Best and worst stocks on the ASX today

The S&P / ASX 200 Index (Index: ^AXJO) (ASX: XJO) has soared 0.9% to 5,335.9, breaking a four-day losing streak. Overnight, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed above 16,000 for the first time in history, on the back of better than expected unemployment figures.

Here are the top five best performing stocks in the index today.

These stocks were the losers on the day.

  • Evolution Mining (ASX: EVN) lost 4.5% to 64 cents
  • Sundance Resources (ASX: SDL) fell 4.2% to 11.5 cents
  • Goodman Fielder (ASX: GFF) slipped 4.1% to 70.5 cents
  • St Barbara (ASX: SBM) dropped 3.4% to 28.5 cents
  • Perseus Mining (ASX: PRU) closed down 3.3% at 29 cents
