The All Ordinaries Index (ASX: XAO) has gained a tepid 1.67% over the past 12 months, but don't blame this rocketing ASX All Ords silver share.

The fast-rising miner in question is Unico Silver Ltd (ASX: USL).

Despite closing down 4.20% on Thursday to 68.5 cents a share as investors fretted over the renewed attacks in the Middle East, the Unico Silver share price remains up 163% since this time last year.

Part of that stellar performance has been spurred by the surging silver price.

On Thursday, silver was trading for US$73.42 an ounce. That sees the silver price up a whopping 112.8% since 4 June 2025.

And Unico Silver has hardly been sitting on its laurels over this time.

Here's why Medallion Financial Group's Philippe Bui expects the Aussie miner to keep outperforming in the months ahead (courtesy of The Bull).

Should I buy the ASX All Ords silver share today?

"This silver explorer is advancing high grade deposits in Argentina's Santa Cruz province," Bui said.

Bui sounded a bullish note on Unico Silver's recent update on its Joaquin project. He said:

The Joaquin project recently delivered a 143% resource increase to 167 million ounces of silver equivalent since acquiring it in October 2024. The latest update was achieved from just 27,723 metres of drilling at a discovery cost of 11 US cents per ounce.

Then there's the outlook for ongoing strength in global silver prices.

"Silver demand is structurally supported by solar, electrification and green technology, giving USL direct leverage to a rising commodity," Bui said.

Summarising his buy recommendation on the ASX All Ords silver share, Bui concluded, "With the resource growing rapidly and development progressing, the investment case is building."

What did Unico Silver management say on the Joaquin upgrade?

Unico Silver shares closed up 9.2% on 7 May following the company's Joaquin exploration update. Shares gained another 11.5% the following day.

Commenting on the strong results boosting the ASX All Ords silver share, Unico Silver managing director Todd Williams said:

We continue to see strong and consistent drilling results across the Joaquin district, with mineralisation now extending beyond the March 2026 Mineral Resource across multiple prospects.

At Breccia Puntudo, the latest results represent the highest grades recorded to date and reinforce the potential of this structure as a key source of high-grade feed for the upcoming PFS [pre-feasibility study].

Importantly, mineralisation remains open along the 3.5-kilometre trend, with clear upside through further definition of high-grade shoots.

Here's what they are saying about these stocks this week:

Arafura Rare Earths Ltd (ASX: ARU)

The team at Medallion Financial Group thinks Arafura Rare Earths is an ASX mining stock to hold.

While positive on its Nolans Project in the Northern Territory, it doesn't appear to see enough value in its shares to recommend it as a buy. It said:

The rare earths company is developing the Nolans Project in the Northern Territory — Australia's first fully integrated ore-to-oxide NdPr (Neodymium-Praseodymium) operation, producing the critical input for electric vehicle motors and wind turbines. With China controlling about 85 per cent of global processing and restricting exports, projects like Nolans are rare and strategically valuable. The company just reached its final investment decision and recently received commitments under an institutional placement to raise $350 million.

PLS Group Ltd (ASX: PLS)

Over at Catapult Wealth, it has named lithium giant PLS (formerly known as Pilbara Minerals) as a hold this week.

There is a lot to like about this ASX mining stock. However, it still isn't quite enough for Catapult Wealth to give it a more positive recommendation. It said:

PLS is an Australian lithium producer, with its primary operation in Western Australia. PLS has a solid balance sheet. Revenue of $624 million in the first half of 2026 was up 47 per cent on the prior corresponding period. Driving growth is a combination of increasing demand for lithium and near term supply constraints. Demand is fuelled by growing battery and electric vehicle adoption, which has been boosted by the conflict in Iran and crude oil disruptions. The strong balance sheet and free cash flow should enable PLS to fund its expansion plans.

Unico Silver Ltd (ASX: USL)

Medallion Financial Group is more positive on this silver developer and has named it as an ASX mining stock to buy this week.

It likes the company due to its growing resource and exposure to a rising commodity. It explains:

This silver explorer is advancing high grade deposits in Argentina's Santa Cruz province. The Joaquin project recently delivered a 143 per cent resource increase to 167 million ounces of silver equivalent since acquiring it in October 2024. The latest update was achieved from just 27,723 metres of drilling at a discovery cost of US11 cents per ounce. Silver demand is structurally supported by solar, electrification and green technology, giving USL direct leverage to a rising commodity. With the resource growing rapidly and development progressing, the investment case is building.

S&P/ASX 200 Index (ASX: XJO) mining shares are up sharply on Monday, with the materials sector the second-best performer of the 11 sectors.

Materials shares are up 1% amid BHP Group Ltd (ASX: BHP) setting a new all-time record at $62.95 per share today.

Australia is at the start of a new mining boom, with 5 key drivers behind a commodities super cycle underway today.

Several commodities have risen substantially over the past 12 months.

Gold has lifted 34%, silver has soared 117%, copper is 33% higher, iron ore is up 10%, and lithium has ripped 192%.

The new mining growth cycle became evident last year, with ASX 200 materials shares soaring 32%.

Let's take a look at three ASX mining shares with buy recommendations from the experts.

BHP Group Ltd (ASX: BHP)

The BHP share price is $62.75, up 0.7% today, and up 37% in the calendar year to date (YTD).

