In afternoon trade, the S&P/ASX 200 Index (ASX: XJO) is on course to end the week in the red. At the time of writing, the benchmark index is down 0.35% to 8,923.1 points.

Four ASX shares that are falling more than most on Friday are listed below. Here's why they are ending the week in the red:

Dateline Resources Ltd (ASX: DTR)

The Dateline Resources share price is down 11% to 32.5 cents. This follows media reports about legal proceedings in the United States. The company notes that the proceedings relate "to the exercise of the long standing valid existing rights to conduct mining activities at the Colosseum Gold and Rare Earths Project." The company stated: "Dateline considers that the reporting and the position advanced by the applicants, as described, do not fully reflect the relevant historical context, including the status of valid existing rights associated with the Colosseum Gold and Rare Earths Project, and the Company does not agree with the assumptions made."

Northern Star Resources Ltd (ASX: NST)

The Northern Star share price is down 2.5% to $23.73. Investors have been selling Northern Star shares despite there being no news out of it. However, it is worth noting that most ASX gold stocks are falling today. This has seen the S&P/ASX All Ordinaries Gold index drop 2.2% in afternoon trade.

Rox Resources Ltd (ASX: RXL)

The Rox Resources share price is down 5% to 44.7 cents. This morning, this gold developer released its quarterly update. For the quarter, the company recorded a cash outflow of $31.9 million. However, it finished the period with a hefty cash balance of $200.4 million. Management also advised that it is taking steps to protect itself from the impacts of the war in the Middle East. This includes an increase in fuel storage capacity at Youanmi. It has increased its fuel storage from 190kL in March to over 430kL in mid-April. An additional fuel supply contract has been entered into.

Wesfarmers Ltd (ASX: WES)

The Wesfarmers share price is down 1.5% to $72.88. This may have been driven by a broker note out of Citi this morning. According to the note, the broker has downgraded the Bunnings owner's shares to a sell rating (from neutral) and cut its price target to $69.00 (from $90.00). Citi believes that elevated fuel prices and interest rates will weigh on consumer spending in the near term.

Dateline Resources Ltd (ASX: DTR) shares are under heavy pressure on Friday, with the high-flying small cap pulling back after an extended run higher.

At the time of writing, the Dateline share price is down 13.70% to 31.5 cents. That extends a pullback of nearly 30% over the past week.

Despite the recent drop, the overall trend remains strong. The stock is up around 40% in 2026 and more than 5,000% over the past 12 months.

Today's decline follows a fresh update released to the ASX.

Company responds to US legal coverage

According to the announcement, Dateline issued a response to recent media reporting in the United States tied to legal proceedings involving the Colosseum Gold and Rare Earths Project in California.

The proceedings have been brought by the National Parks Conservation Association and name US federal agencies as respondents. Dateline itself is not a named party in the case.

Management said the reporting does not fully reflect the historical context or the status of existing mining rights linked to the project. The company also stated it does not agree with some of the assumptions made in the coverage.

Dateline reiterated that activities at the Colosseum project are continuing in line with its approved plan of operations and existing rights.

The company added that it will keep monitoring developments and update shareholders on any material changes.

Flagship project remains central

The Colosseum Gold and Rare Earths Project remains the key asset driving investor interest.

Dateline owns 100% of the project, which sits in California's Walker Lane Trend. The site has an existing gold resource and is also being assessed for rare earths potential.

Previous updates have pointed to economics supported by a gold price assumption above US$2,900 per ounce. The company has also been progressing work linked to rare earths exposure near the historic Mountain Pass region.

That combination has been a major factor behind the stock's re-rating over the past year, as investors seek exposure to US-based critical minerals assets.

Volatility follows a rapid re-rating

Moves of this size are not unusual for the Dateline stock.

The share price surged through late 2025 and into 2026, driven by higher gold prices, rare earths interest, and project updates.

After such a strong run, the stock can become more sensitive to shifts in sentiment, even without any operational change.

Foolish Takeaway

The company has not flagged any impact to operations, but the update adds some uncertainty around how the project may be viewed.

After such a large run, swings like this are not surprising.

From my side, I would rather watch this one from the sidelines. The volatility is high, and there are more stable opportunities elsewhere on the ASX.

