The All Ordinaries Index (ASX: XAO) is down 0.4% in Tuesday morning trade, but that's not holding back this ASX All Ords silver share.

The outperforming miner in question is Andean Silver Ltd (ASX: ASL).

Andean Silver shares closed yesterday trading for $1.83. At the time of writing, shares are swapping hands for $1.86 apiece, up 1.6%.

This outperformance follows a promising exploration update from the company's Cerro Bayo Silver-Gold Project, located in Chile.

Here's what we know.

ASX All Ords silver share lifts on bonanza-grade silver-gold results

The Andean Silver shares price is marching higher today after the miner reported that it has defined a "highly prospective" new area at Cerro Bayo.

The ASX All Ords silver share said the area has the potential to host a major silver-gold system, rather than isolated vein occurrences. And the new trend, named the Juanita Prospect, is situated just six kilometres from the Laguna Verde processing facility.

Noting that mineralised breccia zones were observed with widths up to 18 metres, some of the top initial outcrop mapping and rock chip sampling of these zones returned results that included:

62,663g/t silver equivalent (25,047g/t Ag & 453.2g/t Au) or 755g/t AuEq

41,489g/t silver equivalent (37,024g/t Ag & 53.8g/t Au) or 500g/t AuEq

Andean Silver said that prior historic scout drilling and channel sampling programs conducted in this area hadn't comprehensively tested the high-grade breccia zones, with only five holes and channels intersecting parts of this higher-grade system.

The ASX All Ords silver share is now progressing with geological mapping and sawn channel sampling along the two-kilometre-long Juanita trend to further define the extent of the high-grade silver gold mineralisation prior to drill testing the zone.

What did Andean Silver management say?

Commenting on the results helping lift the ASX All Ords silver share today, Andean Silver managing director Matthew Allen said, "Juanita is emerging as a potentially significant silver-gold prospect."

Allen added:

Its mineralisation differs from the vein-style deposits common across the company's tenure, with high-grade silver and gold occurring over a substantial strike length and through multiple mineralising events.

Juanita historically has remained underexplored for 20 years due to the subtle surface expression of the system exposed on surface and limited intersection in historic scout drilling.

Juanita represents a third new large exploration area identified outside the existing resources at the Cerro Bayo Project, which include the Guanaco and Droughtmaster corridors, building Andean's future prospect pipeline.

With the miner reporting $53.4 million in cash at the end of the March quarter, it said it is well-funded for the growth drilling and future feasibility works ahead.

The Andean Silver Ltd (ASX: ASL) share price is in focus today after the company pinpointed a bonanza-grade silver-gold trend at its Cerro Bayo Project's Juanita prospect, returning surface samples up to 62,663 grams per tonne silver equivalent.

What did Andean Silver report?

Surface sampling at Juanita prospect returned assays up to 62,663g/t silver equivalent (25,047g/t Ag & 453.2g/t Au), or 755g/t gold equivalent

High-grade breccia zone defined over 2 kilometres strike length, with observed widths up to 18 metres

Historic drilling and channel results include 17.1m @ 194g/t AgEq and 1.6m @ 1,209g/t AgEq

Juanita sits outside the existing Cerro Bayo 136Moz AgEq mineral resource

Andean Silver held $53.4 million in cash at the end of March quarter 2026

What else do investors need to know?

The Juanita discovery marks the third major greenfield exploration area identified by Andean Silver at Cerro Bayo, indicating a pathway for further growth beyond current resources. Juanita's mineralisation differs from the typical epithermal veins of the district, displaying high-grade precious metals across multiple events and a large breccia system.

Recent mapping suggests past drilling was limited, with much of Juanita's most prospective zones remaining untested. The company is now embarking on detailed geological work and systematic sampling along the 2-kilometre trend to firm up priority drill targets.

What did Andean Silver management say?

Andean Silver Managing Director Matthew Allen said:

What's next for Andean Silver?

Andean Silver plans to accelerate mapping, channel sampling, and drill planning at Juanita, targeting high-grade zones for maiden drill tests. Broader objectives include ramping up both brownfields and greenfields exploration throughout Cerro Bayo to grow resources and restart production.

The company is well funded to support these campaigns, with feasibility and resource upgrade studies running in parallel. Andean aims to transition Cerro Bayo from an exploration project into a near-term development and production asset by late 2027.

Andean Silver share price snapshot

Over the past 12 months, Andean Silver shares have risen 31%, outperforming the S&P/ASX All Ords Index (ASX: XAO), which has risen 1% over the same period.

The outperforming miner in question is Andean Silver Ltd (ASX: ASL).

Andean Silver shares closed yesterday trading for $2.44. In late morning trade on Thursday, shares are changing hands for $2.485 apiece, up 1.8%.

Taking a step back, Andean Silver shares have surged a whopping 151.9% over the past 12 months, smashing the 4.1% one-year gains delivered by the benchmark index.

Part of that strong outperformance has been driven by the surging silver price. Currently fetching US$87.56 (according to data from Bloomberg), the silver price has gained 171% since this time last year.

And Andean Silver has hardly been sitting idle.

Here's what the miner just reported.

ASX All Ords silver share lifts on high-grade results

Andean Silver shares are marching higher today after the miner announced promising results from its Cerro Bayo Silver-Gold Project, located in Chile.