John Athanasiou from Red Leaf Securities has a buy rating on this ASX 200 copper and iron ore giant.

Athanasiou comments (courtesy The Bull):

Iron ore sales continue to drive earnings, but the key long term story is copper, where demand is structurally supported by electrification, grid investment and artificial intelligence related infrastructure.

Consequently, it gradually shifts BHP from a traditional cyclical miner towards a more diversified industrial metals compounder.

Cash generation remains strong, supporting consistent dividends and capital management. The balance sheet is conservative, allowing flexibility through the cycle.

While iron ore is still exposed to Chinese demand volatility, BHP's scale and low cost positioning provide downside protection.

Unico Silver Ltd (ASX: USL)

The Unico Silver share price is 62 cents, up 6% today, and down 29% YTD.

Philippe Bui from Medallion Financial Group has a buy rating on this ASX silver share.

Shaw and Partners gives Southern Cross Gold shares a buy rating with a 12-month price target of $14.40.

This implies a near-40% upside ahead.

Geological extension potential could extend mine life or importantly, allow a larger mining capacity.

Any project expansion returns could be supercharged by the remarkable ~9g/t AuEq site grade.

ASX silver stocks have lit up the market today.

During lunchtime, Silver Mines Ltd (ASX: SVL) and Andean Silver Ltd (ASX: ASL) have both surged more than 16%. Not far behind, Unico Silver Ltd (ASX: USL) has jumped nearly 13%.

So, what's driving the rally? It all comes down to one thing: the price of silver.

Silver price rebounds hard

The silver price has climbed around 4% today. That was enough to send ASX-listed silver stocks flying.

But the bigger story is volatility.

Silver has been on a powerful bull run over the past year, driven by tight supply and booming demand. Along the way, it's delivered big gains but not without sharp pullbacks.

In fact, prices have dropped about 16% over the past month. That rattled sentiment and dragged ASX silver stocks lower.

Now, we're seeing a bounce.

At the time of writing, silver is sitting around US$74.15 per ounce. That's roughly 120% higher than a year ago, a massive move.

And it explains why investors are piling back in.

What's fuelling demand?

Silver isn't just a precious metal. It's also an industrial powerhouse.

Demand is exploding across several fast-growing sectors. Solar panels are a major driver. Silver is a key component in photovoltaic cells.

Electric vehicles are another. They rely on silver for electrical systems and conductivity.

Then there's data centres. As global computing demand rises, so does the need for silver in electronics and infrastructure.

This combination — industrial demand plus investment demand — makes silver unique.

It behaves like both a growth metal and a safe haven. That's a powerful mix.

What's the outlook?

The big question: can silver keep climbing?

According to the London Bullion Market Association 2026 Precious Metals Forecast Survey, the average expected silver price for 2026 is US$79.57 per ounce. That's roughly a potential 7% upside from current price levels.

In other words, while the long-term outlook remains strong, some analysts think prices may cool in the near term after such a huge run.

Still, with supply constraints and structural demand in place, the broader trend remains positive.

What next for the ASX silver stocks?

Each of today's winners tells a similar story: big long-term gains, but recent weakness.

Silver Mines is up around 82% over the past 12 months. But it's still down about 18% year to date.

Andean Silver has climbed roughly 63% over the past year, yet has slipped 17% in 2026 so far.

Unico Silver has been the standout performer. The $350 million ASX silver stock has surged an incredible 158% over 12 months — but even it is down about 22% year to date.

That gap highlights just how volatile the sector is.

These stocks tend to amplify moves in the silver price. When silver rises, they often rise faster. When it falls, they can drop just as quickly.

Foolish Takeaway

Today's surge shows how quickly sentiment can shift in the silver space.

A modest 4% move in the underlying commodity was enough to spark double-digit gains in ASX stocks.

If silver continues higher, these names could keep running.

But buckle up — volatility is part of the ride.

The silver price remains 153% higher over the past 12 months, despite the recent sell-off, but can it go further this year?

According to the 2026 LBMA Precious Metals Forecast Survey, the average annual price expectation for 2026 is US$79.57 per ounce.

That's lower than the current silver price of US$82.50 per ounce, at the time of writing.

But remember, the US$79.57 is an average annual prediction.

Analysts expect the silver price to trade in a wide range week-to-week, month-to-month, over the next year.

Some analysts suggest the silver price could trade as high as US$160 per ounce at some point in 2026.

Tailwinds for silver

The tailwinds for the silver price include geopolitical risks, the debasement trade, and rising industrial usage due to the energy transition.

As a precious metal, silver is considered the 'poor cousin' of gold, but it's still seen as a safe-haven option, and it's cheaper, too.

That's why the silver price typically runs about the same time as the gold price, but with a lag.

When people want safe-haven investments, they turn to gold first. When gold gets expensive, they turn to silver.

That's why the silver price massively outpaced the gold price last year, lifting 147% versus 65%.

Precious metals have become more attractive to investors due to increased geopolitics risks and a weakening US dollar.

Silver is also an industrial metal that is experiencing higher demand than usual due to the energy transition.

It's a key input in solar panels, technological devices, electric vehicles, and data centres due to its superior conductivity to copper.

Meantime, supply is constrained because silver is typically only produced as a byproduct at copper, gold, lead, and zinc mines.

Limited supply amid growing demand prompted the US to add silver to its critical minerals list last November.