Four ASX shares that have failed to follow the market higher today are listed below. Here's why they are dropping:

Dateline Resources Ltd (ASX: DTR)

The Dateline Resources share price is down almost 4% to 43.75 cents. This morning, this gold developer completed a $50 million placement to leading institutional investors. These funds were raised at a discount of 40 cents per new share. Dateline's managing director, Stephen Baghdadi, commented: "This raise drew strong support from high-quality institutional investors, a clear endorsement of what Colosseum represents. We're not standing still. Enabling works are already underway and we're pushing ahead on multiple fronts to make sure the project is ready to move into production quickly when the time comes."

Karoon Energy Ltd (ASX: KAR)

The Karoon Energy share price is down 3% to $2.00. This is despite there being no news out of the energy producer. However, given there is optimism that the Middle East conflict could soon come to an end, it is possible that investors are expecting oil and gas prices to retreat in the near term.

Lindian Resources Ltd (ASX: LIN)

The Lindian Resources share price is down 13% to 77.2 cents. This has also been driven by a capital raising today. The rare earths developer revealed that it has received firm commitments to raise approximately $100 million via a single tranche placement to institutional investors and strategic critical minerals funds. These funds are being raised at a 15.25% discount of 75 cents per new share. Lindian Resources' executive chair, Robert Martin, commented: "We are very pleased with the strong level of institutional support received for this Placement, including significant participation from high quality existing and new investors, reflecting Lindian's growing global profile and the strategic importance of Kangankunde as one of the next rare earths producers to supply emerging global supply chains."

PEXA Group Ltd (ASX: PXA)

The PEXA share price is down almost 17% to $12.68. This morning, the team at UBS downgraded the property settlement company's shares to a neutral rating (from buy) and cut its price target to $15.70 (from $17.50). The broker made the move on the belief that risks are skewed to the downside at present.

Dateline Resources Ltd (ASX: DTR) shares are under pressure on Wednesday after the company announced another major capital raise.

In morning trade, the Dateline share price is down 4.40% to 43.5 cents.

Despite today's decline, the stock remains up almost 100% in 2026, continuing one of the strongest runs in the ASX resources space this year.

The move suggests some investors are locking in gains after the rally, while the market waits for the next major development milestone.

Fresh funding pushes Colosseum closer

According to its ASX announcement, Dateline has completed a $50 million placement at 40 cents per share. This involves the issue of 125 million new shares, equal to roughly 3.3% of its enlarged capital base.

More than 95% of the funds came from institutional investors.

This level of support points to strong backing for its Colosseum gold and rare earths project in California.

The new capital will be directed toward enabling and site development works, procurement of key processing infrastructure, final optimisation workstreams, and the equity component required for a future project finance facility.

The funding keeps Dateline ahead of the financing curve and gives it more flexibility as it moves closer to production.

Managing Director Stephen Baghdadi said:

This raise drew strong support from high-quality institutional investors, a clear endorsement of what Colosseum represents.

He noted the company is already advancing multiple work fronts, so the project can move quickly once the feasibility study is complete.

Why the market may be selling anyway

Today's weakness appears to reflect profit-taking rather than the update itself.

Dateline shares have had an extraordinary run, with the stock up more than 10,000% over the past 12 months and almost doubling since the start of 2026.

Following a move of that size, positive funding news can still lead to short-term selling as traders lock in gains.

The 40-cent issue price may also be acting as a reference point, particularly with the stock trading only modestly above that level before the trading halt.

Dateline is now entering the final stages of its bankable feasibility study (BFS) with approximately $96 million in cash.

The Colosseum BFS is due this month, with wastewater planning and updated cost assumptions among the final items being worked through.

Foolish Takeaway

Today's fall does not appear to reflect any deterioration in Dateline's project outlook.

The company now carries a market capitalisation of roughly $1.58 billion, which leaves plenty riding on the upcoming BFS.

After the stock's strong run, investors may prefer to wait for the final Colosseum BFS before deciding if there's still valuation upside.

After a brutal two-day sell-off last week, shares in Dateline Resources Ltd (ASX: DTR) are frozen on Monday.

This comes as the market waits for details of a fresh capital raising.

The ASX granted the trading halt following the company's request for time to finalise the proposed funding announcement.

