The All Ordinaries Index (ASX: XAO) is up a slender 0.2% since last Friday's close despite some very heavy lifting from this ASX All Ords stock.

Shares in the boron and lithium miner closed on Friday trading for 16.5 cents apiece. At time of writing in afternoon trade on Wednesday, less than three full trading days later, shares are swapping hands for 31 cents apiece.

That puts this ASX All Ords stock up an eye-popping 87.9% so far this week.

Any guesses?

If you said 5E Advanced Materials Inc (ASX: 5EA), give yourself a virtual gold star.

Here's what's been spurring investor interest.

What's sending the ASX All Ords stock rocketing?

The 5E Advanced Materials share price gained 6.6% on Monday after the miner released an operational update, marked as non-price sensitive.

Shares closed up another 28.6% yesterday and the All Ords stock is rocketing 37.8% higher today.

The mining operations update involves the company's 5E Boron Americas Complex, for which it has a United States government Critical Infrastructure designation. And investor enthusiasm appears to have been piqued as the project moves closer to initial production.

Among recent progress, 5E Advanced Materials commenced mining operations last month.

The company said all four of its production wells to extract boric acid and lithium have been successfully running. Initial head grade and recovery rates were reported to be in line with historical expectations, with the wells continuing to be conditioned to achieve their final operational profile.

With final electrical engineering work at the facility now nearly completed, management expects to begin operating the plant commercially in the second quarter of 2024. If this occurs to plan, that could offer ongoing support for the ASX All Ords stock.

"This is an exciting time for all stakeholders of the company as we finalise a number of initiatives that will see us commence initial production next quarter," 5E Advanced Materials CEO Susan Brennan said.

Brennan added:

Our operations team is working diligently to transition our facility to operational status, and we are concurrently ramping up our commercial and marketing activities in order to leverage the value of our boron and lithium with potential customers.

I cannot emphasise enough the importance 5E will represent in the US in the coming months as a new and secure producer of critical materials needed for clean energy economies.

5E Advanced Materials share price snapshot

Despite the 88% boost to the 5E Materials share price this week, the ASX All Ords stock has a way to go before recouping the past months of losses.

Shares remain down 70% over 12 months.

At the time of writing, the benchmark index is down 1% to 7,551.4 points.

Four ASX shares that are not letting that hold them back today are listed below. Here's why they are rising:

5E Advanced Materials Inc (ASX: 5EA)

The 5E Advanced Materials share price is up 9% to 24.5 cents. This morning, this US-based boron and lithium company announced that it has officially begun mining operations at its 5E Boron Americas Complex with the start-up of the wellfield injection process.

Endeavour Group Ltd (ASX: EDV)

The Endeavour share price is up 3% to $5.39. Investors have been buying this drinks giant's shares after it announced the exit of its chairman, Peter Hearl. The BWS and Dan Murphy's owner's chair had been under pressure from activist shareholders to quit. He will step down following an orderly transition and once its new chair, Ari Mervis, obtains all necessary regulatory approvals.

Strike Energy Ltd (ASX: STX)

The Strike Energy share price is up 2% to 48.5 cents. This morning, Strike and Alinta Energy entered into a firm 100% take or pay gas sales agreement for a total of 3.4 PJ delivered into the Parmelia Gas Pipeline over two years starting in February 2024.

Suncorp Group Ltd (ASX: SUN)

The Suncorp share price is up 1% to $13.88. This appears to have been driven by the release of an update in relation to ongoing weather events across Australia. As of last night, approximately 19,000 claims have been received from customers impacted by the weather events. However, Suncorp expects to be within its natural hazard allowance of $680 million for the half year to December 2023.

Four ASX shares that are falling more than most today are listed below. Here's why they are dropping:

5E Advanced Materials Inc (ASX: 5EA)

The 5E Advanced Materials share price has continued its slide and is down a further 18% to $1.67. Investors have been selling this minerals exploration and production company's shares since the release of its results and the announcement of the surprise exit of its CEO last week.

Appen Ltd (ASX: APX)

The Appen share price is down 2% to $3.06. Appen's shares have come under pressure over the last couple of trading sessions due to concerns over demand for its services. This follows a disappointing update out of one of its biggest customers, Meta.