Analyst views on the silver price for 2026

Let's take a look at some of the predictions in the 2026 LBMA Precious Metals Forecast Survey.

Bruce Ikemizu from the Japan Bullion Market Association (JBMA) has one of the most ambitious price targets for the silver price.

JBMA is an industry body that oversees precious metals trading in Japan.

Ikemizu predicts that the silver price could trade as high as US$160 per ounce and as low as US$65 per ounce this year.

Interestingly, the silver price fell from a record US$121 per ounce on 29 January to a low of US$67 per ounce last week during the sell-off.

Ikemizu's average annual price prediction for the year is US$120 per ounce.

The analyst comments:

In addition to the political and fiscal conditions which apply to gold, silver has its own reasons to reach much higher levels: supply and demand.

It's been more than six years of supply shortages and finally we have seen an extreme move in the liquidity of silver in 2025 which could flare up any time again in 2026 as the lease rate remains at a much higher level than gold.

Political moves regarding silver, critical mineral status by the U.S. and export limitation by China add the fuel to the liquidity problem.

The liquidity problem is getting larger and that only leads to higher silver prices.

Julia Du of Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), which is the largest bank in the world by total asset value, also has an optimistic view on the silver price.

Du predicts the silver price may trade as high as US$150 per ounce, and as low as US$62 per ounce during intermittent pullbacks this year.

Her annual average tip is US$125 per ounce.

Du expects sharp fluctuations in the silver price ahead, with periods of profit-taking sending the price lower, as we've just recently seen.

She says:

I expect silver to deliver a bullish performance in 2026, supported by the same macro drivers as gold: persistent geopolitical tensions, strong safe-haven demand, and continued Fed rate cuts.

Silver's smaller market size and lower entry cost make it more volatile, attracting investors seeking alternatives to expensive gold.

Structural supply deficits – driven by robust photovoltaic and industrial demand – combined with rising jewellery and investment purchases, will amplify price swings.

Regional dislocations from potential U.S. tariffs could further tighten supply and fuel speculative spikes.

Caroline Bain from Bain Commodities has one of the more bearish outlooks on the silver price.

She tips the silver price to trade at a peak of US$85 per ounce and a trough of US$45 per ounce throughout the year.

Her average annual price prediction is US$63.50 per ounce.

Bain said:

The price of gold is expected to fall in the second half of 2026, and the silver price is likely to fall by more in percentage terms.

The smaller, less liquid, silver market typically overshoots on both the upside and downside.

That said, the price will hold up better than if the market were solely driven by its high-beta relationship with gold.

There is strong industrial demand for silver in key growth sectors including electronics, renewable energy, automotives and data centres, which will offer underlying support to prices.

China has also started restricting exports and the market is in a structural deficit. Physical stocks are low.

ASX silver shares are flying on Friday as the silver price nears US$100 per ounce.

At the time of writing, the silver price is 3.1% higher at US$99.10 per ounce, which is a new record.

Other precious metals are also soaring as investors digest new US data showing GDP growing at its fastest pace in two years.

The gold price rose 0.5% to reach a record US$4,958 per ounce in earlier trading. Gold is up 7.4% this week and 80% year over year.

Platinum is also up 3.3% today to a record US$2,661 per ounce. Platinum has risen 6.9% this week and is up 171% year over year.

Palladium is up 2.1% to $1,969 per ounce, and has lifted 5.2% this week and 98% year over year.

Why is the silver price charging higher?

Trading Economics analysts said investors were reassessing resilient US growth alongside signs that inflation remains contained.

US GDP increased at an annual rate of 4.4% in the third quarter of 2025, according to an updated estimate from the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA).

This compares to a second-quarter increase of 3.8% and a first-quarter decline of 0.6%.

The BEA said:

The acceleration in real GDP in the third quarter reflected upturns in investment, exports, and government spending, as well as an acceleration in consumer spending.

Imports decreased less in the third quarter than in the second.

Regarding the impact on the silver price, Trading Economics analysts said:

While the upward revision to Q3 GDP growth to 4.4% reinforced the view that the economy remains strong and reduced the urgency for near term policy easing, recent inflation data signaled steady disinflation rather than renewed overheating, helping stabilize expectations around future policy restraint.

That balance limited downside pressure from growth resilience and allowed silver to recover, even as easing geopolitical rhetoric around Greenland tempered immediate safe haven demand.

The analysts said silver continues to benefit from persistent supply constraints in a fourth consecutive year of global supply deficits.

Silver has increased relevance in the global economy today.

It's a key input in solar panels, tech devices, electric vehicles, and data centres due to its superior electrical conductivity to copper.

Like gold, silver and other precious metals are also seen as investment safe havens when global geopolitics and economics are uncertain.

So, let's take a closer look at the announcement.

What does Unico Silver do?

Unico Silver is a silver and gold explorer with projects in Argentina and Australia.

Its main focus is the Joaquin silver-gold project in Argentina, an advanced exploration asset with existing mineral resources. The company is working to expand those resources and advance the project towards development.

Drilling activity continues to ramp up

In its December 2025 quarterly update, Unico said it continued to increase drilling at the Joaquin project.

During the quarter, the company completed infill and extension drilling to better define the size and quality of the silver mineralisation. Early results pointed to wide zones of shallow mineralisation, which is seen as positive from a future mining perspective.