The ASX All Ords silver share said that the discovery of "bonanza-grade veins" beyond current resources is paving the way for ongoing resource growth at Cerro Bay.

Top vein chip sample results from the latest exploration activities include 5,643 grams of silver per tonne equivalent.

The miner also reported sawn channel results, which included 0.8 metres at 1,1184 grams of silver per tonne equivalent (or 13.3 grams of gold per tonne equivalent).

Promisingly, the company said that these targets are located just 200 metres from the Laguna Verde processing facility.

Andean Silver expects to deliver a Mineral Resource Estimate update for Cerro Bay in June. It noted that economic studies are underway.

What did Andean Silver management say?

Commenting on the exploration results boosting the ASX All Ords silver share today, Andean Silver CEO Matthew Allen said, "These results continue to demonstrate the scope to grow the Cerro Bayo resource, with the discovery of more high-grade silver-gold veins over extensive lengths."

Looking ahead, Allen added:

We continue to generate a compelling pipeline of drilling targets identified by mapping, sampling and a re-evaluation of the geological data at Cerro Bayo.

There is a direct link between resource growth and the value we create for our shareholders. This is why we have four rigs drilling to increase and upgrade the existing resources. And we plan to further ramp up drilling while advancing the mine study phase.

Andean Silver Ltd (ASX: ASL) shares are slipping on Tuesday after the explorer released another strong drilling update before the market open.

At the time of writing, the Andean Silver share price is down 1.58% to $1.87, extending its losses from last week's pullback.

The stock remains down almost 22% since the start of 2026, showing just how volatile sentiment has been this year.

The latest move comes despite the company reporting more high-grade drilling success at its Cerro Bayo silver-gold project in Chile.

Let's take a closer look.

More strong drilling results from Cerro Bayo

According to the ASX release, Andean Silver delivered another batch of strong assay results from the Cerro Bayo project.

Ongoing drilling continues to extend known mineralisation while giving the company more confidence in the overall resource base.

Some of the standout results included 68.3 metres at 65g/t silver equivalent from the Appaloosa Breccia zone, including a much higher-grade 1.3 metres at 1,523g/t silver equivalent.

The company also reported 33.2 metres at 75g/t silver equivalent, with several smaller high-grade sections inside that result.

These results are expected to feed into a mineral resource update planned for the June quarter.

The current Cerro Bayo resource already stands at 9.8 million tonnes grading 353g/t silver equivalent for 111 million ounces of contained silver equivalent.

Why investors are looking beyond the recent volatility

Investors seem to be looking past the recent share price volatility and focusing more on the growing scale now emerging across multiple target zones.

Today's announcement also showed progress across Temer, Coyita North, and the Appaloosa Breccia, with management saying the updated resource is expected to support restart studies later this year.

The company also remains well funded, with roughly $56.1 million in cash following its recent capital raising. This gives it the flexibility to keep drilling aggressively through 2026.

That strong cash position also lowers near-term funding concerns and gives investors a clearer path to the June catalyst.

Foolish Takeaway

While the share price is still down quite a bit in 2026, the new drilling results continue to support the view that Cerro Bayo could become a much larger and more defined silver-gold asset over time.

The June quarter resource update now looks like the next major event that could decide whether this rebound has more room to keep going.

A stronger June resource update could give investors more confidence in plans to bring the project back into production.

ASX silver stocks have lit up the market today.

During lunchtime, Silver Mines Ltd (ASX: SVL) and Andean Silver Ltd (ASX: ASL) have both surged more than 16%. Not far behind, Unico Silver Ltd (ASX: USL) has jumped nearly 13%.

So, what's driving the rally? It all comes down to one thing: the price of silver.

Silver price rebounds hard

The silver price has climbed around 4% today. That was enough to send ASX-listed silver stocks flying.

But the bigger story is volatility.

Silver has been on a powerful bull run over the past year, driven by tight supply and booming demand. Along the way, it's delivered big gains but not without sharp pullbacks.

In fact, prices have dropped about 16% over the past month. That rattled sentiment and dragged ASX silver stocks lower.

Now, we're seeing a bounce.

At the time of writing, silver is sitting around US$74.15 per ounce. That's roughly 120% higher than a year ago, a massive move.

And it explains why investors are piling back in.

What's fuelling demand?

Silver isn't just a precious metal. It's also an industrial powerhouse.

Demand is exploding across several fast-growing sectors. Solar panels are a major driver. Silver is a key component in photovoltaic cells.

Electric vehicles are another. They rely on silver for electrical systems and conductivity.

Then there's data centres. As global computing demand rises, so does the need for silver in electronics and infrastructure.

This combination — industrial demand plus investment demand — makes silver unique.

It behaves like both a growth metal and a safe haven. That's a powerful mix.

What's the outlook?

The big question: can silver keep climbing?

According to the London Bullion Market Association 2026 Precious Metals Forecast Survey, the average expected silver price for 2026 is US$79.57 per ounce. That's roughly a potential 7% upside from current price levels.

In other words, while the long-term outlook remains strong, some analysts think prices may cool in the near term after such a huge run.

Still, with supply constraints and structural demand in place, the broader trend remains positive.

What next for the ASX silver stocks?

Each of today's winners tells a similar story: big long-term gains, but recent weakness.

Silver Mines is up around 82% over the past 12 months. But it's still down about 18% year to date.

Andean Silver has climbed roughly 63% over the past year, yet has slipped 17% in 2026 so far.