Core Lithium Ltd (ASX: CXO)

The Core Lithium share price is down 6% to $1.04. Investors have been selling this lithium miner's shares after it completed its institutional placement. Core Lithium has raised $100 million before costs at a discount of $1.03 per new share. In other news, the company revealed that it has sold 15,000 dry metric tonnes (dmt) of spodumene via a digital auction. Demand for the spodumene DSO material was strong, which led to Core Lithium commanding a sale price of US$951/dmt.

Infomedia Limited (ASX: IFM)

The Infomedia share price is down 6% to $1.10. This morning the auto industry software provider revealed that it has not received binding takeover offers from Solera Holdings or a consortium comprising TA Associates and Viburnum Funds by its deadline. As a result, it has closed the virtual data room to Solera and the consortium and requested that they destroy or return all confidential information.

Six ASX mining shares were listed on the S&P/ASX 300 Index (ASX: XKO) today as part of S&P Global's quarterly rebalancing.

This may surprise some investors as the S&P/ASX 200 Materials Index (ASX: XMJ), which tracks the mining sector, hasn't exactly had a stellar performance year to date. In fact, it's down 9.95%.

On an industry level, things aren't too hot either with the S&P/ASX 300 Metals and Mining Index (ASX: XMM) also down 7.72% over the same period.

So these companies are outliers from the aggregate performance of their peers. They were included due to a surge in their share prices over the last quarter which, in turn, boosted their market capitalisations high enough to overtake laggards in the index.

This was helped by the relatively poor performance of shares in other sectors, such as information technology and consumer discretionary. These have been two of the worst hit on a year-to-date basis. It's also helped companies from stronger sectors over the last quarter to take their positions in the index.

Let's find out which miners are new to the ASX 300.

Which mining companies were added to the index?

The boron and lithium explorer's share price is leaping 9.78% on news it will soon join the S&P/ASX 300 Index (ASX: XKO).

The 5E Advanced Materials share price is trading at $2.47 on the back of the news, after earlier touching 14.2% higher than its previous close at $2.57.

For comparison, the ASX 300 is lifting 0.23% right now.

Let's take a closer look at the news driving the mineral explorer's stock higher on Monday.

5E Advanced Materials share price surges on ASX 300 inclusion

The 5E Advanced Materials share price is soaring higher after it was revealed the company will soon be recognised as one of the ASX's 300 largest companies.

Its inclusion means funds tracking the ASX 300 will have to snap up the stock before the market opens on 19 September to continue mirroring the index.

That will likely increase demand for 5E Advanced Materials' shares and, therefore, their value.

The company's president and CEO, Henri Tausch, commented on other benefits the change could bring, saying:

This inclusion places us in the company of the largest 300 securities on the ASX, which will increase our exposure to investors and potentially, liquidity in our stock with incremental buy demand.

News the mineral explorer will be added to the index was released after market close on Friday.

It's one of many mining shares entering the ASX 300 this month. Others include Argosy Minerals Limited (ASX: AGY), Arafura Resources Limited (ASX: ARU), and Grange Resources Limited (ASX: GRR).

It's been a rocky year so far for the 5E Advanced Materials share price. It floated on the ASX in March and hit the NASDAQ later that same month. It has slumped 13% since its first close on the ASX.

The All Ordinaries Index (ASX: XAO) is limping towards the weekend, wobbling in and out of the green on Friday. But while the index struggles to gain traction, some ASX All Ords shares are posting notable gains.

Right now, the All Ords is down 0.04%. Meanwhile, its top performing constituents are boasting gains as high as 11.3%.

Let's take a look at some of the All Ords shares outperforming on Friday.

These All Ords shares are defying the ASX's downturn

It's been a rough week on the market. Indeed, the benchmark index is on track to finish the week 3.7% lower than it closed last week's trade. But it's not all doom and gloom. Plenty of All Ords shares are boasting notable gains on Friday.

The index is currently being led by three shares, each operating in vastly different spaces.

Oil and gas explorer Carnarvon Energy Ltd (ASX: CVN) is in the lead, posting a 11.3% gain to trade at 16.7 cents. It's joined in the All Ords top three performers by minerals explorer and developer 5E Advanced Materials Inc (ASX: 5EA) – up 7.5% to $2.28 – despite the prices of both oil and major commodities falling overnight.

