About Auckland International Airport Ltd

Auckland International Airport Limited (ASX: AIA) is one of the largest listed companies in New Zealand. The airport first opened in 1966 and during the 1990s underwent a $180 million redevelopment project. The project saw Auckland International Airport nearly double in size and it is now the third busiest international airport in Australasia.

Prior to the pandemic, the airport saw around 20 million passengers pass through its gates in a twelve-month period. It also handles around $15 billion worth of freight each year. Auckland International Airport supports around 15,000 jobs in more than 100 businesses in around its facilities. The airport is presently part way through implementing its 30-year vision to become the “airport of the future”.

Auckland Airport first listed on the ASX in 1999. It is also dual listed on the New Zealand Stock Exchange (NZX). Being in the tourism sector, the Auckland International Airport share price was devastated by COVID-19 lockdowns. Its shares fell from a pre-pandemic high of $8.90 in February to $4.50 on 23 March 2020. As at October 2020, the Auckland International Airport share price has only partially recovered from this low.
