Best and worst stocks on the ASX at midday

The S&P / ASX 200 Index (Index: ^AXJO) (ASX: XJO) is flat on the last trading day of January, down 0.03%, despite rises on overseas markets overnight. The Dow Jones gained 0.7%, while the S&P 500 soared 1.1%, and the NASDAQ rocketed up 1.8%.

Here are the top five best performing stocks in the index today.

  • David Jones Limited (ASX: DJS) up 4% to $2.985
  • Qube Holdings Limited (ASX: QUB) gained 3.8% to $2.05
  • Twenty-First Century Fox Inc (ASX: FOX) rose 3.1% to $35.48
  • Sandfire Resources NL (ASX: SFR) added 3% to $5.76
  • Leighton Holdings Limited (ASX: LEI) is also up 3% to $16.47

These stocks are among the biggest losers.

  • Medusa Mining Limited (ASX: MML) dropped 7.4% to $2.01
  • Silver Lake Resources (ASX: SLR) down 2.9% to 60.2 cents
  • ALS Limited (ASX: ALQ) fell 2.3% to $8.01
  • Northern Star Resources Ltd (ASX: NST) slipped 2% to 88.7 cents
  • Limited (ASX: CRZ) is also down 2% at $9.02
