The S&P/ASX 200 Index (ASX: XJO) is having a subdued finish to the week. In afternoon trade, the benchmark index is down 0.3% to 8,925.3 points.

Four ASX shares that are not letting that hold them back are listed below. Here's why they are rising:

Eden Innovations Ltd (ASX: EDE)

The Eden Innovations share price is up 22% to 22 cents. Investors have been buying the concrete admixture developer after it announced the EdenShield division. It is a new dedicated Defence, Military and Infrastructure division. Management advised that it has been created to commercialise the company's product suite across critical infrastructure and national security applications. This includes drones, data centres, bunkers, military bases, hospitals, and defence-related buildings. Eden Innovations' executive chair, Greg Solomon, said: "The establishment of EdenShield represents a significant strategic step for Eden as we position our technologies to address the rapidly growing global demand for defence capability and infrastructure resilience."

Elsight Ltd (ASX: ELS)

The Elsight share price is up almost 6% to $7.19. This may have been driven by a broker note out of Bell Potter this morning. This morning, the broker retained its buy rating on the shares of the supplier of communication modules to drone manufacturers with an improved price target of $8.00 (from $5.80). It said: "We retain Buy. We believe ELS has developed a market leading product that is leveraged to the proliferation of unmanned systems in both a defence and commercial context. We believe ELS shares offer relative value versus listed peers at 43x CY26e EV/EBIT given its recurring revenue, high ROIC business model and defensible niche."

Paladin Energy Ltd (ASX: PDN)

The Paladin Energy share price is up 3% to $14.57. This morning, this uranium producer released an update on its performance in FY 2026. It advised that its Langer Heinrich Mine (LHM) has achieved year-to-date FY 2026 production of 3.6Mlb U3O8. As a result, management now expects U3O8 production of 4.5Mlb to 4.8Mlb for the 12 months. This is up from its previous guidance range of 4Mlb to 4.4Mlb.

Zip Co Ltd (ASX: ZIP)

The Zip share price is up 16% to $2.38. Investors have been fighting to get hold of the buy now pay later provider's shares following the release of its third-quarter update. Zip reported record cash EBTDA of $65.1 million for the third quarter, which represents a 41.5% increase on the prior corresponding period. In light of its stronger than expected performance, management now expects group cash EBTDA of at least $260 million for the full year. This is up from its previous guidance of approximately $248.6 million.

Shares in Eden Innovations Ltd (ASX: EDE) have jumped by a third after the company said it was launching a division focused on the defence sector.

In a statement to the ASX on Friday, the company said the new EdenShield division would aim to commercialise the company's product suite across critical infrastructure and national security applications, including drones, data centres, bunkers, military bases, hospitals, and defence-related buildings.

High tech concrete a differentiator

This would involve using the company's EdenCrete range of concrete additives for ultra-high performance concrete, and carbon nanotube (CNT) infused high strength lightweight plastics, as well as a dual-fuel diesel system for cheaper backup power generation.

Eden said EdenCrete could provide enhanced blast resistance, durability, and thermal performance, which was ideal for military requirements.

The company also had a range of CNT-enriched products including concrete, paint, and other coatings which offered superior electromagnetic pulse and radio frequency shielding capabilities.

These products could be used for protecting aircraft, drones, ships, equipment, and infrastructure "from electromagnetic interference (EMI), high-altitude EMP (HEMP) events, and intentional electronic warfare attacks that could disrupt or disable critical systems''.

On the fuel front, the company said:

OptiBlend, Eden's long proven proprietary, dual-fuel technology extends backup power duration by up to 150%, by replacing up to 70% of the required diesel fuel with lower-cost natural gas, enhancing resilience of critical infrastructure such as military outposts, hospitals, and data centres. This dual-fuel technology solution used for 18 years offers significant benefits at a critical time for record-high fuel prices globally and has the potential to help mitigate spiralling fuel costs and add fuel versatility.

The company said the global aerospace and defence sectors were worth a combined US$900 billion currently, which was forecast to grow to more than US$2 trillion by 2034.

Key milestone

Eden Executive Chairman Greg Solomon said it was a pivotal turning point for the company.

