Afterpay Ltd (ASX: APT) is an Australian technology company that makes up one of the ASX’s sought-after WAAAX tech stocks.
A pioneer of buy now, pay later technology, Afterpay delivers an innovative payment platform that enables consumers to purchase and receive goods and spread the cost of their purchase out over equal payments, without having to pay interest.
Founded in 2015 and listed in 2017, the Afterpay share price has skyrocketed in the ensuing years. The company is Australia's leading BNPL provider and has a strong presence in the United States and United Kingdom markets.
A major gamechanger came in August 2021 when Afterpay announced plans for US fintech Square Inc (NYSE: SQ) to buy it out.
