About Argo Investments Limited
Argo Investments Limited (ASX: ARG) is a listed investment company (LIC) headquartered Adelaide, South Australia. The company has created a diversified portfolio of around 100 ASX listed companies. According to Argo, it maintains a conservative investment style, with more than 60% of the value of its portfolio comprised of the 20 largest, blue chip holdings.
As at October 2020, Argo Investments has a market capitalisation of around $5.5 billion placing it within the S&P/ASX 100 Index (ASX: XTO). The LIC aims to provide shareholders with long-term growth as well as reliable dividend income. The company primarily generates revenue through harvesting the dividends received from the holdings within its portfolio. The bulk of the profit generated by Argo is then paid to its shareholders in the form of fully franked dividends.
The LIC also manages Argo Global Listed Infrastructure Ltd (ASX: ALI) which provides investors with the opportunity to invest in listed securities within the global infrastructure sector. Some of the fund’s holdings include international airports, roads, utilities, and satellites.
Argo Investments was established in 1946 and first listed on the ASX in 1963. Over the course of the company’s history, it has made a number of acquisitions. The Argo share price was hit hard by the February/March 2020 crash, falling nearly 40% in a little over one month. The company’s shares did, however, rebound strongly and went on the recover much of those losses.