The establishment of EdenShield represents a significant strategic step for Eden as we position our technologies to address the rapidly growing global demand for defence capability and infrastructure resilience. Our long-proven CNT-based solutions offer a significantly superior solution to the traditional products used in the construction and manufacturing of critical defence, military and infrastructure assets. Similarly, our dual fuel technology offers significant improvements to back-up power generation. The EdenShield launch comes at an opportune time for Eden to grow its market presence and offer increased protection and durability for these important industries critical to national security.

Eden shares were trading 6 cents higher at 24 cents, up 33.3%. The shares have been as low as 1.6 cents during the past 12 months.

The ASX small-cap company was valued at $104.1 million at the close of trade on Thursday.

In fact, the three small cap shares listed below have rocketed higher on Thursday. Here's why:

The Eden Innovations Ltd (ASX: EDE) share price has rocketed 22.5% higher to 8.7 cents after the clean energy company announced that another Department of Transportation (DoT) was using its EdenCrete admixture. According to the release, the Colorado DoT has used EdenCrete in a shotcrete concrete mix for the first time on the Central 70 project in Denver. The project involves the reconstruction of 10 miles of the I-70 Interstate Highway, including sinking part of the highway and the establishment of a park above it. Management believes this could open up further opportunities for its use in similar projects in the United States, South Korea, and here in Australia.

The iSentia Group Ltd (ASX: ISD) share price has stormed 30% higher to 28 cents on the day of its annual general meeting. While nothing major was announced at the event, investors appear to be relieved that management has held firm with its guidance for FY 2019. This year iSentia is expected to report revenue in the low to mid $120 millions range and EBITDA in the low to mid $20 millions range. This guidance range assumes that copyright costs in Australia remain stable during the financial year.

The SKY and Space Global Ltd (ASX: SAS) share price is up 7% to 6.1 cents. This morning the satellite company announced that it has signed binding memorandum of understanding (MoU) agreements with Brazilian internet and communications providers, Inovsat Telecom and AltaRede Corporation. The agreements will test how the company's proprietary connectivity network can be incorporated into Inovsat and AltaRede's offering in order to increase reliability and affordability. Management expects both MoU agreements to be transformed into definitive agreements with commercial terms following the launch of the first batch of its Pearls nanosatellites in 2019.

In afternoon trade the S&P/ASX 200 (Index: ^AXJO) (ASX: XJO) is on course to start to the week in disappointing fashion. At the time of writing the index is down 0.5% to 5,906.2 points.

Four shares that have fallen more than most today are listed below. Here's why they have started the week in the red:

The Biotron Limited (ASX: BIT) share price has fallen 8.5% to 26.5 cents despite there being no news out of the drugs development company. I suspect that some investors have been taking profit today after Biotron's shares rocketed higher over the last few weeks. At one stage its shares had gained over 1,000% in less than a month following the release of positive news relating to its lead drug candidate BIT225.

The Eden Innovations Ltd (ASX: EDE) share price is down 5% to 10 cents. Much like Biotron's shares, the clean energy company's shares have been on fire recently following positive company developments. This is likely to have left its shares vulnerable to profit taking from day traders during the market selloff today.

The Flight Centre Travel Group Ltd (ASX: FLT) share price has tumbled 10% to $46.16 following the release of its full year guidance ahead of its annual general meeting in Brisbane today. In FY 2019 management is targeting an underlying profit before tax between $390 million and $420 million. This would be between 1.3% and 9.2% higher than its FY 2018 profit before tax of $384.7 million. A weak performance from its Australian Leisure segment due to EBA negotiations and the disruption resulting from the ABC story are to blame for its slowing growth.

The WiseTech Global Ltd (ASX: WTC) share price has dropped 5% to $16.64 despite there being no news out of the logistics platform provider. WiseTech Global is just one of a number of Australian tech shares that have been sold off today following a disappointing end to the week on Wall Street's NASDAQ index.

The AVZ Minerals Ltd (ASX: AVZ) share price is up 5.5% to 9.5 cents after returning to trade on Friday. The lithium-focused mineral exploration company's shares returned to the ASX board following the release of drilling results from its Manono project in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. According to the release, those results have increased the company's knowledge of "the deposit along strike, both to the south-west and north-east of the central part of the main resource area." In light of this, management believes it is very likely that it will see an increase in resource tonnages and category at Roche Dure. As a result, it expects "this to lower the strip ratio over LOM and positively impact the project economics."