The Cettire Ltd (ASX: CTT) share price is also posting a decent performance, lifting 7.9% to trade at 75 cents. That's despite no news having been released by the online luxury goods retailer.

Many larger ASX All Ords shares are also putting on a strong performance today.

The Macquarie Group Ltd (ASX: MQG) share price, for one, is lifting 2% right now. Meanwhile, shares in Clinuvel Pharmaceuticals Limited (ASX: CUV) are up 3.9%.

Finally, tech favourite and ASX constituent Life360 Inc (ASX: 360) is also well and truly in the green, having lifted 6.4% at the time of writing.

In afternoon trade, the benchmark index is down 0.7% to 7,020.1 points.

Four ASX shares that are not letting that hold them back today are listed below. Here's why they are pushing higher:

5E Advanced Materials Inc (ASX: 5EA)

The 5E Advanced Materials share price is up 18% to $2.60. This morning the boron and lithium explorer announced that it has entered into an agreement with Bluescape Energy Partners. The US investor will buy $60 million of secured convertible notes. 5E Advanced Materials also advised that the construction of a small-scale boron facility is on schedule for completion in the final quarter of this year.

Insurance Australia Group Ltd (ASX: IAG)

The IAG share price is up 1% to $4.66. Investors have been buying this insurance giant's shares after responding positively to its full year results release. IAG reported a net profit after tax of $347 million for the 12 months ended 30 June. This was up from a $427 million loss in the prior corresponding period.

Magnis Energy Technologies Ltd (ASX: MNS)

The Magnis share price is up 29% to 47 cents. This morning the energy technology company announced that commercial production is underway at its lithium-ion battery plant in New York. Magnis plans to produce several thousand lithium-ion cells in the next month for quality assurance before increasing annual production levels to 1GWh by the end of 2023.

Woodside Energy Group Ltd (ASX: WDS)

The Woodside share price is up 2.5% to $32.43. Investors have been buying Woodside and other energy shares today after the IEA increased its demand growth forecasts. This has led to the S&P/ASX 200 Energy index rising by over 1.7% this afternoon despite the market decline.

The boron and lithium explorer's shares are currently trading at $2,53, a 15% gain. However, in earlier trade, the 5E Advanced Materials share price jumped 20%. For perspective, the S&P/ASX 200 Materials Index (ASX: XMJ) is down 0.45% today.

So what did 5EA announce to the market today?

$60 million investment

5EA advised that US investor Bluescape will buy $60 million of secured convertible notes.

These notes are convertible into shares of 5EA at an initial conversion price of $17.60. The notes will mature on 15 August 2027 unless converted or rebought prior to this date.

Furthermore, 5EA advised that the construction of a small-scale boron facility (SSBF) is on schedule for completion in the final quarter of this year.

The company is also developing commercial partnerships in the lithium and boron markets. Average boric acid prices have surged by more than 50% in the first calendar quarter of 2022, compared to 2020 and 2021.

Commenting on the news, 5EA president and CEO Henri Tausch said:

We are pleased to partner with Bluescape as they are a respected U.S. institutional investor that offers value to our company far beyond that of a typical financial investment.

We also continue to see tremendous team effort as we advance construction of our Small-Scale Boron Facility towards target CQ4 2022 mechanical completion.

5EA share price snapshot

The 5EA Advanced Materials share price has lost 14% in the year to date. However, in the past month, it has rocketed nearly 26%.

In comparison, the benchmark ASX 200 materials index has lost 4% year to date and surged 8% in a month.

5EA has a market capitalisation of about $729 million based on the current share price.

The 5E Advanced Materials Inc (ASX: 5EA) share price has climbed further into the green today, now up 1.77% at $2.88.

Investors have pushed the share from lows of $2.83 on 16 June, following a period of wide-reaching volatility in 2022, as seen on the chart below.

What's up with the 5EA share price?

Investors rallied the 5EA share price back in May as well following the release of the company's third-quarter results.

The minerals exploration and production company reported a net loss from operations of $33 million. That was up from $3.8 million the year prior and amounted to a net loss of 79 cents per share.

Market fundamentals for boric acid are healthy, CEO Henri Tausch said at the time, "with average boric acid prices up more than 50% during Q1 2022".

