While the majority of investors will be familiar with tech shares such as Aconex Ltd (ASX: ACX) and Altium Limited (ASX: ALU), I expect only a handful will know these exciting small-cap tech shares.

Here's why I think they are worth becoming better acquainted with:

Buddy Platform Ltd (ASX: BUD)

This Internet of Things company made a great deal of progress last year, signing key reseller and distribution agreements with leading players. The key product in its portfolio in my opinion is its Buddy Ohm device. It can help provide new insights for operators and tenants to monitor critical systems and drive down monthly resource spending. Industry standard sensors track temperature, humidity, electricity, gas, water, and steam consumption, and solar power generation.

LiveHire Ltd (ASX: LVH)

This talent technology company's recruitment platform allows its users to create a pool of pre-qualified job candidates that they can access when they need to recruit. This ultimately saves recruiters both time and money. While cash receipts are growing strongly, they are still not huge. However, there could be plenty of room for growth in the future. Management estimates that its addressable market is worth $20 billion per annum.

Livetiles Ltd (ASX: LVT)

This exciting digital workplace platform provider has been making great strides in its quest to become a leading company in the massive artificial intelligence market. It recently announced agreements with Microsoft and Clean Energy Smart Manufacturing Innovation Institute (CESMII). The Microsoft agreement will see the tech giant promote LiveTiles Bots as a solution that demystifies AI technology to business customers using its Azure platform. The partnership with CESMII will focus on promoting efficiency, growth, and competitiveness in the US$2.2 trillion US manufacturing industry using LiveTiles' artificial intelligence technology.
