Mergers & Acquisitions

When one company buys, merges with, or makes a play for another, it can either send share prices soaring or leave shareholders weighing up whether to accept the offer on the table. Australian public M&A stayed active in 2025, with 40 deals involving ASX-listed targets worth $50 million or more, led by the resources and financial services sectors.

Australia also introduced a new mandatory merger control regime from 1 January 2026, meaning bigger deals now face longer review timelines before they can complete.
