What else do investors need to know?
Goodman's Tsukuba Tech Central project is designed for cutting-edge AI and cloud workloads, with energy performance exceeding Japan's latest efficiency standards. Cooling uses industrial water, not local groundwater, and all plant sits within acoustically enclosed structures to minimise noise and local impact.
The company is also investing in community amenities, including a disaster-prevention hub and a 45,000-square-metre public area with cafes, shops, and green spaces for local residents. This follows Goodman's commitment to supporting the Tsukuba City community as both an employer and investor.
What did Goodman Group management say?
Paul McGarry, Head of Asia, Goodman, commented:
The campus is a long-term investment in Tsukuba City. Construction runs in stages, using local contractors and specialist trades, and each phase will add permanent skilled roles in operations, engineering, maintenance and security. Goodman procures materials and services locally, and the amenity area is designed to create a vibrant community hub for residents and visitors.
This is similar to theGreen, where the public amenity and open spaces coexist alongside ten logistics and data centre buildings at Goodman Business Park in Inzai, Chiba. The substantial investment by Goodman to create the amenity and disaster-prevention facilities at Tsukuba Tech Central reflects our long-term commitment to the local community.
What's next for Goodman Group?
Goodman is in advanced talks to lease further phases of the Tsukuba Tech Central campus, aiming to capture growing demand for data centres close to major Asian population hubs. Expansion in Japan and across Asia remains core to Goodman's strategy, leveraging decades of local experience and a strong presence in the region.
The company is continuing to work with utilities and customers to enable renewable electricity supplies for the new campus. Its existing platform spans over 300 MW of operational data centre projects in Japan and further development across Asia.
