    About QBE Insurance

QBE Insurance Group Ltd (ASX: QBE) was first established as the North Queensland Insurance Company (QI) in 1886 by two shipping business partners in Queensland. The pair also set up the Bankers’ and Traders’ Insurance Company (B&T) in the 1920s and expanded into Asia, the United States, Canada and Egypt.

The companies merged with the Equitable Probate and General Insurance Company in 1973 to become QBE, in what was regarded at the time as one of the biggest corporate mergers in Australian history. It was at that time, QBE Australia listed on the ASX and became a division of QBE Group.

Now Australia’s second-largest international insurer, QBE provides a broad range of insurance products across personal, business, corporate, and institutional markets, and is involved in insurance underwriting and reinsurance. With its headquarters in Sydney, QBE has a local presence in 27 countries.
