It has been a subdued start to this week's trading with the S&P/ASX 200 Index (Index: ^AXJO) (ASX: XJO) ending the day just 0.03% higher.
Earlier in the day the index came within two points of its five-year high, however as the afternoon progressed the market slipped back. There was little in the way of economic news to provide conviction for investors and a lacklustre performance from Wall Street on Friday failed to provide much direction. At the close on Friday the Dow Jones and the S&P 500 were both 0.19% lower.
Here are the top five best performing stocks in the index today.
- Transfield Services Limited (ASX: TSE) soared 24.5% to 99 cents
- Beach Energy Limited (ASX: BPT) rallied 8.9% to $1.66
- BlueScope Steel Ltd (ASX: BSL) jumped 7.3% to $6.30
- Lynas Corporation Limited (ASX: LYC) climbed 6.9% to 31 cents
- EVOLUTION FPO (ASX: EVN) rose 6.7% to 95 cents
