CSR Limited (CSR) is a building products company that provides a range of products for residential and commercial construction across Australia and New Zealand. CSR is behind several leading brands including Gyprock plasterboard, Bradford insulation, and Monier roof tiles. The company also has an interest in the Tomago aluminium smelter, one of Australasia’s largest aluminium smelters.

The company was founded in the mid-1800s as the Colonial Sugar Refining Company – hence the name CSR. The company went on to diversify its operations into building products and eventually sold off its sugar business in 2009.

CSR’s history on the ASX dates all the way back to 1962. As a supplier of building products, the CSR share price can be linked to the state of the residential and commercial construction markets in Australia and New Zealand.

Will CSR pay a dividend in 2020?

CSR has paid twice yearly dividends every year since 1990 as well as issuing periodic special dividends. The company’s dividends vary between unfranked, partially franked and fully franked and are typically paid in July and December each year. CSR has also executed a number of share buybacks over the past 15 years. In December 2019, CSR paid an interim dividend of 10 cents as well as a special dividend of 4 cents per share. Both were 50% franked. In an address to shareholders on 24 June 2020, CSR announced that, due to economic uncertainty surrounding COVID-19, it would not be paying its FY2020 final dividend and would also be pausing the current share buyback.

Does CSR offer a DRP?

Yes. CSR offers shareholders residing in Australia and New Zealand the option of full or partial participation in its dividend reinvestment plan. As at June 2020, there is no minimum number of shares required to participate in the plan. CSR’s DRP will not be in operation for the full year ended 31 March 2020 since no final dividend was paid.