Aside from that, 5EA yesterday confirmed its NASDAQ-listed stock will be included in the Russell 2000, Russell 3000, and Russell Microcap indices.

Inclusion into the benchmarks will also see 5EA shares purchased by funds and investment managers that have mandates tied to the indices.

It also secures a vote of approval for the share, seeing as it had to pass several selection criteria before its inclusion.

Also in June, 5EA signed a letter of intent with Corning Inc to supply boron specialty metals as part of a collaboration with the company.

Corning is one of the largest technical glass manufacturers in the world, 5EA says.

Since the company floated in March 2022, the 5EA share price is down around 3%.

The benchmark All Ordinaries Index (ASX: XAO) is tracing lower today, down 2.2% to 6,633 at the time of writing.

That brings the index's losses for the week to more than 8%.

However, the downside hasn't stopped these 3 ASX All Ordinaries shares pushing ahead of the pack today.

5E Advanced Materials Inc (ASX: 5EA)

Shares of 5E are climbing in afternoon trade on Friday, currently up by 2.8% to $2.91 despite no news from company, which produces boron and lithium.

It follows a rise of 11.4% yesterday after a period of wide-reaching volatility for this ASX All Ordinaries share, which saw it sink 14.4% on Tuesday and 10.9% on Wednesday.

Earlier in the week, the company announced it will soon be included in the Russell 2000 Index, Russell 3000 Index, and Russell Microcap Index.

Inclusion into the index will see it added to some portfolios and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) that track these particular instruments.

Since listing on the ASX on March 1, the 5E share price is down 2.4%.

APM Human Services International Ltd (ASX: APM)

Shares of APM have also bounced from three-month lows this week. The ASX All Ordinaries share is currently trading 4.5% higher at $2.81.

Investors have bid the APM share price up amid the release of a company announcement on Thursday.

While not price sensitive in any way, the company advised that it had released more than one million shares from a holding lock restriction under its "employee gift offer".

The offer was part of APM's initial public offering (IPO) in November. It notes that it's retained "over 90% of our eligible employees" since that time.

The APM share price has slumped 16% since the company's listing on the ASX in November, and has fallen from a high of $3.45 on 24 May.

Evolution Mining Ltd (ASX: EVN)

The Evolution Mining share price is skipping 4.6% higher at the time of writing, trading at $3.66.

Evolution's shares are surging alongside the price of gold. The yellow metal has ticked up to US$1,846 in the last few days.

The ASX All Ordinaries share also copped an upgrade from analysts at UBS, with the broker setting its recommendation to a buy.

UBS is bullish on the gold sector and sees "more value in the ASX gold sector" as macroeconomic pressures begin to mount.

In the last 12 months, Evolution Mining has slipped 22% into the red.

After a tough start to the week, the All Ordinaries Index (ASX: XAO) rebounded on Thursday.

The index was up by as much as 1.2% during the session before finishing down 0.031%. But many of its constituents did far better than that.

Let's take a look at three ASX shares boasting gains of more than 10% today.

3 ASX All Ordinaries shares up more than 10%

Brainchip Holdings Ltd (ASX: BRN)

The Brainchip share price was lifted by 10.3% to finish at 86 cents today.

Interestingly, today's gain marks the first day in June that the company has traded in the green. Before today, the Brainchip share price was consistently dropping, losing 31% from the end of May.

The ASX technology business works in neuromorphic computing – a branch of artificial intelligence.

There's no news to explain today's boost. However, the S&P/ASX 200 Information Technology Index (ASX: XIJ) was up 2.8% at its highest point today before settling to finish flat.

Brainchip will be included in the ASX 200 index from next week following the quarterly rebalance.

Ioneer Ltd (ASX: INR)

Another ASX All Ordinaries share that soared 10% or more today was Ioneer. It finished at 40 cents, up 12.7%.

This stock has also struggled recently, falling 38% between 31 May and 15 June.

The company is focused on its Rhyolite Ridge Lithium-Boron Project. Ioneer was joined in the green by fellow ASX lithium share, Allkem Ltd (ASX: AKE). The Allkem share price rose by 1.5% today.

Thus, positive market sentiment on commodities is a potential explanation for today's gains.

5E Advanced Materials Inc (ASX: 5EA)

The final ASX All Ordinaries share we'll look at is 5EA Advanced Materials, which rocketed 11.4% to a final price of $2.83.

