About Allkem Ltd
Allkem Limited (ASX: AKE), formerly known as Orocobre Limited (ASX: ORE), is an Australian mineral resources company based in Brisbane. It is a global supplier of lithium carbonate and boron with resources predominantly located in Argentina.
In a partnership arrangement with the trading arm of Toyota, Allkem constructed the first commercial, brine-based lithium operation in approximately 20 years. The company produces and sells lithium to a variety of industrial and technical sectors. According to Allkem, it is one the biggest and lowest-cost lithium producers in the world.
The company is also in the process of constructing a large-scale lithium hydroxide plant in Japan, the first of its kind for the country. Allkem believes the new facility will enable it to drive margin growth through the conversion of lithium carbonate to lithium hydroxide suitable for battery use.
Allkem floated on the ASX in 2007 and also listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange in 2010. As is common with many mining and minerals companies on the ASX, Allkem shares have seen a mixed performance since listing. The Allkem share price reached all-time highs of around $10 in November 2021.
