    Founded in the US in 2009, the company began as a point-of-sale payments platform for small and medium-sized businesses.  Block now has several business segments including Cash App, a person-to-person payment network and web-hosting service Weebly.

    In January 2022, Block acquired Australian buy now, pay later company Afterpay. Afterpay continues to operate as a segment of Block.
