Vanadium is a malleable, corrosion-resistant metal used in steel alloys, nuclear reactors, and space vehicles. It can also be used in the cathodes of batteries in electric vehicles.
It is found in about 65 minerals, including magnetite, vanadinite, carnotite, and patronite, and can also be found in phosphate rock and some crude oils.
Vanadium has been listed as a critical mineral by the Australian government.

About Australian Vanadium Ltd
Perth-based Australian Vanadium Ltd (ASX: AVL) is involved in the exploration of the critical mineral vanadium.
Vanadium is primarily used to produce stronger, more heat-resistant steel. It is also found in nuclear reactors and modern batteries.
AVL is mainly focused on the Australian Vanadium Project in Western Australia, with the aim of supplying high-grade vanadium to the global steel and energy storage markets.
It is also involved in the vanadium redox flow battery market through its 100%-owned subsidiary VSUN Energy.
The Australian Vanadium Ltd share price has slumped since the company was listed on the ASX in 2007, falling from 62 cents to around 3 cents in November 2022.