The company is focused on helping the world decarbonise by producing boron and lithium.

There's been no news to explain today's gain.

However, earlier this week the company announced its NASDAQ-listed stock will soon be included in the Russell 2000 Index, Russell 3000 Index, and Russell Microcap Index.

Commenting on its inclusion, the company's president and CEO Henri Tausch said the Russell indexes are some of the most widely cited for US companies.

The All Ordinaries Index (ASX: XAO) fell today, but some All Ords shares bucked the trend.

The All Ords Index slipped 1.45% to close at 7240.40 points. In comparison, the S&P/ASX 200 Index (ASX: XJO) shed 1.42%.

Let's take a look at three All Ordinaries shares that defied the broader index today.

Megaport Ltd (ASX: MP1)

The Megaport share price climbed 2% today to end the day at $6.12. Megaport shares outperformed the technology sector, with the S&P/ASX All Technology Index (ASX: XTX) down 1.25%.

Megaport could be benefiting from positive broker outlook. Goldman Sachs recently placed a $13.10 price target on the company's shares. This is more than double the current share price.

Citi also recently retained its buy rating but slashed its price target by 26% to $12.30 — still a potential upside of more than 100%.

This ASX All Ordinaries share has a global presence with more than 700 data centres. Goldman predicts the company will grow rapidly in future years as cloud and multi-cloud adoption increases.

Lovisa Holdings Ltd (ASX: LOV)

Lovisa Holdings shares leapt 3.54% in today's trade to close at $14.03. Lovisa is an Australian jewellery retailer which now has a presence in 15 countries globally.

Lovisa shares are recovering after sliding on Tuesday afternoon after the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) lifted rates by 0.5%. Despite plunging by 30% year to date, investors appear to be optimistic the ASX All Ordinaries share can make a recovery.

Morgans has recently placed an add rating and $24 price target on the company's shares. This is a massive 71% upside on the current share price.

Analysts are optimistic about the company's global growth plans, as my Foolish colleague James reported. Morgans said: "LOV may just prove to be one of the biggest success stories in Australian retail."

5E Advanced Materials Inc (ASX: 5EA)

The 5E Advanced Materials share price jumped 4.5% today — the biggest gain of any ASX All Ordinaries share –to finish the day at $3.48. The minerals exploration and production company's shares jumped 7% in earlier trade before retreating. In contrast, the S&P/ASX 200 Materials Index (ASX: XMJ) slid 2.23% today.

5E Advanced Materials has not released any news to the market today. However, on Tuesday it revealed it has signed a non-binding letter of intent for the supply of boron with Corning Incorporated (NYSE: GLW). The company will work with Corning to develop and supply boron for Corning's products.

Commenting on the deal, CEO Henri Tausch said: "Today's announcement marks another key milestone for the company as we have now secured an LOI with one of the largest technical glass manufacturers in the world."

The S&P/ASX All Ordinaries Index (ASX: XAO) is rising 1.86% at the time of writing. There are a few ASX All Ordinaries shares that have also gone up strongly.

In plenty of cases, this is just a reversal of the declines that companies saw in the previous day(s).

But these three businesses are seeing very large gains:

Cettire Ltd (ASX: CTT)

The Cettire share price is currently up by 16.5%. However, the company is still down by 85% since the start of 2022.

Cettire is a global e-commerce player that sells luxury personal goods. It has a catalogue of around 1,700 luxury brands and 200,000 products across clothing, shoes, bags, and accessories.

The most recent news that investors have seen from the ASX All Ordinaries share was its update for the third quarter of FY22.

Year-on-year, sales revenue increased by 163% to $48.7 million, the number of active customers rose by 185% to 246,800 and the number of unique website visits soared by 269%. The company said more than 50% of gross revenue came from repeat purchasers.

Block Inc (ASX: SQ2)

The Block Inc share price is up by 14.2% at the time of writing. However, Block shares are down around 35% since listing on the ASX in January 2022.

This company is a payments business that includes Square and the buy now, pay later business Afterpay.

Block recently announced its quarterly update for the three months to 31 March 2022. It reported that transaction-based revenue rose by around 28% to US$1.23 billion. Subscription and service-based revenue increased by 72% to US$959.6 million.
