Advertising is a key part of the business world, it's important to get your message and products out there to your audience.

Google and Facebook are taking huge swathes of advertising budgets in this modern world. There are ways to get exposure to these businesses on the ASX through BETANASDAQ ETF UNITS (ASX: NDQ) and other indexes. However, there are other advertising options on the ASX:

APN Outdoor Group Ltd (ASX: APO)

APN Outdoor is one of the largest outdoor advertisers in Australia.

TV and printed media may be losing advertising revenue but outdoor advertisers have a lot of potential. Changing static boards to digital boards gives APN the ability to freshen up its offering and attract more pairs of eyes.

APN had 103 'elite screens' with 16 added in the six months to 30 June 2017. It expects to add a further 24 screens in the next six months.

It's currently trading at 17x FY16's earnings with a fully franked dividend yield of 5.71%.

WPP Aunz Ltd (ASX: WPP)

WPP is based in the UK and it's one of the largest advertising businesses in the world. WPP Aunz is an ASX-listed group of 80 marketing communications services companies.

Businesses need all the help they can to get their message across and using WPP Aunz's services makes sense and I can see why the business has a lot of appeal in the local market.

WPP Aunz is currently trading at 10x FY18's estimated earnings with a grossed-up dividend yield of 7.97%.

Foolish takeaway

Both businesses offer an intriguing investment case and I think APN Outdoor could be a genuine market-beater in time.
