While I'm sure most readers will be very familiar with large cap resources shares such as BHP Billiton Limited (ASX: BHP) and Rio Tinto Limited (ASX: RIO), I'm betting that they will be less familiar with some of the up and coming stars of the sector.

Three small cap resources shares that I think are worth keeping a close eye on are listed below. Here's what makes them stand out:

Artemis Resources Ltd (ASX: ARV)

Artemis Resources is an exploration and development company with a focus on cobalt, gold, and copper through a range of assets in Karratha and its Mt Clement Paulsens project in Western Australia. I've been impressed with its exploration results and believe Artemis could be sitting on some lucrative assets. Another bonus is that the company owns the fully permitted 425,000tpa Radio Hill nickel and copper operations and processing plant located just 25km south of Karratha.

Eagle Mountain Mining Ltd (ASX: EM2)

Eagle Mountain Mining listed on the Australian share market at the end of last week and has seen its shares rocket 50% higher than its IPO price. Investors appear to be exciting by the potential of the company's exploration activities for copper and gold in the highly prospective Arizona gold region. Eagle Mountain's Silver Mountain project sits on the northwest-southeast Laramide Arc, which is a geological feature containing world-class porphyry copper mines.

Lepidico Ltd (ASX: LPD)

Lepidico is focused on the exploration, development, and production of lithium and last year welcomed Galaxy Resources Limited (ASX: GXY) as a major shareholder. One thing that sets Lepidico apart from its peers is that it owns the technology behind a metallurgical process that has successfully produced lithium carbonate from non-conventional sources. Management believes that the L-Max process has the potential to disrupt the lithium market by providing additional lithium supply from alternative sources.