Dateline shares last traded at 45.5 cents, down 10.78% on Friday after already falling 8.11% in the prior session. That rapid pullback interrupted what has otherwise been a huge run in 2026, with the stock still sitting up more than 100% since the start of the year.

Trading is expected to resume by Wednesday morning unless the company releases the raising details sooner.

Here's what has triggered the halt.

Funding details now become the key focus

Today's ASX release confirms the halt is tied to a proposed material capital raising, with management using the pause to finalise terms.

At this stage, the company has not disclosed the size of the raising, the issue price, or whether existing shareholders will be able to participate.

Those details are now likely to determine the direction of the share price when trading resumes.

The biggest question for the market is how aggressively the new shares are priced relative to Friday's close of 45.5 cents.

A steep discount would raise the risk of short-term selling pressure, particularly after last week's significant decline.

That backdrop may also explain why the stock was already weakening into the halt, with some traders potentially anticipating a funding update.

The bigger picture behind the 2026 rally

Even with the latest sell-off, Dateline remains one of the ASX's strongest performers this year.

The stock is still up more than 100% in 2026, supported by growing market interest in its 100%-owned Colosseum Gold and Rare Earths Project in California.

That asset has become the central driver of the company's re-rating, particularly as investors look for exposure to US-based gold and strategic minerals projects.

Because of that, the market's reaction to the raising is likely to depend heavily on where the funds are going.

If the capital is directed toward drilling, resource upgrades, permitting, or development work at Colosseum, shareholders may be more willing to absorb the dilution.

The market has already shown it is willing to support the stock when there's clear progress at the project.

Foolish Takeaway

The trading halt has shifted the focus from last week's heavy selling to what Dateline announces next.

After falling nearly 18% across two sessions, attention now turns to the pricing and purpose of the raising. This will likely determine whether the recent weakness is temporary or the start of a broader downtrend.

Nonetheless, the stock is still holding onto triple-digit gains for 2026. That could help support sentiment if the new funds are directed towards further developing its flagship California project.

Shares in Dateline Resources Ltd (ASX: DTR) are under pressure on Thursday following the release of a new operational update.

At the time of writing, the Dateline share price is down 7.92% to 46.5 cents.

The decline comes despite the company outlining progress at its Colosseum Gold and Rare Earth Elements (REE) project in California.

Here is what the company announced.

Dateline secures second drill rig

According to the release, Dateline has acquired a second diamond drill rig to accelerate its drilling program at the Colosseum project.

The company said the rig has already been mobilised to site and is undergoing final safety checks ahead of drilling.

The new rig will operate alongside an existing contractor-operated rig. Together, the two rigs are expected to support a 12-hole drilling program targeting rare earths elements.

Dateline said the additional capacity will also allow it to test gold mineralisation at the site, including extensions of the North Pipe area.

The newly acquired rig is track-mounted and capable of drilling to depths of up to 1,200 metres. This is expected to provide greater flexibility to access areas where conventional truck-mounted rigs may be limited.

Focus remains on Colosseum project

The Colosseum project is located in California, near the well-known Mountain Pass rare earths mine.

Dateline owns 100% of the project and is progressing both gold and rare earths exploration activities.

Previous work at the site has defined a JORC compliant gold resource. The company is also assessing the potential to expand this resource while testing for additional rare earths mineralisation.

Management said the addition of a second rig is expected to increase drilling activity and lift exploration output across both commodities.

Strong run despite today's pullback

While today's share price decline may draw attention, it follows a period of strong gains.

Dateline shares are up more than 100% since the start of the year. Over the past 12 months, the stock has delivered returns of more than 11,500%.

The company currently has a market capitalisation of around $1.6 billion and has recorded large trading volumes in recent sessions.

What to watch from here

With two rigs now operating, Dateline should generate more drilling data across both gold and rare earths targets. This includes work around the North Pipe area and other parts of the project.

The larger program is also expected to improve coverage across the site as drilling ramps up.

Attention will now turn to updates on drilling progress and results from the expanded program.

Dateline Resources Ltd (ASX: DTR) shares closed 6.3% higher on Wednesday afternoon, at 50.5 cents a piece. The uptick comes off the back of some strong share price upticks out of the ASX mining stock over the past year, which has seen its value skyrocket.