Unico also began additional technical work during the quarter, including metallurgical testing and geotechnical studies. These are key steps needed as the company works towards more detailed development studies.

A strong cash position

Just as importantly, Unico finished the quarter with a very strong cash balance, giving it plenty of funding to keep moving.

The company ended December with $66.7 million in cash, up from $28.9 million in the previous quarter. This followed a successful capital raising that brought in around $50 million before costs.

During the quarter, Unico spent $9.6 million on exploration and evaluation, reflecting the higher level of drilling and technical work underway.

With more than 6 quarters of funding available at current spending levels, the company appears well funded to continue drilling and advancing its projects without needing to raise more money in the near term.

Silver prices help set the backdrop

The broader market environment has also been supportive.

Silver prices have been strong recently, after hitting record highs this year before easing slightly. At the time of writing, silver is trading around US$93 per ounce, according to Trading Economics.

The rally has been driven by a mix of investor demand, expectations of lower interest rates, and silver's growing use in industrial applications such as solar panels and electronics.

What investors should keep in mind

Unico Silver is still an exploration company, which means it remains high risk. There are a number of things that can disappoint investors, such as drilling results, rising costs, or timelines being pushed back.

That said, today's update showed the company is well funded and making steady progress at a time when interest in silver is growing.

For investors who follow ASX small-cap resource stocks, Unico Silver is one to keep on the watchlist as drilling continues through 2026.

The gold price and silver price leapt to new record highs on Monday after the United States announced new tariffs.

The gold price lifted more than 1% to above US$4,670 per ounce, while the silver price spiked 4% to almost US$94 per ounce.

The previous record prices were $4,635.25 per ounce for gold and $92.34 per ounce for silver — both set last week.

Gold and silver prices jump amid flight to safety

Analysts at Trading Economics said investors were flocking to safe-haven assets after US President Donald Trump took his ambition to buy Greenland a step further.

Over the weekend, President Trump announced a 10% tariff on goods from eight European nations to punish their opposition to his aspirations to acquire Greenland.

The eight nations are Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, The Netherlands, and Finland.

On Truth Social, President Trump posted:

This Tariff will be due and payable until such time as a Deal is reached for the Complete and Total purchase of Greenland.

President Trump asserts that the US needs to own Greenland, which is an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, for security purposes.

The tariffs would start at 10% on 1 February and rise to 25% on 1 June.

The analysts said:

European leaders discussed potential retaliatory measures, including reviving last year's plan to levy tariffs on US goods, while French President Emmanuel Macron reportedly called on fellow leaders to activate the EU's anti-coercion instrument.

The US President's unpredictable nature has created global geopolitical and economic uncertainty since he came to office a year ago.

Uncertainty makes investors nervous, leading to more conservative investment choices, such as buying precious metals.

Of the gold price, the analysts said:

Bullion has already been on a strong upward trajectory this year following a robust performance in 2025, supported by political instability in Venezuela, renewed concerns over the Federal Reserve's independence, and expectations of more US interest rate cuts.

The silver price is rebounding after weakening a little when the US announced it would not put a tariff on critical minerals.

Silver was added to the US Critical Minerals list in November due to tight supply and demand.

Demand is rising because silver is a key input in solar panels, electric vehicles (EVs), and AI infrastructure like data centres.

Citi estimates that the solar industry alone is using 30% of annual silver production.

Tech device manufacturers also use silver to build circuits, connectors, and to solder metals in smartphones and laptops.

MineLife director Gavin Wendt recently published a research note on silver in which he pointed out that the precious metal has outperformed gold in recent times, "with prices swinging sharply as changing economic signals and evolving tariff policies influenced market sentiment''.

Mr Wendt said the strength in the silver price had been underpinned by a number of factors, including a persistent supply deficit, strong industrial demand from the solar industry, and renewed investment flows "as a cheaper alternative to gold''.

Mr Wendt said that uncertainty about whether the US would impose a tariff on silver had led to outflows of the metal from London to the US, resulting in a sharp decline in silver stocks in London, which is the primary trading hub.

Mr Wendt said:

There is … still the possibility of a tariff on silver, with the recent inclusion of the precious metal to the US Geological Survey list of critical minerals increasing the likelihood of US import tariffs.

Macro trends support strong prices

Mr Wendt said as we move further into 2026, silver would continue to be supported by improving investor sentiment towards precious metals "and tightening physical balances''.

He added:

From a macro perspective, silver should benefit from the same drivers expected to support gold – a softer US dollar, Federal Reserve rate cuts, and renewed appetite for safe-haven assets amid geopolitical concerns. Historically, silver has outperformed gold during easing cycles, as lower real yields tend to lift both investor allocation and industrial activity.

Mr Wendt said a key difference to gold was that industrial demand accounted for more than half of total silver consumption.

Demand for solar is likely to slow, particularly in China after a few strong years, however additional demand tailwinds come from electrification, power grid upgrades, and growing use of silver in automotive components, especially in hybrid and battery electric vehicles.

Mr Wendt said silver can "massively outperform gold in a bull market", but it can also fall harder in a downturn, and he expected price volatility to continue this year.