The Biotron Limited (ASX: BIT) share price has rebounded almost 6% higher to 27 cents on Friday. The drug development company's shares crashed 19% lower on Thursday after profit-taking weighed heavily on its performance. Biotron's shares have been on fire this month due to its promising work on the HIV-1 infection. Earlier in the week its shares were up over 1,000% in the space of just two weeks. While I think it is certainly one to watch, I wouldn't be in a rush to buy at these levels.

The Eden Innovations Ltd (ASX: EDE) share price has continued its strong run and is up 4.5% to 11.5 cents. The clean energy company's shares have been surging higher this month after its EdenCrete admixture won a Federal contract in the United States. In addition to this, yesterday an evaluation trial with the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority found that the use of EdenCrete would provide the Authority with significant savings by reducing both the life cycle cost and the frequency of maintenance. Investors appear to be betting that this will lead to more Federal contract wins.

While the Australian share market was fighting hard to carve out just the smallest of gains today, a number of speculative shares were rocketing higher with relative ease.

These three speculative shares are clearly in favour with investors right now, are they the real deal?

The Eden Innovations Ltd (ASX: EDE) share price finished the day 18% higher at 11 cents on Thursday. This latest gain means that the clean energy company's shares have now rallied an incredible 175% in the space of just four weeks. Investors have been buying its shares in a frenzy ever since the company won a US$525,000 Federal contract for its EdenCrete admixture product in the United States. The company followed this up with an announcement this morning advising that a joint evaluation trial with the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority found that the use of EdenCrete will provide the Authority with significant savings by reducing both the life cycle cost and the frequency of maintenance. While I do like the product and believe this trial could lead to further contract wins, I feel its $140 million valuation is getting excessive.

The Food Revolution Group Ltd (ASX: FOD) share price stormed 7.5% higher to 14.5 cents despite there being no news out of the juice company. This latest gain means that Food Revolution's shares have more than doubled in value in just over two months. The company recently announced a strategic investment and Chinese distribution deal with Careline Australia. The distribution deal aims to grow the company's sales from ~$35 million to up to $500 million within five years. While such lofty goals are often best taken with a pinch of salt, I do think its product range has a lot of promise. In fact, I'm a big fan of their drinks and regularly purchase its kombucha products from my local Wesfarmers Ltd (ASX: WES) operated Coles supermarket. I think it is well worth keeping a close eye on Food Revolution given its relatively low price to sales ratio.

The Jatenergy Ltd (ASX: JAT) share price rocketed 26% higher to 7.8 cents on Thursday. This means that the energy-cum-infant formula company's shares have doubled in value since this time last week. The catalyst for this gain was a surprising quarterly update which revealed a sudden surge in cash receipts. Jatenergy saw its cash receipts from sales increase from $320,000 in the June quarter to a massive $10.7 million in the September quarter. But another metric that also rocketed was its product manufacturing and operating costs. They increased to $15.4 million, leading to a net operating outflow of $5.5 million. While its sales growth looks impressive, I would approach this one with caution. Especially given its limited cash balance and sizeable cash outflows forecast.

In afternoon trade the S&P/ASX 200 (Index: ^AXJO) (ASX: XJO) has bounced back from its early declines and is just a fraction lower at 5,935.8 points.

Four shares that haven't let that hold them back today are listed below. Here's why they are pushing higher:

The Afterpay Touch Group Ltd (ASX: APT) share price has rebounded from yesterday selloff with a 14% rise to $12.93. This morning Afterpay Touch responded to media reports in relation to a proposed Australian Senate inquiry into parts of the finance sector. The fintech company welcomed the opportunity to participate in any industry review and advised that it is supportive of appropriate regulation.

The Eden Innovations Ltd (ASX: EDE) share price has zoomed 18% higher to 11 cents after the clean energy company announced the completion of a joint evaluation of its EdenCrete admixture with the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority. According to the release, the field trial at the Brady Mobility Facility in Atlanta has been a success. The Authority found that the use of EdenCrete will provide it with significant savings by reducing both the life cycle cost and the frequency of maintenance.

The Insurance Australia Group Ltd (ASX: IAG) share price has climbed 3% higher to $7.21 after being the subject of a positive broker note out of Credit Suisse. According to the note, the broker has upgraded the insurance company's shares to an outperform rating with a $7.90 price target. Credit Suisse is comfortable with the company's guidance for FY 2019 and believes a special dividend and share buyback is likely.

