The Vocus Group Ltd (ASX: VOC) share price is up 20% to $4.65 today after the telco received a non-binding $5.25 per share cash takeover offer from Swedish private equity group EQT Infrastructure. Vocus shareholders will be delighted that the offer comes at a 35% premium to the $3.89 share price Vocus closed at last Friday.

The Vocus share price is still trading around 11% below the $5.25 takeover offer price because there's no certainty the deal will go ahead—EQT Infrastructure could withdraw their offer after taking a close look at Vocus's books and completing other due diligence.

Back in June 2017, US private equity group KKR pulled out of a $3.50 per share takeover offer for Vocus for unexplained reasons.

On the other hand, optimistically minded Vocus shareholders may dream of another group lobbing an even better takeover for Vocus than the $5.25 per share offered by EQT Infrastructure. A number of media outlets have regularly reported that there's more than one business interested in buying Vocus's internet infrastructure.