This time last year the shares were trading at 0.5 cents per share. But when it reported promising interim results from its geological review of historic exploration data at its Colosseum Gold Mine Project, the share price started flying.

The ASX gold miner's shares are now up around 130% for the year-to-date. They're also a massive 10,000% higher than this time last year.

What is Dateline and what does it do?

Dateline is an Australian-based company focused on gold mining and exploration targets in Colorado, located in the US. It also has exploration plans in Fiji and Australia.

The company's projects include its flagship Colosseum Gold-REE Mine in California, Gold Link, Udu Mine, the Colosseum Rare Earths Project, the Argos Strontium Project, and others.

Dateline also holds 100% of the Music Valley heavy rare earth project, which sits in the same broader geological region. The ASX miner is undergoing exportation at its Music Valley project, with assay results expected in the coming weeks.

Dateline was added to the ASX 300 Index this month and currently has a market cap of $1.73 billion.

What has pushed the ASX gold mining stock higher?

On Tuesday, Dateline announced that it has completed a high-resolution airborne magnetic and radiometric survey over its Music Valley heavy rare-earth element (HREE) project in the US.

The helicopter-based survey, which covered 2,172 line kilometres over the expanded project area, was completed ahead of schedule. The survey is expected to produce detailed data to help geologists better understand the area.

The company said the data has now been delivered to Mitre Geophysics for processing, inversion, and analysis. The results will be announced as part of the sampling programs currently underway at the site.

Can Dateline's share price gains keep climbing?

There aren't any broker forecasts for Dateline shares at present. But the company's fast-paced expansion and positive developments suggest we could plenty more from the ASX mining stock in 2026.

However, the future value depends heavily on the results from the Dateline's feasibility studies. It also depends on the company's potential to develop those sites further. Any disappointing results could see the share price retract quickly.

The Dateline Resources Ltd (ASX: DTR) share price is on the move today after the mining explorer released an update.

At the time of writing, the Dateline share price is up 3.30% to 47 cents.

The stock has delivered extraordinary gains over a longer timeframe. Dateline shares are now up more than 100% in 2026 and have surged an astonishing 8,950% over the past 12 months.

Here is what the company revealed today.

Dateline completes airborne survey at Music Valley project

Dateline announced that it has completed a high-resolution airborne magnetic and radiometric survey over its Music Valley heavy rare-earth element (HREE) project in California, United States.

The helicopter-based survey covered 2,172 line kilometres over the expanded project area.

The program was completed ahead of schedule.

The survey was flown with 50 metre spacing between lines at about 30 metres above the ground. This should produce detailed data to help geologists better understand the area.

Dateline said the data has now been delivered to Mitre Geophysics for processing, inversion, and analysis.

The results will be integrated with ongoing field mapping and rock chip sampling programs currently underway at the site.

Mapping and sampling programs underway

Alongside the airborne survey, Dateline confirmed that field mapping and sampling activities have commenced at Music Valley.

The company said its rare earths element specialists are currently working across the expanded project area to collect geological data and rock samples.

The initial exploration focus will be on outcrops of Pinto Gneiss and surrounding contact zones. These are believed to host potential rare earths mineralisation.

Rock chip samples collected during this program will be sent for laboratory analysis, with assay results expected in around 5 to 7 weeks.

Dateline said the work will help it better understand the geology of the area and identify potential locations for future drilling.

Managing Director Stephen Baghdadi noted that completing the airborne survey is an important step in the company's exploration plans.

He added that the data will now be combined with fieldwork to guide the next stage of exploration across the project area.

A closer look at Dateline

Dateline is a mining and exploration company focused on projects in North America.

The company's flagship asset is the Colosseum Gold-REE Project, located in San Bernardino County, California.

Dateline also holds 100% of the Music Valley heavy rare earth project, which sits in the same broader geological region.

Rare earths elements are considered strategically important minerals due to their use in electronics, renewable energy technologies, and defence applications.

Exploration activity is continuing at the Music Valley project, with assay results expected in the coming weeks.

At the time of writing, the ASX rare earths stock is up an impressive 13% to 41.7 cents.

Why is this ASX rare earths stock rocketing today?

Investors have been scrambling to buy the ASX rare earths stock after the company announced a major expansion of its Music Valley Heavy Rare Earth Project in California.