The Super Retail Group Ltd (ASX: SUL) share price has risen 2.5% to $9.34. Today's share price gain is likely to be attributable to a broker note out of Morgans. According to the note, the broker has upgraded the retailer's shares to an add rating from hold and increased the price target on its shares to $10.44. The broker is expecting Super Retail to deliver more solid growth in FY 2019, allowing it to pay down its debt significantly.

In afternoon trade the benchmark index is up 0.35% to 5,857.5 points.

Four shares that have failed to follow the market higher today are listed below. Here's why they are sinking lower.

The Cash Converters International Ltd (ASX: CCV) share price has tumbled 8% lower to 28.5 cents despite there being no news out of the retailer. This latest decline means that the struggling company's shares have now drifted to a new 52-week low. Investors have been heading to the exits in their droves since its CEO suddenly resigned following the release of its full year results in August.

The Eden Innovations Ltd (ASX: EDE) share price has plunged 22% lower to 9.4 cents. Although the clean energy company released a positive update on its EdenCrete admixture product, it wasn't enough to stop day traders from selling shares after some extreme share price gains in recent days. As I mentioned yesterday, I thought the buying was overdone and suspected that a selloff could have been imminent.

The Hutchison Telecommunications (Aus) Ltd (ASX: HTA) share price is down 12% to 11 cents. The telco sector was one of the better performing areas of the market on Monday but this hasn't been the case today with declines being seen across the sector. Incidentally, Telstra held its annual general meeting today and its shares gave back their early gains as the meeting went on.

The Praemium Ltd (ASX: PPS) share price has continued its decline and is down a further 5.5% to 85 cents. On Monday the fintech company released its latest quarterly funds under administration (FUA) update. In the first quarter of FY 2019 Praemium's FUA reached $8.6 billion, up 3.6% on the end of FY 2018. Investors may be concerned by the slowdown in its FUA growth. Annualised, this would mean growth of 14.4%, compared to 35% growth in FY 2018.

Four shares that have defied the market decline and pushed higher today are listed below. Here's why they have started the week with a bang:

The Biotron Limited (ASX: BIT) share price has rocketed 29.5% higher to 22 cents. While the drug development company announced the receipt of a $1.1 million R&D tax incentive refund this morning, I don't think that's the reason for the gain. Instead, I feel investors are likely to be still fighting to get hold of Biotron's shares due to its promising work on the HIV-1 infection. Its shares are now up over 1,000% in the space of just two weeks.

The Eden Innovations Ltd (ASX: EDE) share price has continued its strong run and is up a further 21% to 12 cents. The clean energy company's shares have been on fire since it won a small contract in the United States late last month for its EdenCrete admixture. While it was good news, I think the buying has been overdone. As a result, I would suggest investors approach this one with caution.

The Santos Ltd (ASX: STO) share price has pushed 2% higher to $7.03. This morning the energy company signed a binding agreement with Real Energy Corporation Limited (ASX: RLE) for gas processing at Moomba and gas transportation and tie-in at Mount Howitt. In addition to this, rising oil prices during Asian trade have been a boost to the Santos share price.

The Speedcast International Ltd (ASX: SDA) share price has climbed 5% to $3.94 despite there being no news out of the provider of remote communications and IT services. A number of beaten down telco companies have pushed higher today as investors look to escape the market volatility with value options. Speedcast International's shares have fallen heavily this year after a surprise downgrade.

Three small cap shares that haven't let that hold them back are listed below. Here's why they are on the rise:

The Bubs Australia Ltd (ASX: BUB) share price has stormed 14.5% higher to 51.5 cents despite there being no news out of the goats milk infant formula company. However, prior to today its shares had lost 40% of their value in just three months. This may mean that some investors think they have fallen into the bargain bin. Bubs' shares have fallen on the back of weak sales growth and concerns over a crackdown on the daigou industry. The company is due to release its first quarter update in the next couple of weeks, so I would suggest investors wait for that before considering it as an investment.