Unico Silver has been the standout performer. The $350 million ASX silver stock has surged an incredible 158% over 12 months — but even it is down about 22% year to date.

That gap highlights just how volatile the sector is.

These stocks tend to amplify moves in the silver price. When silver rises, they often rise faster. When it falls, they can drop just as quickly.

Foolish Takeaway

Today's surge shows how quickly sentiment can shift in the silver space.

A modest 4% move in the underlying commodity was enough to spark double-digit gains in ASX stocks.

If silver continues higher, these names could keep running.

But buckle up — volatility is part of the ride.

ASX silver shares have been one of the hottest commodities thanks to the rocketing global silver price.

Yesterday, the price of silver jumped more than 7%, pushing it to around US$111 per ounce, near record levels.

Prices are trading near US$104 per ounce, after jumping more than 50% in the past month and 260% over the past year.

As The Motley Fool's Aaron Teboneras covered yesterday, this has been driven by a rare combination of geopolitical risk, industrial demand, and speculative momentum.

The global rise in silver prices has seen many ASX silver shares benefit.

For example:

Silver Mines Limited (ASX: SVL) is up almost 300% in the last year

Andean Silver Ltd (ASX: ASL) is up 134%.

New ASX ETF targeting Silver shares

For investors looking to gain diversified exposure to this booming sector without selecting just one stock could be in luck.

Yesterday, Global X announced the release of its newest ASX ETF.

It will operate under the name Global X Silver Miners ETF (ASX: SLVM).

According to the ETF provider, it provides access to a global basket of silver miners which stand to benefit from rising silver prices and being a key part of the value chain facilitating growth in photovoltaics, advanced electronics and more.

According to a report from the provider, silver has begun to re-emerge as a focal point for investors, with spot prices recently breaking above the nominal highs last seen during the Hunt Brothers–driven spike of 1980.

This renewed strength comes at a time when silver's role in the global economy has expanded materially. Beyond its traditional monetary and store-of-value characteristics, silver has become a critical input into the energy transition and a range of advanced technologies, fundamentally reshaping demand dynamics at a time when supply has struggled to respond.

Global X currently provides pure-play physical silver exposures through Global X Physical Silver Structured (ASX: ETPMAG).

The launch of this new silver miners ETF offers investors an alternative avenue for accessing the theme, capturing the operating leverage inherent in mining equities.

Overview

The ASX ETF is made up of 39 holdings, with a unique focus on silver miners, rather than a physical pure-play option.

22% mid-cap

5.7% small-cap

Geographically, it has largest exposure to companies based in:

What an extraordinary run it has been for silver.

The sharp price surge has pushed the white metal back into the global spotlight.

Prices are trading near US$104 per ounce, after jumping more than 50% in the past month and 260% over the past year. A rare combination of geopolitical risk, industrial demand, and speculative momentum is driving silver sharply higher.

A perfect storm for precious metals

Silver's surge is closely tied to the broader rally across precious metals. Gold has pushed to fresh all-time highs, and silver has followed, amplified by its smaller and less liquid market.

A major driver has been rising geopolitical risk. Escalating global tensions, renewed trade war fears, and ongoing instability across multiple regions have pushed investors back toward hard assets. At the same time, concerns about government debt levels and long-term currency weakness have strengthened the appeal of precious metals as a store of value.

Silver has also benefited from growing expectations that global central banks will eventually be forced to ease monetary policy, as markets look ahead to slower growth and softer inflation.

Industrial demand is adding fuel to the rally

Unlike gold, silver is not just a financial asset. It plays a key role in industrial applications, particularly in solar panels, electric vehicles, electronics, and data centres linked to artificial intelligence. Demand from these sectors continues to rise, even as mine supply struggles to keep up.

Supply has also been tight. The silver market has run in deficit for several years, with limited inventories and little new production coming online. As investment demand has picked up, that imbalance has become harder for the market to ignore.

Momentum and speculation take over

Speculative momentum has been another key driver behind silver's sharp rise. Retail investors have piled into silver through coins, bars, and ETFs, driven by fear of missing out.

Technical signals also point to stretched positioning, with silver trading well above key averages. Some analysts warn a pullback could occur, but momentum remains firmly in control for now.

ASX silver stocks back in focus

With prices surging, ASX-listed silver explorers and producers are attracting renewed investor interest.

Silver Mines Ltd (ASX: SVL) is one of the better-known names in the ASX silver space. The company focuses on acquiring and developing quality silver projects, and its share price has rallied strongly in recent months alongside the broader silver price boom. Over the past year, Silver Mines' stock performance has significantly outpaced key sectors, reflecting strong sentiment around silver's outlook.

Another company worth watching is Andean Silver Ltd (ASX: ASL). This explorer and developer also benefits from elevated silver prices. Andean Silver's share price has shown strong moves as the silver rally gathered pace, although, like many junior miners, it can be volatile and sensitive to silver price swings.

What happens next?

While silver's run has been extraordinary, analysts remain divided on what happens next. Some see continued upside as supply deficits deepen and industrial demand expands. Others warn that the rapid rise could lead to technical corrections, especially if speculative enthusiasm fades.

Despite differing views on where silver heads next, its surge near US$104 per ounce is making 2026 a standout year.

Silver prices dropped sharply overnight, falling about 5% in a single session, after recently reaching the highest level on record.