According to the release, Dateline has significantly increased the size of the project after staking 969 additional claims covering 19,380 acres.

Management notes that following this expansion, the Music Valley project now spans 1,026 claims across 20,520 acres, giving the company a district-scale land position in the region.

Importantly, the enlarged project area includes nearly 9 kilometres of the prospective Pinto Gneiss geological unit, which has historically been identified as hosting heavy rare earth mineralisation.

Heavy rare earths were first documented in the area by US Geological Survey (USGS) geologists in the 1950s, and Dateline now controls a significant portion of this prospective terrain.

Exploration already underway

The ASX rare earths stock advised that exploration activities are already progressing across the expanded project.

The company revealed that a project-wide airborne magnetics and radiometric survey is currently underway and approximately 65% complete.

In addition, its rare earth specialists have commenced geological mapping and surface rock sampling across the project area.

Management said these activities are expected to help generate and prioritise drilling targets across the consolidated land package.

Commenting on the big news, the ASX rare earths stock's managing director, Stephen Baghdadi, said:

Music Valley provides Dateline with district-scale exposure to a geological unit where heavy rare earth mineralisation was first documented by USGS geologists more than seventy years ago.

Our approach is to build on that historical work using modern exploration techniques. Airborne geophysics, detailed mapping and systematic sampling are already underway, allowing us to quickly generate and prioritise drill targets across the consolidated land position.

Today's gain means the Dateline Resources share price has extended its outperformance of the benchmark ASX 200 index in 2026.

The ASX rare earths stock is now up an incredible 80% since the start of the year. This compares favourably to a small gain by the ASX 200 index so far this year.

The Dateline Resources Ltd (ASX: DTR) share price is charging higher on Friday after the company unveiled a new US heavy rare earths acquisition.

At the time of writing, the gold and rare earths developer's shares are up 8.57% to 38 cents.

That means the stock has now climbed more than 60% since the start of 2026. It extends an already strong run for the small-cap resources company.

So, what did Dateline announce?

Dateline locks in US heavy rare earths project

This morning, Dateline revealed it has acquired the Music Valley heavy rare earth elements project in California.

The project comprises 57 claims covering 1,140 acres in Riverside County, around 8 miles southeast of Twentynine Palms.

According to the company, historical United States Geological Survey work has identified heavy rare earth mineralisation in the area. Reported rock chip results ranged from 6.69% to 15.04% total rare earth oxides, including high levels of yttrium and dysprosium grades.

Heavy rare earths such as dysprosium and terbium are used to enhance magnet strength and heat resistance in electric vehicles, wind turbines, defence systems, and advanced electronics.

Dateline said it plans to undertake mapping, geochemistry, and geophysics to define drill targets at Music Valley.

Expanding its US critical minerals footprint

The acquisition is part of a wider strategic push in North America.

As part of the transaction terms, Dateline has also completed a US$1.05 million investment in Fermi Critical Minerals Inc. Fermi is raising capital to advance uranium and rare earths projects in Wyoming and Colorado.

Dateline Managing Director Stephen Baghdadi said the deal gives the company direct exposure to heavy rare earths mineralisation in California, while also expanding its footprint across uranium and rare earths assets in the United States.

The planned work program at Music Valley will be funded from Dateline's existing cash balance.

The company already owns 100% of the Colosseum Gold-REE Project in California, located near the Mountain Pass rare earth mine. The addition of Music Valley broadens Dateline's asset base and strengthens its exposure to US-based rare earths and uranium opportunities.

Foolish Takeaway

Rare earths have become strategically important due to their role in electrification, renewable energy, and defence technologies. And with geopolitics heating up, Western governments are increasingly looking to diversify supply chains away from China.

Dateline's latest move strengthens its exposure to the growing strategic focus on securing reliable alternative rare earths supply chains.

While investors have responded positively, Music Valley remains an early-stage exploration project. Its ultimate value will depend on successful drilling, resource definition, and the company's ability to advance the project beyond exploration.

The fast-rising stock in question is gold and rare earths explorer Dateline Resources Ltd (ASX: DTR).

Dateline Resources shares closed on Friday trading for 28.5 cents. In early morning trade on Monday, shares are swapping hands for 30.2 cents apiece, up 6%.