The Eden Innovations Ltd (ASX: EDE) share price has continued its remarkable run and is up a further 19% to 9.9 cents. The strong share price rise has now added around $80 million to the clean energy company's market capitalisation over the last couple of weeks following the announcement of a contract worth US$525,000 in revenue. That contract will see its EdenCrete admixture product used to replace numerous sections of concrete pavement along 11 miles of the Interstate Highway I-16 in the United States. I think this share price rise is utter madness, especially considering management's response to its ASX price query. It stated that "in excess of 50% of the daily trading volume during the past week has been by day traders (who are buying and selling shares on the same day), and which transactions do not even appear on the net daily changes on the Company's share register." This doesn't fill me with confidence that its shares are going to hold onto these gains.

The LiveTiles Ltd (ASX: LVT) share price is up almost 4.5% to 47.5 cents after the software company released its quarterly update. According to the release, LiveTiles saw its annualised recurring revenues reach $18.6 million by the end of the quarter, representing annual growth of 272% and quarter-on-quarter growth of 24%. Management advised that the appointment of N3 as its sales and marketing force has been a key driver of growth. The N3 team has been generating high and consistent volumes of leads and sales opportunities across the United States, leading to several new customers being secured from the channel during the quarter.

Three small cap shares that have caught the eye with notable gains today are listed below. Here's why they are on the rise:

The Eden Innovations Ltd (ASX: EDE) share price has rocketed 31% higher to 9.3 cents. Its shares have been on fire in October after announcing its first Federal funded highway repair project in the United States. The contract will see the company's EdenCrete admixture product used to replace numerous sections of concrete pavement along 11 miles of the Interstate Highway I-16 in Twiggs County. Management estimates that the contract is worth US$525,000 in revenue. Considering how much its shares have now climbed, I suspect that investors are betting on this being the first of many contract wins.

The iSentia Group Ltd (ASX: ISD) share price has climbed over 3% to 33.5 cents despite there being no news out of the media monitoring company. But with its shares down a massive 81% over the last 12 months and hovering just above a 52-week low, I wouldn't be surprised if bargain hunters are swooping in. While its shares do look cheap, I'm not convinced that iSentia is over the worst of its problems and would suggest investors stay clear of the company until its performance improves.

The Telix Pharmaceuticals Ltd (ASX: TLX) share price has pushed over 3% higher to 79.5 cents after the clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company announced a strategic collaboration agreement with the largest private provider of oncology services in Australia and Europe, GenesisCare. The agreement covers three major collaboration areas. These include the establishment of a preferred clinical provider relationship for running radiation oncology studies in Australia, a partnership to deliver compassionate use access to Telix's glioblastoma therapy program across its extensive patient network, and the joint exploration of the commercial potential of Telix's products in China. I think Telix is one to watch.

Three small cap shares that have caught the eye today are listed below. Here's why they are on the rise:

The Eden Innovations Ltd (ASX: EDE) share price has continued its remarkable run and is up a further 11.5% to 7.7 cents. The concrete manufacturer's shares have nearly doubled in value in the space of a week following the release of a positive announcement. That announcement related to its first Federal funded highway repair project in Georgia, United States. The US$525,000 contract will see the company's EdenCrete product used to replace numerous sections of concrete pavement along 11 miles of the Interstate Highway I-16 in Twiggs County. Given the small size of the contract, I'm very surprised by how much its shares have appreciated in such a short space of time. I wouldn't be surprised to see them fall significantly in the coming days from profit taking.

The Family Zone Cyber Safety Ltd (ASX: FZO) share price has climbed 3.5% to 43 cents after the cyber safety company provided an update on its subscriber growth. According to the release, the company now has over 31,000 wholesale paying accounts following its launch into the retail channels of Indonesian telco company Telkomsel. In addition to this, Family Zone's retail paying accounts have grown 260% year-on-year to above 50,000.

The Netcomm Wireless Ltd (ASX: NTC) share price has surged 7.5% to 78 cents despite there being no news out of the broadband equipment manufacturer. But considering its shares had lost almost half of their value in the space of just six weeks prior to today, I wouldn't be surprised if bargain hunters were swooping in. Netcomm's shares were crushed in August after management warned that it expects flat underlying EBITDA in FY 2019 due to lower margins as its sales mix changes shifts to lower margin products and component costs increase.

At the time of writing the benchmark index is up 0.3% to 6,143.2 points.