Four ASX shares that are rising more than most today are listed below. Here's why they are storming higher:

Canyon Resources Ltd (ASX: CAY)

The Canyon Resources share price is up 9% to 24 cents. This follows the release of an update on the Minim Martap Bauxite Project in Cameroon. According to the release, the surface miner has arrived in Cameroon, with mining operations scheduled to commence in February. Canyon's CEO, Peter Secker, commented: "Following the arrival of the surface miner in Cameroon as well as confirmation of the delivery of the Rolling Stock scheduled in Q1, the key operational milestones continue to be achieved across mining, logistics and infrastructure workstreams. Project readiness continues to be strengthened, with key senior leadership appointments now completed. The Mine Director and Port Manager roles have been filled, with both executives scheduled to be on the ground this month to support the ramp-up to first production."

Core Lithium Ltd (ASX: CXO)

The Core Lithium share price is up 22% to 35.5 cents. This is despite there being no news out of the lithium company. The gain was so strong that the Australian stock exchange asked for it to explain the move. Core Lithium responded, stating that it "is not aware of any other explanation that it may have for the recent trading in its securities." Though, with lithium prices rebounding strongly recently, investors may be betting on the company restarting its lithium mining operations in the near future.

Duratec Ltd (ASX: DUR)

The Duratec share price is up 9% to $2.03. This morning, the contractor revealed that its Duratec Ertech Joint Venture has been instructed to proceed with early procurement of approximately $5 million of long lead items. This is to assist program and project timing as part of the early contractor involvement head contract for the planning phase of infrastructure upgrades to support future submarine capability at HMAS Stirling. Managing Director, Chris Oates, commented: "Duratec is proud to play a key role in supporting Australia's future submarine capability through these critical infrastructure upgrades at HMAS Stirling."

Unico Silver Ltd (ASX: USL)

The Unico Silver share price is up 3.5% to 98.5 cents. This silver miner's shares have rallied higher this week following the release of drilling results from its 100%-owned Joaquin Project. Unico Silver revealed that infill and extensional drilling at La Negra SE confirms that there is a broad, shallow zone of oxide silver-gold mineralisation over 850 metres strike and 175 metres vertical extent. Importantly, it remains open to the south-east and at depth. The company's managing director, Todd Williams, commented: "These results confirm the scale and geometry required for conventional open-pit development and support our decision to move directly to a Pre-Feasibility Study Mineral Resource Estimate."

At the time of writing, the benchmark index is up 0.3% to 8,709.9 points.

Four ASX shares that are rising more than most today are listed below. Here's why they are pushing higher:

4DMedical Ltd (ASX: 4DX)

The 4DMedical share price is up 13% to $4.75. This morning, this respiratory imaging technology provider announced that UC San Diego Health has entered into a commercial arrangement for the clinical use of CT:VQ. It notes that UC San Diego Health is one of the United States' leading academic health systems and has consistently ranked in the top 10 for Pulmonology & Lung Surgery. It has commenced clinical use of CT:VQ under a structured launch framework, whereby introductory pricing will apply through March 31. 4DMedical's CEO and founder, Andreas Fouras, said: "UCSD is consistently ranked in the top 10 for pulmonology & lung surgery and is home to a world-class cardiothoracic imaging program. Their adoption of CT:VQ represents another powerful validation of our technology and our strategic approach to commercialisation."

Regis Resources Ltd (ASX: RRL)

The Regis Resources share price is up 1.5% to $7.61. Investors have been buying this gold miner's shares following the release of a production update. Regis Resources reported total group gold production of 96,600 ounces. This brought its total group gold production for the first half to 186,900 ounces. And thanks to the sky-high gold price, Regis Resources achieved a record cash and bullion build of $255 million. This resulted in a record cash and bullion balance of $930 million.

Unico Silver Ltd (ASX: USL)

The Unico Silver share price is up 4% to 94 cents. This has been driven by the release of drilling results from the silver miner's 100%-owned Joaquin Project this morning.
WiseTech Global Ltd (ASX: WTC)

The WiseTech Global share price is up almost 3% to $67.34. This may have been caused by a broker note out of Jefferies. The broker is feeling positive about the logistics solutions technology company's outlook due to its belief that it won't be disrupted by AI competition. This is due to the complexity of the logistics industry.

In morning trade, the ASX silver stock is up 9% to a record high of 99 cents.

This means its shares are now up almost 400% over the past 12 months.

Why is this ASX silver stock hitting a new record high?

Investors have been fighting to get hold of the silver miner's shares following the release of a drilling update from the 100%-owned Joaquin Project in Santa Cruz, Argentina.

According to the release, Unico Silver has released assay results for a further 31 drill holes totalling 4,478 metres of drilling. This brings total reported assays since drilling commenced in September to 91 holes covering 14,594 metres.

The ASX silver stock highlights that this forms part of a 30,000 metre drill program. It is focused on regional exploration and new discoveries, and the delineation of high-confidence, pit-constrained, free-milling silver ounces at Joaquin.

Drilling results

As you might have guessed from the investor reaction, the results from this latest drilling were positive.

The company notes that infill and extensional drilling at La Negra SE confirms that there is a broad, shallow zone of oxide silver-gold mineralisation over 850 metres strike and 175 metres vertical extent. It remains open to the south-east and at depth.

Positively, the true thickness ranges from 15 metres to 75 metres, which is supportive of bulk open pit mining potential.

What's next?

It shouldn't be long until there are more results to run the rule over. Drilling resumed on 5 January and includes three diamond rigs and one reverse circulation (RC) rig. At La Negra SE, infill drilling on a 50 metres by 25 metres grid is nearing completion with eight holes remaining to support a high confidence indicated resource.