On the back of a surging gold price, increasing Western interest in rare earths sources outside of China, and its own exploration successes, this has seen the Dateline Resources share price up 115.7% over the past six months, racing ahead of the 0.3% six-month losses posted by the benchmark index.

Here's what's catching ASX investor interest again today.

ASX All Ords gold stock leaps on survey progress

Investors are piling into Dateline Resources shares today after the miner announced it has completed infill gravity, magnetic, and radiometric surveys at its 100% owned Colosseum Gold and Rare Earth Project, located in the US state of California.

The ASX All Ords gold stock completed an induced polarisation (IP) survey across Colosseum in December.

Dateline said it designed the latest round of surveys to improve resolution over areas where earlier IP and MT data identified "deep chargeability and conductivity features interpreted to be structurally controlled and potentially associated with gold mineralisation and/or REE-bearing [rare earth element bearing] carbonatite intrusions".

The ASX All Ords gold stock noted that it will integrate the newly acquired geophysical datasets to progressively sharpen drill targeting across the key structural corridors the miner has identified in earlier programs.

The company expects that this work will see it transition from broad-based target definition at the project to highly focused drill testing.

What did management say?

Commenting on the progress lifting the ASX All Ords gold stock today, Dateline managing director Stephen Baghdadi said, "The data continues to support the presence of a large mineral system, with deep structural and sulphide-hosted features interpreted as mineralising plumbing extending beyond the known near surface ore zones."

Baghdadi added:

The integration of these high-quality geophysical datasets is a deliberate step to sharpen drill targeting and maximise the effectiveness of the forthcoming drilling campaign.

With several targets interpreted at depths of approximately 500 to 1,000 metres, this approach ensures that drilling is highly focused, technically informed and capital efficient as the company advances into deeper, more technically demanding drill testing.

Dateline Resources said that diamond core drilling rigs are scheduled to begin arriving at Colosseum next week.

At the time of writing, the benchmark index is up 1% to 8,951.7 points.

Four ASX shares that are rising more than most today are listed below. Here's why they are charging higher:

Dateline Resources Ltd (ASX: DTR)

The Dateline Resources share price is up 7.5% to 45.2 cents. Investors have been buying this gold and rare earths explorer's shares following the release of a drilling update. Dateline Resources revealed that elevated chargeability zones have been identified in preliminary induced polarisation (IP) results at both shallow and deeper levels. Commenting on the news, the company's managing director, Stephen Baghdadi, said: "The data supports the theory of a large mineral system with deep structural and sulphide-hosted features that may reflect mineralizing plumbing beyond near-surface ore zones."

Electro Optic Systems Holdings Ltd (ASX: EOS)

The EOS share price is up 1.5% to $10.51. This follows the release of the defence and space company's quarterly update. EOS reported cash receipts from customers totalling $77.3 million for the three months. This represents an increase of $60.8 million compared to the third quarter of 2025. This increase primarily reflects milestone completions achieved on customer contracts during the quarter. The company advised that its order contract backlog currently stands at $459 million. This is an increase of $323 million on the position at the start of 2025.

Karoon Energy Ltd (ASX: KAR)

The Karoon Energy share price is up 3.5% to $1.69. This has been driven by the release of the energy producer's fourth quarter update. Karoon Energy reported quarterly sales volumes of 2.65 MMboe. This is up 5% on the third quarter and 12% during the prior corresponding period. However, due to softer realised oil prices, its sales revenue came in at US$156.1 million, compared to US$164.1 million in the third quarter. Karoon Energy's CEO and managing director, Ms Carri Lockhart, said:
"During the fourth quarter of 2025, the Baúna FPSO achieved its best quarterly efficiency rate (98.8%) since the asset was acquired in 2020. As a result, Baúna production for the full year was at the upper end of our guidance range."

Pro Medicus Ltd (ASX: PME)

The Pro Medicus share price is up 4% to $188.64. Investors have been buying this health imaging technology company's shares following the release of a bullish broker note out of Macquarie. According to the note, the broker has upgraded Pro Medicus' shares to an outperform rating with a $291.30 price target.

One of the ASX's best-performing small-cap stocks is back in the spotlight after releasing a new exploration update.

