ASX ETF investing is becoming increasingly thematic.

Investors use ASX ETFs to track indexes like the S&P/ASX 200 Index (ASX: XJO) or S&P 500 Index (SP: .INX).

However, ETF providers continue to aim to capture themes and sectors through more niche-designed funds.

VanEck has announced it will launch three new thematic ASX ETFs on 6 August.

VanEck Global Semiconductor ETF (ASX: SMHG)

The first fund from VanEck aims to provide ASX investors with a targeted investment in those companies benefiting from the rise of AI, cloud computing, electrification and automation which is driving demand for ever more powerful and energy-efficient chips.

According to VanEck, semiconductors, the crucial components driving artificial intelligence (AI), electric cars and cloud computing, are becoming increasingly valuable in this digital age.

Rather than attempting to pick individual winners in this ever-evolving sector, the VanEck Global Semiconductor ETF provides exposure to the top global semiconductor companies, spanning the entire industry value chain from chip design manufacturers to equipment firms.

The VanEck Global Semiconductor ETF includes companies from around the globe and invests across the value chain.

VanEck Rare Earth and Strategic Metals ex China ETF (ASX: RESM)

The second new fund from VanEck provides targeted exposure to the companies mining and refining the metals. According to VanEck, these underpin some of the most consequential megatrends of our time.

Rare earth and strategic metals have been increasingly used in high tech applications linked to AI, defence or the transition to a low carbon world among others. These uses have pushed demand for many of these metals higher in recent years and current trends indicate that demand may only increase.

RESM provides diversified exposure across companies involved in the mining, refining and recycling of rare earths and strategic metals.

The fund focuses on businesses that derive at least 50% of their revenue from these activities, providing targeted exposure to the parts of the value chain most directly leveraged to meet growing demand.

VanEck Quantum ETF (ASX: QNTM)

This fund is designed to give investors a targeted way to access companies involved in quantum computing.

While people today want faster processors, more RAM, and higher GHz, quantum computing doesn't give you a quicker binary computer; it gives you a machine that solves problems through superposition and entanglement in ways a binary computer fundamentally cannot, no matter how fast you clock it.

VanEck said more information on this fund will be available when the fund launches.
