We Aussies like little more than a good underdog story. It's in our blood.

So when one of ours does better than some of theirs, we're fans. It explains in no small part why BHP Billiton Limited (ASX:BHP) is regarded so affectionately. But there's more to Australia than holes in the ground.

The list of winners is long and impressive: Flight Centre Travel Group Ltd (ASX:FLT), Cochlear Limited (ASX:COH), ResMed Inc. (CHESS) (ASX:RMD) and CSL Limited (ASX:CSL) are but a few of our great exports, besides Foster's (they never saw it coming) and Hoges.

But there's one company that has continued to do fantastically well here and overseas, but is still mostly under the radar. And, full disclosure, I own the shares, as does The Motley Fool.

The company is Corporate Travel Management Ltd (ASX:CTD), and it's a beauty.

Run by a founder-owner who cares — a lot — about the company's culture and success, CTM now has offices in Australia and New Zealand, as well as the USA, Asia the UK and mainland Europe. From a small operation in Brisbane, CTM is taking it to — and beating — the world.

And it's not done yet. The corporate travel market is specialised and hugely fragmented, and CTM brings systems, service and a sales culture that should continue to see the company succeed for years to come.

If you don't own it, why not? One reason might be it's (very reasonably!) low yield. If you're looking for income instead, you might want to have a look at this business, instead.

Motley Fool contributor Scott Phillips (TMFGilla) owns shares of Corporate Travel Management Ltd (ASX:CTD).