Four shares that are climbing more than most today are listed below. Here's why they have surged higher:

The Bionomics Ltd (ASX: BNO) share price is up 3% to 17.5 cents. At one stage in morning trade the biopharmaceutical company's shares had rebounded from yesterday horror showing with a sizeable 26% gain. Bionomics' shares fell 69% on Tuesday after revealing disappointing results from the phase 2 clinical trial of its BNC210 novel drug candidate in patients with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The trial did not meet its primary endpoint of a decrease in PTSD symptoms as measured by Clinician-Administered PTSD Scale (CAPS-5) at 12 weeks.

The Eden Innovations Ltd (ASX: EDE) share price has rocketed a massive 40% to 7.7 cents. The concrete manufacturer's shares have been on fire this week after it advised of its first Federal funded highway repair project in Georgia, United States. The company's EdenCrete product will be used to replace numerous sections of concrete pavement along 11 miles of the Interstate Highway I-16 in Twiggs County. While this is positive news, it is worth noting that management estimates that the job will be worth US$525,000. Whereas around $60 million has been added to its market capitalisation since the announcement.

The Global Construction Services Limited (ASX: GCS) share price has risen 5% to 75.7 cents. This morning Global Construction Services, also known as SRG Global, announced that it has been awarded a four year contract by Woodside Petroleum Limited (ASX: WPL) as operator of the North West Shelf gas project.

The St Barbara Ltd (ASX: SBM) share price has surged 7% to $3.61. St Barbara is just one of a number of gold miners racing higher today after the gold price stormed higher overnight. The spot gold price rose 1.6% to US$1,208 an ounce after political events in Italy rattled global markets.

Three small cap shares making solid gains today are listed below. Here's why they are on the rise:

The Biotron Limited (ASX: BIT) share price has continued its remarkable run and is up a further 47% to 9.1 cents. This latest gain means the drug developer's shares have risen around 350% since Thursday of last week. The catalyst for this rise was a successful outcome for the BIT225- 009 Phase 2 trial of its lead drug BIT225 in HIV-infected patients in combination with current antiretroviral drugs. According to the release, the data demonstrated that there are significant immunological benefits in patients receiving antiretroviral drugs with 200 mg BIT225 compared to antiretroviral drugs plus placebo. The company aims to present detailed data at scientific conferences and to potential commercial partners in late 2018 or early 2019.

The Eden Innovations Ltd (ASX: EDE) share price has jumped 12% to 5.6 cents. Last week the concrete manufacturer's shares rocketed higher after it advised of its first Federal funded highway repair project in Georgia, United States. The company's EdenCrete product will be used to replace numerous sections of concrete pavement along 11 miles of the Interstate Highway I-16 in Twiggs County. Management estimates that the job will be worth US$525,000, making it the largest individual contract for EdenCrete to date.

The iSignthis Ltd (ASX: ISX) share price has risen 3.5% to 15 cents. This morning the RegTech company announced that it has entered into a card not present/online agreement with Union Pay International to act as a card acquirer of China Union Pay issued cards. Management has advised that it is required to complete full membership requirements, including technical integration and certification, before offering the service to merchants. It expects that certification and the availability of the service to Australian merchants will be by end of first quarter 2019. Card acquiring involves the movement of money within a financial network of interconnected payment services.

In afternoon trade the S&P/ASX 200 (Index: ^AXJO) (ASX: XJO) is on course for another day in red. At the time of writing the benchmark index is down 0.1% to 6,181.7 points.

Four shares that have fallen more than most today are listed below. Here's why they are sinking lower:

The Beadell Resources Ltd (ASX: BDR) share price has dropped almost 6% to 6.5 cents. On Monday the gold miner's shares surged 21% higher after it announced that it has entered into a scheme implementation deed with US-listed peer Great Panther Silver. Under the terms of the Scheme, Beadell shareholders are to receive 0.0619 common shares of Great Panther for each ordinary share of Beadell. Great Panther shareholders didn't respond positively to the news and its share price sold off heavily overnight. It finished 10% lower at the close, making the offer less attractive to Beadell shareholders.

The Eden Innovations Ltd (ASX: EDE) share price is down over 6% to 4.5 cents. Eden Innovations' shares were on fire on Monday and appear to have come under pressure from profit taking today. Its shares rocketed higher after it advised of the first Federal funded highway repair project in the United States to use its EdenCrete product. Management estimates that the job will be worth US$525,000, making it the largest individual contract for EdenCrete to date.