Based on timing and new results, the ASX silver stock advised that it will proceed directly to a pre-feasibility study (PFS)-level mineral resource estimate (MRE), covering La Negra, La Negra SE, and La Morocha.

The company's managing director, Todd Williams, was pleased with the news. He said:

Infill drilling at La Negra SE continues to deliver wide, shallow zones of oxide silver-gold mineralisation with excellent continuity across the full 850-metre strike length. These results confirm the scale and geometry required for conventional open-pit development and support our decision to move directly to a Pre-Feasibility Study Mineral Resource Estimate.

With infill drilling nearing completion, geotechnical and comminution programs already underway, and three key prospects – La Negra, La Negra SE and La Morocha – advancing to Indicated Resource status, Joaquin is rapidly transitioning from exploration to development while remaining open to further growth.

Four ASX shares that are falling more than most today are listed below. Here's why they are dropping:

Evolution Mining Ltd (ASX: EVN)

The Evolution Mining share price is down 4% to $12.48. Investors have been selling this gold miner's shares following a sharp pullback in the gold price overnight. This appears to have been driven by traders taking profit after the precious metal rose strongly and hit a new record high. It isn't just Evolution Mining that is falling this afternoon. At the time of writing, the S&P/ASX All Ordinaries Gold index is down by a disappointing 2.75%.

Firefly Metals Ltd (ASX: FFM)

The Firefly Metals share price is down 4% to $2.04. This has been driven by weakness in the gold industry and news the emerging gold miner has doubled the size of its recently announced share purchase plan (SPP) to $10 million. This decision was made following "extremely strong demand for the SPP and reflects the Company's commitment to its supportive retail shareholders." FireFly's managing director, Steve Parsons, said: "We are delighted to have received such strong demand for the SPP. This reflects the outstanding upside at Green Bay and our aggressive strategy to continue creating value by using nine rigs. We have taken the opportunity to reward our loyal retail shareholders by doubling the total SPP provision to A$10m, increasing their ability to secure further exposure to this growth potential."

Unico Silver Ltd (ASX: USL)

The Unico Silver share price is down 6% to 85.5 cents. Investors have been selling this silver miner's shares following a drop in the silver price overnight. The precious metal tumbled 8% on Monday night to US$72.27 per ounce. This also appears to have been driven by profit taking from traders following a big gain in 2025.

Weebit Nano Ltd (ASX: WBT)

The Weebit Nano share price is down almost 10% to $5.24. This may have been caused by profit taking from some investors after a very strong gain on Monday. Investors were buying the semiconductor company's shares after it revealed that it signed a licensing agreement for its ReRAM technology with Texas Instruments (NASDAQ:TXN). The company's CEO, Coby Hanoch, said: "This agreement is another strong signal that the industry is moving towards ReRAM as the successor to flash memory in SoC designs." Weebit Nano also released revenue guidance for FY 2026, revealing that it expects revenue of at least $10 million.

On the heels of a stellar year, ASX silver stocks are taking a beating on the last full trading day of 2025.

In late morning trade on Tuesday the S&P/ASX All Ordinaries Index (ASX: XAO) is up 0.2%.

But you're unlikely to find any of the Aussie silver miners in the green today.

Here's how these top ASX silver stocks are tracking at time of writing:

Silver Mines Ltd (ASX: SVL) shares are down 4.4% at 21.5 cents

Investigator Silver Ltd (ASX: IVR) shares are down 6.7% at 14.0 cents

Sun Silver Ltd (ASX: SS1) shares are down 4.7% at $1.925

Unico Silver Ltd (ASX: USL) shares are down 7.7% at 84.0 cents

South32 Limited (ASX: S32) shares are down 2.8% at $3.49. (South 32 has significant silver exposure from its Cannington silver mine.)

Now, despite today's losses, you shouldn't feel too sorry for stockholders of the above companies.

That's because the silver price hit new record highs of US$80 per ounce last week, putting the precious metal up 176% over 12 months.

And that's helped send the Aussie silver miners soaring.

Here's how these same ASX silver stocks have performed over the past full year, inclusive of today's intraday slide:

Silver Mines shares are up 165.0%

Investigator Silver shares are up 600.0%

Sun Silver shares are up 193.9%

Unico Silver shares are up 322.5%

South 32 shares are up 2.9% (reflecting its more diverse mining operations)

Here's what's happening today.

ASX silver stocks flattened on silver sell-down

After the historic rally to US$80 per ounce last week, the silver price tumbled 8% overnight to currently be trading for US$72.27 per ounce.

But that sell-off shouldn't have come as any great surprise.

Matt Maley, chief market strategist at Miller Tabak + Co said that precious metals (the record setting gold price also has slipped more than 4%) "had become quite overbought on a short-term basis, so the fact that they're seeing some outsized declines this morning is not the end of the world at all".

Commenting on the pullback in international mining stocks, Maley added (quoted by Bloomberg), "We believe that any weakness in these names over the next week or two should create another good buying opportunity."

David Meger, director of metals trading at High Ridge Futures noted (quoted by Reuters), "All the metals moved up to recent and all-time highs. We are seeing profit-taking pullbacks off of those spectacularly high levels."

But ASX silver stocks could keep shining bright in 2026.

