ASX 200 to rise on Monday: 9 shares you need to watch today

Earnings season continues today with the S&P/ASX 200 (Index: ^AXJO) (ASX: XJO) expected to rise 10 points when the opening bell rings.

Here's a quick recap:

  • FTSE 100 (UK): up 0.4%
  • DAX (Germany): up 0.21%
  • CAC 40 (France): up 0.04%
  • Dow Jones (USA): up 0.48%
  • NASDAQ (USA): up 0.33%

JB Hi-Fi Limited (ASX: JBH), Amcor Limited (ASX: AMC) and Praemium Ltd (ASX: PPS) are among the companies that have reported their periodic earnings results so far this morning.

Retail giant JB Hi-Fi announced a 23.6% rise in sales and a 31.7% increase in underlying net profit after tax (NPAT) to $125.4 million. Comparable sales rose 8.7% through its Australian stores while trading at its newly acquired 'The Good Guys' stores are also said to have improved since December.

Meanwhile, Amcor reported a 6.2% decline in earnings off the back of a 1.8% drop in revenue. And Praemium reported a 23% rise in first-half revenue and a 39% increase in earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation, or EBITDA.

Revenue rose 1% for Aurizon Holdings Ltd (ASX: AZJ) as well, with underlying net profit rising 18%. Earnings per share gained 21%.

Cover-More Group Ltd (ASX: CVO) also reported a 7.2% increase in revenue and a 5.5% increase in earnings.

Elsewhere, Domino's Pizza Enterprises Ltd. (ASX: DMP) reiterated its 'zero tolerance approach' to its franchisees underpaying employees. It said "There is no reason, no excuse, and no tolerance for any Domino's franchise that chooses not to pay its employees correctly or fails to meet expectations around ethics and governance."

The miners will likely be in focus again today, as well. According to the Metal Bulletin, the iron ore price soared another 3.3% which will likely bolster shares such as Rio Tinto Limited (ASX: RIO) and Fortescue Metals Group Limited (ASX: FMG). BHP Billiton Limited (ASX: BHP) will likely benefit too, particularly with the oil price rising around 2% as well.