Earlier this week, silver surged above US$92 per ounce as investors piled into safe-haven assets. Rising global tensions, uncertainty around US interest rate expectations, and trade policy risks all helped push money into precious metals like silver and gold.

But after that rapid rise, prices suddenly pulled back.

So, what changed? Let's take a closer look.

Why silver fell so quickly

The main reason for the white metal's drop was profit-taking.

After silver raced to record highs, many traders decided to lock in their gains. When prices move up very fast, it is common for investors to sell and take profits, which puts pressure on prices.

At the same time, the US government eased some short-term fears around trade policy. US President Donald Trump signalled that he would temporarily delay new tariffs on critical minerals, choosing instead to negotiate supply agreements with key trading partners.

That move reduced some of the uncertainty that had been driving safe-haven demand. With less fear in the market, investors have become less willing to keep chasing silver at record levels.

A big run still behind it

Even after the drop, silver remains well above where it was a year ago.

Silver prices have risen significantly over the past 12 months, increasing by around 186%, driven by a combination of investment demand and industrial usage. Silver is widely used in electronics, renewable energy, and electric vehicles, which has helped strengthen its long-term outlook.

What it means for ASX silver stocks

ASX silver stocks have closely followed the metal's price movements.

One of the most well-known names is Silver Mines Ltd (ASX: SVL). The company owns the Bowdens silver project in New South Wales and is often seen as a pure play on silver prices.

Another miner to watch is Andean Silver Ltd (ASX: ASL), which has also shown strong moves as silver prices surged and then pulled back.

It is worth remembering that junior mining stocks often move far more than the underlying commodity, both on the way up and on the way down.

Other ASX silver explorers have shown similar behaviour, with strong rallies followed by sharp pullbacks as market sentiment shifts.

What happens next?

Silver remains a volatile asset, and sharp daily moves are not unusual, especially after prices reach such extreme levels.

If global uncertainty returns or interest rate expectations shift again, silver could quickly find a stream of buyers. But in the short term, investors should expect continued ups and downs, particularly after such a historic rally.

Silver has had an incredible run, and this drop looks like a normal correction rather than panic selling. As always, prices can move fast in both directions, especially when markets are driven by news headlines.

Shares in Australian silver companies were trading sharply higher on Monday, following a strong week in which the price of silver jumped more than 13%.

Shares in Andean Silver Ltd (ASX: ASL) were 9.9% higher on Monday at $2.55, Unico Silver Ltd (ASX: USL) shares were 11.64% higher at $1.05, and shares in early-stage company Investigator Silver Ltd (ASX: IVR) were 13.1% higher at 14.7 cents.

This followed the silver price increasing 13.8% to $122.75 per ounce in Australian dollar terms over the course of last week.

Beating gold for gains

MineLife director Gavin Wendt recently published a research note on silver in which he pointed out that the precious metal has outperformed gold in recent times, "with prices swinging sharply as changing economic signals and evolving tariff policies influenced market sentiment''.

Mr Wendt said the strength in the silver price had been underpinned by a number of factors, including a persistent supply deficit, strong industrial demand from the solar industry, and renewed investment flows "as a cheaper alternative to gold''.

Mr Wendt said that uncertainty about whether the US would impose a tariff on silver had led to outflows of the metal from London to the US, resulting in a sharp decline in silver stocks in London, which is the primary trading hub.

Mr Wendt said:

There is … still the possibility of a tariff on silver, with the recent inclusion of the precious metal to the US Geological Survey list of critical minerals increasing the likelihood of US import tariffs.

Macro trends support strong prices

Mr Wendt said as we move further into 2026, silver would continue to be supported by improving investor sentiment towards precious metals "and tightening physical balances''.

He added:

From a macro perspective, silver should benefit from the same drivers expected to support gold – a softer US dollar, Federal Reserve rate cuts, and renewed appetite for safe-haven assets amid geopolitical concerns. Historically, silver has outperformed gold during easing cycles, as lower real yields tend to lift both investor allocation and industrial activity.

Mr Wendt said a key difference to gold was that industrial demand accounted for more than half of total silver consumption.

Demand for solar is likely to slow, particularly in China after a few strong years, however additional demand tailwinds come from electrification, power grid upgrades, and growing use of silver in automotive components, especially in hybrid and battery electric vehicles.

Mr Wendt said silver can "massively outperform gold in a bull market", but it can also fall harder in a downturn, and he expected price volatility to continue this year.

Another sharp rally is unfolding in the ASX silver space on Monday.

Andean Silver Ltd (ASX: ASL) shares are jumping 9.05% to $2.53, extending a run that has already delivered 167% gains over the past year.

With silver prices hitting fresh record highs overnight, investors are once again piling into high-leverage silver explorers.

So why is Andean Silver benefiting so strongly today?

Silver prices hit fresh record highs

The biggest tailwind for Andean Silver right now is the surge in silver prices.

Overnight, spot silver jumped more than 3.5% to around US$82.80 per ounce, pushing the metal to fresh record highs. According to Trading Economics, silver is now up nearly 180% over the past year.

Rising expectations of US interest rate cuts, geopolitical uncertainty, and strong investment demand have all combined to push precious metals sharply higher.

Cerro Bayo project back in focus

Andean Silver is advancing its 100% owned Cerro Bayo Silver-Gold Project in southern Chile.