"I believe that the underlying fundamentals of (silver) supply constraints remain factors in the market and we still have positive prospects going into 2026," Meger concluded.

Silver hit an all-time high this week after bulldozing its way through US$80 per ounce.

Remarkably, the price of the metal has now surged by nearly to 190% since the start of the year.

It has also handsomely outperformed gold.

For comparison, the gold price has delivered strong gains of its own, climbing by approximately 73% in 2025.

Not surprisingly, both metals have left the broader market firmly in their wake.

For context, the S&P/ASX All Ordinaries Index (ASX: XAO) has risen by about 6.8% during the same timeframe.

Despite this powerful rally, investors seeking exposure to silver have a limited number of ASX mining stocks to consider.

The silver conundrum for investors in ASX mining stocks

In essence, there are no dedicated silver mining stocks in the ASX 200.

This is a major difference to gold which offers a string of options.

These include ASX 200 stalwarts like Northern Star Resources Ltd (ASX: NST), Newmont Corporation CDI (ASX: NEM), and Evolution Mining Ltd (ASX: EVN).

However, one of the few practical choices for exposure to silver is the Global X Physical Silver Structured (ASX: ETPMAG) exchange-traded fund (ETF).

This ASX ETF is designed to generate returns that mirror the silver price in Australian dollars, minus fees and expenses.

Overall, shares in this ASX ETF are up by 145% since the start of the year, trading at $107.00 each at the time of writing.

However, the ASX is also home to several exploration companies moving their silver projects towards production.

Below, we introduce three little-known ASX mining stocks advancing their respective projects and riding this year's silver price explosion.

Andean Silver Ltd (ASX: ASL)

Andean Silver is progressing its Cerro Bayo silver and gold project in Chile towards mining.

So far, the ASX mining stock has defined a resource containing 47 million ounces of silver and 800,000 ounces of gold.

Current work is focused on expanding the resource through extension and exploration drilling, with recent results hinting at the project's upside potential.

Earlier this month, the company reported "outstanding" silver and gold intersections at Cerro Bayo, extending the known mineralisation beyond the current resource.

Since the start of the year, Andean shares have surged by 207% to reach $2.58 per share at the time of writing.

Sun Silver Limited (ASX: SS1)

Sun Silver is advancing its Maverick Springs silver and gold project in the US state of Nevada.

The ASX mining stock believes Maverick Springs is the largest undeveloped primary silver project on the ASX.

It hosts a resource containing 347 million ounces of silver and 2.2 million ounces of gold.

Management also noted that the mineralised system at Maverick Springs remains open in all directions, potentially paving the way for further growth.

Shares in Sun Silver haven rocketed by 210% so far this year, climbing to $1.99 apiece at the time of writing.

Unico Silver Ltd (ASX: USL)

Unico Silver is progressing two silver and gold projects in Argentina: Cerro Leon and Joaquin.

So far, it has defined a resource containing 232 million ounces of silver equivalent across both projects.

However, the ASX mining stock aims to grow this number beyond 300 million ounces through an ongoing exploration drilling campaign.

Its efforts will likely be aided by a significant cash injection announced last month.

In a nutshell, Unico pocketed $50 million from an institutional placement and share purchase plan to fast-track its growth strategy.

At the time of writing, shares in this ASX mining stock are changing hands at $0.90 per share.

They have now rocketed by 350% since the start of the year.

The price of silver has broken the US$60 per ounce mark for the first time, sending the share price of Australian silver companies soaring.

The Australian was reporting on Wednesday morning that the price of silver futures closed up 4.1% in overnight trading to US$60.17, with the price more than doubling over the past year.

Among Australian shares, Andean Silver Ltd (ASX: ASL) was 14.9% higher at $2.15, Silver Mines Ltd (ASX: SVL) was 5.3% higher at 20 cents, and Mithril Silver and Gold Ltd (ASX: MTH) was 5.2% higher at 51 cents.

Shares in Unico Silver Ltd (ASX: USL) were also sharply higher at 67.5 cents, up 10.7%.

Support looking strong

Minelife analyst Gavin Wendt said in a note to clients in recent days that silver has had a strong couple of weeks, with strong inflows into exchange-traded funds adding more impetus to the price rally.

As he said:

Total additions to silver-backed exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in the four days through Thursday were already the highest for any full week since July, a strong indicator of investor appetite despite signals silver's gains may be overdone.

Mr Wendt said on a fundamental basis, the support for silver would remain strong.

Silver prices have roughly doubled this year, outpacing a 60% rise in gold. The rally has accelerated in the last two months, in part thanks to a historic squeeze in London. While that crunch has eased in recent weeks as more metal was shipped to the world's biggest silver trading hub, other markets are now seeing supply constraints. Chinese inventories are near their lowest in a decade.

Rates move a positive

Mr Wendt said speculation that US interest rates would be heading lower was also a positive for silver, as a lower interest rate environment tended to support the prices of precious metals.

He also said Citigroup analysts were predicting possible further gains.

Silver could rise to US$62 an ounce in the coming three months 'on the back of Fed cuts, robust investment demand, and physical deficit,' Citigroup Inc. analysts including Max Layton wrote in a note.

Mr Wendt said global demand for silver, which was used in a wide variety of industrial processes, had outstripped output from mines for the past five years.

Not just valued as an investment asset, silver also has many useful real-world properties that make it a component in a range of products, such as circuit boards, solar panels and coatings for medical devices.

