About Orica Ltd (ASX: ORI)
Orica Ltd (ASX:ORI) is an Australian-based, multinational company that primarily provides commercial blasting and tunnelling solutions. It manufactures and distributes a wide variety of explosives and blasting chemicals and products to the mining, energy and infrastructure sectors.
In addition to being one of the world’s largest suppliers of commercial explosives, Orica provides specialist ground support services across mining and tunnelling projects. The company also specialises in the production of nitrogen fertilisers for the agriculture industry.
With its head office in Melbourne, Orica’s global operations span four key regions which are Australia and Asia Pacific, North America, Latin America and Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Its markets include surface metal, surface coal, underground mining, oil and gas, construction, and quarrying.
Founded in 1874, Orica was an original supplier of explosives during the Victorian gold rush. Today, the company employs around 11,500 people globally and services clients across more than 100 countries. Throughout its history, Orica has undertaken many acquisitions enabling it to considerably expand its product offering and geographic market penetration.
The rising Orica share price has seen it become a multi-billion-dollar company which is part of the top 50 companies on the ASX by market capitalisation.