The project already hosts indicated and inferred mineral resources of around 9.8 million tonnes, with meaningful silver and gold grades. Recent exploration success has helped position Cerro Bayo as one of the more advanced silver development assets on the ASX.

With silver prices now at record levels, investors appear to be reassessing the long-term value of the project and the company's leverage to further price upside.

Technical picture supports momentum

The stock recently broke above prior resistance around $2.30, which now looks to be acting as short-term support. Today's move is pushing the shares back toward the $2.60 to $2.70 resistance zone witnessed in late December.

The RSI is sitting around the high 50s, suggesting the stock is strong but not yet in overbought territory. That leaves room for further upside if silver prices continue to rise.

Andean Silver also carries a relatively high beta, meaning it tends to move more sharply than the broader market. That can amplify gains during strong commodity cycles, but it also increases volatility.

What investors should watch next

Looking ahead, the direction of silver prices remains the key driver for Andean Silver shares.

Any further strength in precious metals could continue to fuel momentum, particularly as investors look for high-leverage exposure to silver rather than the physical metal.

At the same time, this has already been a powerful run. Pullbacks are normal after sharp rallies, especially in small-cap resource stocks.

For now, today's surge highlights just how sensitive Andean Silver shares are to silver prices and why the stock remains firmly on the watchlists of many investors.

In afternoon trade, the benchmark index is down 0.4% to 8,692.9 points.

Four ASX shares that are falling more than most today are listed below. Here's why they are dropping:

Andean Silver Ltd (ASX: ASL)

The Andean Silver share price is down 2.5% to $2.42. This follows news that the silver miner has doubled the size of its share purchase plan (SPP) due to increased demand. The SPP will now raise $6 million, but it could have been so much more. Andean Silver revealed that it received applications totalling approximately $18 million, which significantly exceeded the original $3 million target. Andean Silver's chair, David Southam, said: "The demand for the SPP was exceptionally strong, reflecting the rapid progress we are making at the Cerro Bayo Project and our ability to unlock an abundance of opportunities to drive growth and value creation. The proceeds from the Placement and SPP will help us accelerate our drilling programs, project studies and potential land acquisitions. Andean is uniquely placed in the silver market with its significant existing infrastructure, which will help deliver a capital-light restart in the quickest and most efficient manner."

Commonwealth Bank of Australia (ASX: CBA)

The CBA share price is down over 2% to $156.76. This is despite there being no news out of the banking giant. However, it is worth noting that all the big four banks are sharply lower today. This could be a sign that some large investors are rotating out of the banks and into other areas.

Life360 Inc (ASX: 360)

The Life360 share price is down 2.5% to $31.18. This morning, this location technology company announced the completion of its Nativo acquisition and provided an update on its user growth. With respect to the latter, Life360 now has over 50 million monthly active users (MAU) in the United States. This is up from 48.7 million at the end of September, which may be lower than the market was expecting given its historical growth rates.

Silex Systems Ltd (ASX: SLX)

The Silex Systems share price is down 35% to $6.33. This morning, the company revealed that its joint venture business, Global Laser Enrichment, has not been selected for a US$900 million program focused on low enriched uranium by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). And while the company has been selected for an award of up to US$28 million from the DOE to advance next generation laser-based uranium enrichment technology, this wasn't the award the market was hoping for.

Silver hit an all-time high this week after bulldozing its way through US$80 per ounce.

Remarkably, the price of the metal has now surged by nearly to 190% since the start of the year.

It has also handsomely outperformed gold.

For comparison, the gold price has delivered strong gains of its own, climbing by approximately 73% in 2025.

Not surprisingly, both metals have left the broader market firmly in their wake.

For context, the S&P/ASX All Ordinaries Index (ASX: XAO) has risen by about 6.8% during the same timeframe.

Despite this powerful rally, investors seeking exposure to silver have a limited number of ASX mining stocks to consider.

The silver conundrum for investors in ASX mining stocks

In essence, there are no dedicated silver mining stocks in the ASX 200.

This is a major difference to gold which offers a string of options.

These include ASX 200 stalwarts like Northern Star Resources Ltd (ASX: NST), Newmont Corporation CDI (ASX: NEM), and Evolution Mining Ltd (ASX: EVN).

However, one of the few practical choices for exposure to silver is the Global X Physical Silver Structured (ASX: ETPMAG) exchange-traded fund (ETF).

This ASX ETF is designed to generate returns that mirror the silver price in Australian dollars, minus fees and expenses.

Overall, shares in this ASX ETF are up by 145% since the start of the year, trading at $107.00 each at the time of writing.

However, the ASX is also home to several exploration companies moving their silver projects towards production.

Below, we introduce three little-known ASX mining stocks advancing their respective projects and riding this year's silver price explosion.

Andean Silver Ltd (ASX: ASL)

Andean Silver is progressing its Cerro Bayo silver and gold project in Chile towards mining.

So far, the ASX mining stock has defined a resource containing 47 million ounces of silver and 800,000 ounces of gold.

Current work is focused on expanding the resource through extension and exploration drilling, with recent results hinting at the project's upside potential.

Earlier this month, the company reported "outstanding" silver and gold intersections at Cerro Bayo, extending the known mineralisation beyond the current resource.

Since the start of the year, Andean shares have surged by 207% to reach $2.58 per share at the time of writing.

Sun Silver Limited (ASX: SS1)

Sun Silver is advancing its Maverick Springs silver and gold project in the US state of Nevada.