The St Barbara Ltd (ASX: SBM) share price has fallen 4.5% to $3.32. This latest decline means that the gold miner has now lost 20% of its value since this time last month. Investors appear to have been disappointed with its guidance for the year ahead and a weakening gold price.

The Webjet Limited (ASX: WEB) share price has dropped 6% lower to $15.57 despite there being no news out of the online travel agent. However, the majority of Australia's leading travel shares have tumbled lower today after oil prices surged higher overnight. There may be concerns that increasing fuel costs will hurt consumer confidence and lead to a sharp increase in airfare tickets. While the former could be a problem, I see the latter as a positive for Webjet.

In fact, the three small cap shares listed below have been on top form. Here's why they are on the rise on Monday:

The Capricorn Metals Ltd (ASX: CMM) share price has rocketed 51% to 8.9 cents after leading gold producer Regis Resources Limited (ASX: RRL) confirmed that it has put forward a confidential, indicative, and incomplete proposal to acquire the gold developer. The indicative proposal contemplates an offer of 11.4 cents in Regis shares per Capricorn share, a premium of 93.2% to the closing Capricorn share price on Friday. Regis shareholders don't appear to see a lot of value in the acquisition. Its shares are down over 7% this afternoon on the back of this news.

The Eden Innovations Ltd (ASX: EDE) share price has surged over 31% higher to 4.6 cents after the concrete manufacturer advised of its first Federal funded highway repair project in Georgia, United States. The company's EdenCrete product will be used to replace numerous sections of concrete pavement along 11 miles of the Interstate Highway I-16 in Twiggs County. Management estimates that the job will be worth US$525,000, making it the largest individual contract for EdenCrete to date.

The Volpara Health Technologies Ltd (ASX: VHT) share price has pushed over 6% higher to 93 cents after the health technology company advised that it has received a new FDA 510(k) clearance for technologies used in Volpara Enterprise software and the Volpara Density clinical application. As a result, the company can now introduce its Volpara Live! System. This system is the first real-time decision support product for mammography designed to use quality control feedback to improve breast care for women whilst improving the financial performance of breast imaging clinics. I think Volpara is well worth a closer look if you're not familiar with it.

In afternoon trade the S&P/ASX 200 (Index: ^AXJO) (ASX: XJO) is on course to finish a tough week on a high. At the time of writing the benchmark index is up 0.6% to 6,167.6 points.

Four shares that have failed to follow the market higher today are listed below. Here's why they are ending the week in the red:

The Argosy Minerals Limited (ASX: AGY) share price is down 5.5% to 25.5 cents. On Thursday the lithium company's shares rocketed higher after it advised that a successful and scalable chemical process solution to produce battery quality lithium carbonate product had been achieved. This means the company will soon send samples to its preferred off-take party before looking to finalise the preliminary off-take agreement for Stage 1 product. Today's decline appears to be a case of profit taking from some investors.

The Australian Mines Limited (ASX: AUZ) share price has fallen 4% to 4.7 cents despite releasing positive drilling results from the Greenvale nickel, cobalt, and scandium deposit at its Sconi project in Queensland. Although the results demonstrated the potential for its mineral resource to be extended in multiple mineralised zones, it seems some investors were expecting stronger results.

The Avjennings Ltd (ASX: AVJ) share price has dropped almost 5% to 69 cents. This morning the shares of the land development, integrated housing and apartment development, and home improvements company went ex-dividend for its fully franked 3 cents per share final dividend. This will be paid to eligible shareholders on October 11.

The Eden Innovations Ltd (ASX: EDE) share price has tumbled 5% to 3.9 cents. Like Argosy Minerals, I suspect that today's decline is down to profit taking after its shares rallied notably higher on Thursday. Eden Innovations' shares jumped after it appointed Parchem as its exclusive ANZ distributor of its EdenCrete product. Parchem is a leading manufacturer and supplier of products and equipment to the Australian and New Zealand concrete and construction markets.

In afternoon trade the market is on course for another day in the red.

Fortunately, not all shares are in the red today. In fact, these three small cap shares have surged notably higher despite the market sinking lower. Here's why they are on the rise:

The Bailador Technology Investments Ltd (ASX: BTI) share price has risen 4% to 89.5 cents after the growth capital fund focused on the information technology sector announced an upgrade to its net tangible assets. Bailador increased its pre-tax NTA per share to $1.15 thanks to an increase in the value of its holding in Canberra-based Instaclustr. The provider of an open source data platform for cloud-based solutions that require immense scale recently raised US$15.7 million in a round led by New York-based growth equity fund Level Equity.

