The S&P/ASX 200 (Index: ^AXJO) (ASX: XJO) looks set to have a fantastic finish to the week. In early afternoon trade the index is up 0.7% to 5,704 points.

Four shares which have made notably strong gains today and are finishing the week in style are as follows:

Aconex Ltd (ASX: ACX) shares are up 6% to $3.50 despite there being no news out of the software-as-a-service company. With its shares down almost 40% in the last couple of weeks, it looks as though bargain hunters may have stepped in this morning. For long-term buy and hold investors I think the current price is great value.

Galaxy Resources Limited (ASX: GXY) shares have surged higher by 6% to 58.2 cents after the lithium miner provided a positive update on its Mt Cattlin operations. I believe that Galaxy Resources is one of the best options available to investors in the resources sector. Especially with demand for lithium expected to remain strong thanks to its use in electric vehicles and smart phones.

Netcomm Wireless Ltd (ASX: NTC) shares have jumped 8.5% to $1.85 after the wireless internet provider announced that the NBN has placed its first order with the company. The order is subject to testing and expected to be worth around $28 million in revenue. NetComm could be positioned for growth thanks to the NBN rollout, but its shares are a little on the expensive side.

Sims Metal Management Ltd (ASX: SGM) shares have climbed 6% to $11.85 despite there being no news out of the metals and electronics recycler. Today's gain is likely to be attributable to a research note out of Citi which reveals its analysts have upgraded its shares from neutral to a buy rating. According to the release Citi expect an earnings surprise when its announces its interim report.