The ASX mining stock believes Maverick Springs is the largest undeveloped primary silver project on the ASX.

It hosts a resource containing 347 million ounces of silver and 2.2 million ounces of gold.

Management also noted that the mineralised system at Maverick Springs remains open in all directions, potentially paving the way for further growth.

Shares in Sun Silver haven rocketed by 210% so far this year, climbing to $1.99 apiece at the time of writing.

Unico Silver Ltd (ASX: USL)

Unico Silver is progressing two silver and gold projects in Argentina: Cerro Leon and Joaquin.

So far, it has defined a resource containing 232 million ounces of silver equivalent across both projects.

However, the ASX mining stock aims to grow this number beyond 300 million ounces through an ongoing exploration drilling campaign.

Its efforts will likely be aided by a significant cash injection announced last month.

In a nutshell, Unico pocketed $50 million from an institutional placement and share purchase plan to fast-track its growth strategy.

At the time of writing, shares in this ASX mining stock are changing hands at $0.90 per share.

They have now rocketed by 350% since the start of the year.

The price of silver has broken the US$60 per ounce mark for the first time, sending the share price of Australian silver companies soaring.

The Australian was reporting on Wednesday morning that the price of silver futures closed up 4.1% in overnight trading to US$60.17, with the price more than doubling over the past year.

Among Australian shares, Andean Silver Ltd (ASX: ASL) was 14.9% higher at $2.15, Silver Mines Ltd (ASX: SVL) was 5.3% higher at 20 cents, and Mithril Silver and Gold Ltd (ASX: MTH) was 5.2% higher at 51 cents.

Shares in Unico Silver Ltd (ASX: USL) were also sharply higher at 67.5 cents, up 10.7%.

Support looking strong

Minelife analyst Gavin Wendt said in a note to clients in recent days that silver has had a strong couple of weeks, with strong inflows into exchange-traded funds adding more impetus to the price rally.

As he said:

Total additions to silver-backed exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in the four days through Thursday were already the highest for any full week since July, a strong indicator of investor appetite despite signals silver's gains may be overdone.

Mr Wendt said on a fundamental basis, the support for silver would remain strong.

Silver prices have roughly doubled this year, outpacing a 60% rise in gold. The rally has accelerated in the last two months, in part thanks to a historic squeeze in London. While that crunch has eased in recent weeks as more metal was shipped to the world's biggest silver trading hub, other markets are now seeing supply constraints. Chinese inventories are near their lowest in a decade.

Rates move a positive

Mr Wendt said speculation that US interest rates would be heading lower was also a positive for silver, as a lower interest rate environment tended to support the prices of precious metals.

He also said Citigroup analysts were predicting possible further gains.

Silver could rise to US$62 an ounce in the coming three months 'on the back of Fed cuts, robust investment demand, and physical deficit,' Citigroup Inc. analysts including Max Layton wrote in a note.

Mr Wendt said global demand for silver, which was used in a wide variety of industrial processes, had outstripped output from mines for the past five years.

Not just valued as an investment asset, silver also has many useful real-world properties that make it a component in a range of products, such as circuit boards, solar panels and coatings for medical devices.

The S&P/ASX 200 Index (ASX: XJO) is starting the week in a subdued manner. In afternoon trade, the benchmark index is down 0.35% to 8,602.7 points.

Four ASX shares that are falling more than most today are listed below. Here's why they are dropping:

Andean Silver Ltd (ASX: ASL)

The Andean Silver share price is down 12% to $1.84. This morning, the silver developer revealed that it has received firm commitments for a $30 million placement to institutional and sophisticated investors. The placement was undertaken at $1.85 per new share, which represents an 11.5% discount to its last close price. Andean's chief executive, Tim Laneyrie, said: "We have an abundance of opportunities to drive growth and value creation. The proceeds from the Placement and SPP will help us unlock these opportunities through drilling programs, project studies and potential land acquisitions. We are on track to deliver a resource upgrade in the new year while ramping up our drilling to grow and upgrade the resource."

Boss Energy Ltd (ASX: BOE)

The Boss Energy share price is down 5% to $1.60. This follows news that the uranium producer is one of six shares that will be kicked out of the benchmark ASX 200 index at the next quarterly rebalance. Boss Energy shares will be removed from the index at the start of trade on 22 December. This may have forced some fund managers with strict investment mandates to sell its shares today.

Chalice Mining Ltd (ASX: CHN)

The Chalice Mining share price is down 9% to $1.59. This has been driven by the release of the pre-feasibility study (PFS) for the Gonneville Palladium-Nickel-Copper Project. The PFS confirmed a long life, globally competitive critical minerals mine in Western Australia, which it believes will generate $4.7 billion in free cashflow (pre-tax) over an initial 23 year open-pit mine life. It also estimates that it has a rapid payback of 2.7 years. However, a final investment decision on the project is not expected until the first half of 2028. This means there is significant uncertainty with respect to commodity price assumptions used in the PFS.

Rio Tinto Ltd (ASX: RIO)

The Rio Tinto share price is down 1.5% to $136.45. This is despite copper prices rising on Friday. Some investors may be taking profit after strong gains were made in recent months. For example, since this time six months ago, Rio Tinto's shares remain up 25%. In other news, this morning Macquarie Group Ltd (ASX: MQG) retained its neutral rating and $130.00 price target on the miner's shares.