The silver price hit a new all-time high this week, breaking above US$58 per ounce for the first time in history.

The metal has now surged by 102% this year, leaving the broader market in its wake.

As a comparison, the S&P/ASX All Ordinaries Index (ASX: XAO) has risen by about 5% during the same period.

Not only that, but silver's record-breaking rally has even eclipsed gold's impressive run in 2025.

All up, the gold price has lifted by about 60% since the start of the year.

However, investors looking for silver exposure on the ASX face a more limited set of options than they do with gold.

The silver difference

The rocketing gold price has seen some of the leading ASX 200 gold stocks storm higher during the year.

For example, shares in the world's largest gold miner, Newmont Corporation CDI (ASX: NEM), have lifted by about 124% since early January to $137.22 each at the time of writing.

Fellow ASX mining stock Evolution Mining Ltd (ASX: EVN) has fared even better, with its share price jumping by 147% in the same timeframe to $11.97 per share.

Unlike gold, however, there are no dedicated silver mining stocks within the ASX 200.

That said, one practical avenue for exposure to the metal is through the Global X Physical Silver Structured (ASX: ETPMAG) exchange-traded fund (ETF).

This ETF is designed to generate returns that mirror the silver price in Australian dollars, minus fees.

And shares in ETPMAG have jumped by about 87% since the start of the year, reaching $81.54 at the time of writing.

On the other hand, the ASX hosts numerous exploration companies advancing their respective silver projects and capitalising on the booming silver price.

Below we present four ASX mining stocks riding the silver boom in 2025.

Andean Silver Ltd (ASX: ASL)

Andean Silver is working to move its Cerro Bayo silver and gold project in Chile towards production.

So far, the company has defined a resource containing 47 million ounces of silver and 800,000 ounces of gold.

Its current activities are focused on growing the existing resource base through extension and exploration drilling.

Andean shares have surged by 149% since the start of the year, reaching $2.09 per share at the time of writing.

Unico Silver Ltd (ASX: USL)

Unico Silver is advancing two silver and gold projects in Argentina: Cerro Leon and Joaquin.

To date, the company has defined a resource containing 232 million ounces of silver equivalent for the two projects combined.

It aspires to lift this number beyond 300 million ounces through an ongoing exploration drilling campaign.

Unico shares have skyrocketed by 230% just this year, climbing to $0.66 per share at the time of writing.

Silver Mines Ltd (ASX: SVL)

Silver Mines is progressing its Bowden silver project in New South Wales closer to production.

The project already holds a resource containing 164 million ounces of silver.

An optimisation study completed late last year envisaged a 16.5 year mine life at Bowden, producing some 4.25 million ounces of silver per annum over the first ten years.

Management believes the mineralised system to be open at depth, with the project hosting considerable exploration upside potential.

Silver Mines shares have jumped by 169% since the start of the year to $0.22 per share at the time of writing.

Sun Silver Limited (ASX: SS1)

Sun Silver is advancing its Maverick Springs silver and gold project in Nevada.

Management believes Maverick Springs to be the largest undeveloped primary silver project on the ASX, with a resource containing 296 million ounces of silver.

Shares in Sun Silver haven ballooned by 109% so far this year, climbing to $1.34 each at the time of writing.

The S&P/ASX 200 Index (ASX: XJO) is having a poor start to the week. In afternoon trade, the benchmark index is down 0.3% to 8,586.4 points.

Four ASX shares that are not letting that hold them back are listed below. Here's why they are climbing:

Domino's Pizza Enterprises Ltd (ASX: DMP)

The Domino's share price is up over 2.5% to $21.93. This is despite there being no news out of the pizza chain operator on Monday. However, with its performance improving and speculation of a takeover by private equity, its shares have been pushing higher in recent weeks. The team at Morgans would be supportive of this buying. The broker recently put a buy rating and $25.00 price target on Domino's shares.

Greatland Resources Ltd (ASX: GGP)

The Greatland Resources share price is up 11% to $8.41. This has been driven by the release of the gold miner's feasibility study for its Havieron project. The release notes that its study confirms a pathway to a world-class, long-life, lowest quartile cost Australian gold-copper mine, leveraging existing infrastructure. Greatland's managing director, Shaun Day, commented: "Today, we are delighted to deliver our Feasibility Study which confirms Havieron's world-class quality and sets the pathway for its development into a long-life, low cost, leading Australian gold-copper mine that will integrate efficiently with the existing infrastructure at Telfer."

Nextdc Ltd (ASX: NXT)

The Nextdc share price is up 1.5% to $13.80. Investors have been buying this data centre operator's shares following the release of a trading update. Following recent customer contract wins, NextDC's pro forma contracted utilisation has increased by 71MW or 29% since 30 June to 316MW. This means that NextDC's pro-forma forward order book has increased by 53% to 205MW since 30 June. The company's forward order book is expected to progressively convert to billings and revenue between now and FY 2029.

Unico Silver Ltd (ASX: USL)

The Unico Silver share price is up 17% to 69 cents. This appears to have been driven by news that the silver price has reached a record high. This bodes well for Unico Silver's 100%-owned Joaquin Project in Santa Cruz, Argentina. The company recently released drilling results which revealed exceptional high-grade silver gold intercepts at three prospects. This latest gain by the devil's metal means that it has now risen over 70% since the start of the year.
