Australia's S&P/ASX 200 (Index: ^AXJO)(ASX: XJO) and ALL ORDINARIES (Index: ^AXAO) (ASX: XAO) indices finished higher on Wednesday.

Here's a short recap of the Australian market:

  • S&P/ASX 200 (Index: ^AXJO) (ASX: XJO) higher 0.67% to 6,245.10
  • ALL ORDINARIES (Index: ^AXAO) (ASX: XAO) higher 0.65% to 6,329.10

  • Brent Oil at US$71.65 a barrel

The best-performing ASX 200 share today was Technology One Limited (ASX: TNE), it went up another 6.3% after announcing it would change its accounting policy.

One of the biggest reasons for the ASX's strong rise today was BHP Billiton Limited (ASX: BHP) gaining 3.3% after reporting its production report.

There appears to be no stopping the Afterpay Touch Group Ltd (ASX: APT) share price, it climbed another 4.6% today.

There was nothing stale about Bega Cheese Ltd (ASX: BGA) climbing 4% today after announcing the acquisition of a $250 million dairy processing facility.

It wasn't a good day for Navitas Limited (ASX: NVT) after investors learned it would be closing some programs.

Another performer today was Saracen Mineral Holdings Limited (ASX: SAR), it climbed 3.9%.

Finally, two of the worst performers today were oil companies due to the steadily-declining oil price. Beach Energy Ltd (ASX: BPT) fell 2.8% and Oil Search Limited (ASX: OSH) dropped by 2.2%.