The All Ordinaries Index (ASX: XAO) is down 0.2% on Monday, and it's not getting any help from this plunging All Ords ASX silver share.

The falling miner in question is Andean Silver Ltd (ASX: ASL).

Andean Silver shares closed last Thursday at $2.09 each. Then the stock entered a trading halt on Friday pending the release of an announcement regarding a capital raising.

That announcement was released before market open today. And investors have responded by reaching for their sell buttons.

In late morning trade on Monday, the ASX silver share is trading for $1.83, down 12.4%. But don't feel too badly for longer-term shareholders. Amid record-setting silver prices and the miner's own operational successes, the share price remains up 117.9% in 2025.

Now, here's what's putting the Andean Silver share price under pressure today.

All Ords ASX silver share raises $30 million at sharp discount

The Andean Silver share price is under heavy pressure after the company reported that it has received firm commitments from institutional and sophisticated investors to raise $30 million through the issue of just over 16.2 million shares.

While those new funds will be welcome, investors are selling the ASX silver share as the company is issuing the new shares for $1.85 each, or 11.5% below Thursday's closing price.

Andean Silver said it will also undertake a share purchase plan (SPP) to raise approximately $3 million. Those new shares will also be issued for $1.85 apiece.

The miner intends to use much of the roughly $33 million in expected new funds to fast-track the drilling campaign at its Cerro Bayo Silver-Gold Project, located in Chile. This was said to include resource growth, resource conversion, and regional exploration.

What did management say?

Commenting on the discounted capital raise that's pressuring the ASX silver share today, Andean Silver CEO Tim Laneyrie said, "We have an abundance of opportunities to drive growth and value creation."

Laneyrie added, "The proceeds from the Placement and SPP will help us unlock these opportunities through drilling programs, project studies and potential land acquisitions."

Looking ahead, he concluded:

We are on track to deliver a resource upgrade in the new year while ramping up our drilling to grow and upgrade the resource.

Andean is uniquely placed in the silver market with its significant existing infrastructure which will help deliver a capital-light restart in the quickest and most efficient manner. Being well supported and funded by shareholders will enable that groundwork to occur during 2026.

The silver price hit a new all-time high this week, breaking above US$58 per ounce for the first time in history.

The metal has now surged by 102% this year, leaving the broader market in its wake.

As a comparison, the S&P/ASX All Ordinaries Index (ASX: XAO) has risen by about 5% during the same period.

Not only that, but silver's record-breaking rally has even eclipsed gold's impressive run in 2025.

All up, the gold price has lifted by about 60% since the start of the year.

However, investors looking for silver exposure on the ASX face a more limited set of options than they do with gold.

The silver difference

The rocketing gold price has seen some of the leading ASX 200 gold stocks storm higher during the year.

For example, shares in the world's largest gold miner, Newmont Corporation CDI (ASX: NEM), have lifted by about 124% since early January to $137.22 each at the time of writing.

Fellow ASX mining stock Evolution Mining Ltd (ASX: EVN) has fared even better, with its share price jumping by 147% in the same timeframe to $11.97 per share.

Unlike gold, however, there are no dedicated silver mining stocks within the ASX 200.

That said, one practical avenue for exposure to the metal is through the Global X Physical Silver Structured (ASX: ETPMAG) exchange-traded fund (ETF).

This ETF is designed to generate returns that mirror the silver price in Australian dollars, minus fees.

And shares in ETPMAG have jumped by about 87% since the start of the year, reaching $81.54 at the time of writing.

On the other hand, the ASX hosts numerous exploration companies advancing their respective silver projects and capitalising on the booming silver price.

Below we present four ASX mining stocks riding the silver boom in 2025.

Andean Silver Ltd (ASX: ASL)

Andean Silver is working to move its Cerro Bayo silver and gold project in Chile towards production.

So far, the company has defined a resource containing 47 million ounces of silver and 800,000 ounces of gold.

Its current activities are focused on growing the existing resource base through extension and exploration drilling.

Andean shares have surged by 149% since the start of the year, reaching $2.09 per share at the time of writing.

Unico Silver Ltd (ASX: USL)

Unico Silver is advancing two silver and gold projects in Argentina: Cerro Leon and Joaquin.

To date, the company has defined a resource containing 232 million ounces of silver equivalent for the two projects combined.

It aspires to lift this number beyond 300 million ounces through an ongoing exploration drilling campaign.

Unico shares have skyrocketed by 230% just this year, climbing to $0.66 per share at the time of writing.

Silver Mines Ltd (ASX: SVL)

Silver Mines is progressing its Bowden silver project in New South Wales closer to production.

The project already holds a resource containing 164 million ounces of silver.

An optimisation study completed late last year envisaged a 16.5 year mine life at Bowden, producing some 4.25 million ounces of silver per annum over the first ten years.

Management believes the mineralised system to be open at depth, with the project hosting considerable exploration upside potential.

Silver Mines shares have jumped by 169% since the start of the year to $0.22 per share at the time of writing.

Sun Silver Limited (ASX: SS1)

Sun Silver is advancing its Maverick Springs silver and gold project in Nevada.

Management believes Maverick Springs to be the largest undeveloped primary silver project on the ASX, with a resource containing 296 million ounces of silver.

Shares in Sun Silver haven ballooned by 109% so far this year, climbing to $1.34 each at the time of writing.

