Australia's S&P/ASX 200 (Index: ^AXJO)(ASX: XJO) and ALL ORDINARIES (Index: ^AXAO) (ASX: XAO) indices finished higher on Tuesday.

Here's a short recap of the Australian market:

  • S&P/ASX 200 (Index: ^AXJO) (ASX: XJO) higher 0.42% to 5,575.90
  • ALL ORDINARIES (Index: ^AXAO) (ASX: XAO) higher 0.42% to 5,651.20
  • AUD/USD at US 72 cents
  • Gold at US$1,245.00 an ounce
  • Brent Oil at US$60.00 a barrel

The best-performing ASX 200 share today was coal miner New Hope Corporation Limited (ASX: NHC), its share price rose nearly 8%.

The share price of TPG Telecom Ltd (ASX: TPM) rose by 5.7% today thanks for a couple of useful pieces of news for telco shareholders.

QBE Insurance Group Ltd (ASX: QBE) shares fell 4.1% after outlining its plans for 2019 in a trading update, along with a cost cutting program.

The Cimic Group Ltd (ASX: CIM) share price finished 4.7% higher after UGL and CPB Contractors were picked by Taswater for a capital works program.

Sydney Airport Holdings Ltd (ASX: SYD) shares rose by 0.9%, it announced what its upcoming payment to shareholders will be.

Shares of Oil Search Limited (ASX: OSH) dropped 1.1% today despite revealing it has secured US$300 million of new credit facilities.

The worst ASX 200 performer today was Sigma Healthcare Ltd (ASX: SIG) which fell by 6.9%.

Finally, the Saracen Mineral Holdings Limited (ASX: SAR) share price rose by 4.9%, marking another good day for the rising gold miner.
