXJO) (ASX: XJO) has finished the session 0.27% higher despite a weak lead from Wall Street overnight that saw the Dow Jones end down 0.94% and the S&P 500 fall 0.74%, due to concerns over conflict in the Ukraine.
The local bourse managed to shrug off these geopolitical concerns getting a boost thanks to positive economic developments including the Reserve Bank of Australia's decision to keep interest rates on hold at their record low of 2.5% and data showing the positive trend for building approvals continued in January.
Sectors were mixed with the energy and gold sectors leading the declines, while telecommunication services and financials led the gains.