The fast-rising miner in question is Andean Silver Ltd (ASX: ASL).

In morning trade on Tuesday, Andean Silver shares are changing hands for $2.20 apiece, up 2.3%.

This sees the ASX All Ords silver share up 161.9% in 2025.

And investors who bought the stock two years ago (when the company was still called Mitre Mining) will be sitting on eye-watering gains of 746% today.

Andean Silver has been benefiting from both its own successes at its Cerro Bayo silver-gold project in southern Chile as well as the soaring gold and silver price.

The silver price has doubled since 1 January this year, currently trading for US$57.96 per ounce.

Now, here's what's grabbing ASX investor interest today.

ASX All Ords silver share lifts off on high-grade results

The Andean Silver share price is marching higher again today after the miner announced it has discovered more extensive vein systems with high-grade gold and silver mineralisation at Cerro Bayo epithermal silver-gold project.

The ASX All Ords silver share said the latest rock chip sampling results revealed more than two kilometres of exposed mineralised veins with grades of more than 10,000 grams of silver per tonne and 125g/t gold.

And there's a lot of promising area left to explore.

According to the release, a 750-metre corridor between the Taitao and Cristal prospects is still unmapped and untested by drilling.

And the silver miner noted that the corridor continues for 1.3 kilometres under shallow cover between the Droughtmaster and Guanaco mines, adding that geophysical anomalies indicate the potential for further prospective concealed and untested zones.

What did management say?

Commenting on the sample results boosting the ASX All Ords silver share today, Andean CEO Tim Laneyrie said, "These results again demonstrate that there is scope to grow the Cerro Bayo resources beyond current levels."

He said the upside "isn't just based on favourable geology or geophysics, it is underpinned by well-mineralised veins over extensive lengths with very high-grade silver and gold".

Looking ahead, Laneyrie added:

We have a long pipeline of these well-advanced prospects for exploration which have been identified by sampling and a thorough re-evaluation of the geological data at Cerro Bayo.

Our focus is on continuing to grow the resource, with a fleet of drill rigs on site, as we head into 2026. We will also ramp up drilling while advancing the mine study phase in the new year as part of a multi-pronged strategy to drive shareholder value.

2025 has been a stellar year for precious metals.

Most notably, the gold price ballooned by 47% since the start of the year to reach a new all-time high earlier this week.

But another metal is shining even brighter.

Since early January, the silver price has surged by a spectacular 65% to surpass US$47 per ounce – its highest level in more than 14 years.

Silver's performance has also eclipsed the broader All Ordinaries Index (ASX: XAO) which has risen by about 8% during the same period.

However, opportunities to capitalise on the silver price momentum are surprisingly limited on the ASX.

Let's find out why and present some options for investors to potentially consider.

The silver conundrum

Silver is typically mined in small quantities as a by-product or co-product to other metals like zinc, gold, or copper.

For example, the historical Broken Hill mines in New South Wales are polymetallic.

In other words, they have been producing zinc, lead, and silver as a basket of commodities since their famous discovery in 1883.

Similarly, most silver producers on the ASX today are also polymetallic.

So, unlike gold, there are no dedicated silver mining stocks in the ASX 200.

That said, one practical avenue for exposure to the metal is through the Global X Physical Silver Structured (ASX: ETPMAG) exchange-traded fund (ETF).

This ETF is designed to generate returns that mirror the silver price in Australian dollars, excluding fees.

And shares in ETPMAG have jumped by about 50% since the start of the year to $65.97 apiece at Friday's close.

However, the ASX also hosts several smaller exploration and mining companies looking to capitalise on the booming silver price.

And three such silver stocks have been running white hot in 2025.

Andean Silver Ltd (ASX: ASL)

Andean Silver is focused on bringing to life its wholly owned Cerro Bayo silver and gold project in Chile.

So far, the company has defined a resource containing 47 million ounces of silver and 800,000 ounces of gold.

Its current activities are centred on growing the existing resource base through extension and exploration drilling.

The company is also conducting economic evaluations gauging the merits of bringing Cerro Bayo to production.

Andean's share price has surged by 150% since the start of the year to $2.10 at the close of trading on Friday.

Sun Silver Limited (ASX: SS1)

Sun Silver is advancing its Maverick Springs silver and gold project in the US state of Nevada.

Management believes Maverick Springs is the largest undeveloped primary silver project on the ASX.

It holds a resource containing 296 million ounces of silver and 2.16 million ounces of gold.

Sun Silver is now looking to build on these numbers with an ongoing drilling campaign.

It is also conducting metallurgical testing and early-stage economic studies.

Shares in Sun Silver haven jumped by 72% so far this year to $1.10 apiece at Friday's close.

Polymetals Resources Ltd (ASX: POL)

In June, Polymetals recommenced production at its recently acquired Endeavor silver and zinc mine in New South Wales.

The mine was previously operational for nearly 40 years until its closure in 2019.

Today, Endeavor holds a resource containing 44 million ounces of silver, 1.3 million tonnes of zinc, as well as some lead credits.

Polymetals is now targeting early silver cashflow from the mine.

Here, the group is aiming to produce five million ounces of silver in the first two years of an initial ten-year operation.

It also seeks to grow at Endeavor's mine life through resource extension drilling and the discovery of new deposits nearby.

Shares in Polymetals have risen by 55% so far this year to $1.23 per share at the end of last week.