The Eden Innovations Ltd (ASX: EDE) share price has rocketed 14% higher to 4.1 cents after it appointed Parchem as its exclusive ANZ distributor of its EdenCrete product. Parchem is a leading manufacturer and supplier of products and equipment to the Australian & New Zealand concrete and construction markets and arguably a great fit for Eden Innovations. However, I feel it may be a little soon to get excited and investors ought to wait to see how this impacts its sales before making a move.

The Food Revolution Group Ltd (ASX: FOD) share price has surged 26.5% higher to 11 cents after providing an update on a sell down by the Victoria Clean Technology Fund (VCTF). According to the release, the orderly sell down has been cornerstoned by Perpetual Limited (ASX: PPT) and multi award-winning boutique fund manager SG Hiscock. VCTF provides financial and management support for early stage ventures with the view to promote jobs and economic growth in Victoria. It sold down its stake in the food processing company so that it could allocate funds to early stage ventures which required seed capital.

In afternoon trade the benchmark index is up almost 0.2% to 6,282.7 points.

Four shares climbing more than most today are listed below. Here's why they have started the week on a high:

The Eden Innovations Ltd (ASX: EDE) share price has rocketed 21.5% higher to 6.8 cents after the concrete additive company announced an agreement with leading South Korean precast concrete manufacturer KC Industry to develop EdenCrete-enriched concrete mix designs for use in the Korean market. This announcement supersedes a memorandum of understand previously signed between the two parties.

The Elders Ltd (ASX: ELD) share price has bounced back from last Friday's heavy decline and is up 3.5% to $7.30. The agribusiness company's shares fell sharply last week after providing the market with an underwhelming seasonal update. Bell Potter appears to think the selloff is a buying opportunity and has upgraded Elders' shares this morning.

The Fastbrick Robotics Ltd (ASX: FBR) share price has risen over 6% to 17 cents despite there being no news out of the robotics company. However, last week Fastbrick Robotics announced the extension of its memorandum of understanding with global machinery giant Caterpillar until January 31. This will allow the company time to demonstrate its technology to Caterpillar in line with the original intentions of the agreement and its current development schedule.

The iSentia Group Ltd (ASX: ISD) share price has pushed a further 5% higher to 82.5 cents. Last week the embattled media monitoring company's shares rocketed higher after it announced a new CEO and reaffirmed its full-year EBITDA guidance. Although its guidance of $32 million to $36 million will be a sizeable decline on FY 2017, investors appear relieved that things have not got worse since its half-year results release.

Although the market has climbed higher today, not all shares have been able to follow suit.

In fact, three shares have just drifted to 52-week lows. Here's why they are printing new lows today:

The Eden Innovations Ltd (ASX: EDE) share price tumbled to a 52-week low of 11 cents this morning. Although the clean energy company's EdenCrete admixture has a lot of promise, investors appear to be frustrated at how slow sales are growing. This year management is targeting sales of US$6 million, which some investors appear to believe isn't enough to justify a market cap of approximately $150 million. I think Eden Innovations is worth keeping on your watchlist, but I would resist an investment until it grows into its current valuation.

The MSM Corporation International Ltd (ASX: MSM) share price has crashed 16% lower to a new low of 9.2 cents in morning trade. In October the online entertainment company's shares reached as high as 34 cents following the launch of it mobile-first talent competition. The competition doesn't appear to have captured the level of attention that many investors were expecting. The app has achieved 428,000 installs worldwide according to a recent update. I think MSM is probably one to avoid in 2018.

The Ramelius Resources Limited (ASX: RMS) share price has hit a new 52-week low of 32.5 cents on Wednesday. Although the gold miners as a whole have tumbled lower as a result of further declines in the gold price, Ramelius has fallen more than most due to its weakening margins. As of its most recent update, management advised that its all-in sustaining cost is expected to rise to US$1,000 an ounce in the December quarter. Just over a year ago Ramelius was pulling gold out of the ground for less than US$700 an ounce. I would stay away from Ramelius and the gold miners at this point due to rising rates and widening bond yields in the United States.