Shares in Dateline Resources Ltd (ASX: DTR) are up 15.48% today to 48.5 cents. The move adds to a powerful run, with the stock now up around 100% year to date and attracting strong investor attention.

Let's take a closer look at what was announced early Tuesday morning.

A key step forward at Colosseum

According to the release, Dateline has completed a ground geophysical survey at its 100%-owned Colosseum Gold and Rare Earth Element (REE) Project in California.

The survey, which looks below the surface using electrical signals, is designed to help identify the most promising areas for future drilling.

Early results identified several standout zones beneath the surface, both shallow and at greater depths, across the southern part of the project.

These zones line up with information Dateline already had, including other geophysical data and known geological features.

Why investors are paying attention

Dateline has also identified a large fault zone running through the project area. Faults are cracks in the earth where rocks have shifted over time.

These structures can allow mineral-rich fluids to move through the ground. Over long periods, that process can help form gold and rare earth deposits.

The company said these features appear in similar locations to the results from the new survey, which helps explain the market's interest.

Dateline also pointed to similarities with the nearby Mountain Pass rare earths mine, one of the biggest rare earths projects in the United States. While Colosseum is still much earlier in development, the comparison has caught investors' attention.

What happens next

The survey results are now being analysed by geophysics specialists at Mitre Geophysics.

Dateline plans to combine this new data with earlier surveys to narrow down the most promising drill targets for both gold and rare earths.

The company has also ordered more surveys, including gravity and magnetic work, to further improve targeting before deeper drilling begins.

Management said future drilling will focus on areas where several datasets point to the same locations. More updates are expected as this work continues.

Putting the rally into context

Colosseum already hosts a defined gold resource and sits in a well-known mining region.

Current work is focused on expanding the project and testing deeper areas, while also assessing rare earths potential.

After such a strong start to the year, the share price could remain volatile. Still, the latest update helps explain why interest in the stock remains high.

In afternoon trade, the S&P/ASX 200 Index (ASX: XJO) is on course to end the week on a positive note. At the time of writing, the benchmark index is up 0.3% to 8,874.5 points.

Four ASX shares that have failed to follow the market higher today are listed below. Here's why they are falling:

Capstone Copper (ASX: CSC)

The Capstone Copper share price is down 3.5% to $14.90. This appears to have been driven by the release of an update on the Mantoverde operation, where some workers are on strike. Capstone advised that individuals entered the desalination plant facilities on 18 January and interfered with its electrical system. This resulted in the interruption of water supply to Mantoverde. Striking union members are preventing access and the restart of facility operations at the desalination plant. Mantoverde's sulphide operations have been halted and oxide operations will be halted tomorrow unless water supply is restored. Capstone advised that it "is currently seeking judicial support to regain access to the desalination plant to restore water supply to Mantoverde and resume operations."

Dateline Resources Ltd (ASX: DTR)

The Dateline Resources share price is down 3.5% to 36.2 cents. This has been driven by the completion of a $35 million institutional placement. The gold and rare earths explorer has raised $35 million through a strongly supported placement at a discount of 31 cents per share. Dateline's managing director, Stephen Baghdadi, commented: "This capital enables us to act decisively in advancing development, expanding drilling, and testing deeper targets, while progressing a potential U.S. listing strategy. Our focus remains squarely on execution and value creation for shareholders."

DroneShield Ltd (ASX: DRO)

The DroneShield share price is down 5% to $4.49. This is despite there being no news out of the counter-drone technology company today. One broker that is likely to see this as a buying opportunity is Bell Potter. On Thursday, the broker put a buy rating and $5.00 price target on its shares. It believes the company could benefit from the US Public Safety market. The broker said: "We believe the key catalyst for DRO in CY26 is the potential awards stemming from the US Public Safety market, notably from the US$250m funds allocated to states hosting the FIFA World Cup and the America 250 events for C-UAS protection. We would be disappointed if DRO did not receive material awards from these events."

Lindian Resources Ltd (ASX: LIN)

The Lindian Resources share price is down 2% to 47.5 cents. This follows the release of the rare earths and bauxite company's quarterly update. The company saw its cash balance fall from $85 million to $57 million during the three months. Though, this was largely due to equipment and project costs totalling $19.3 million. It also made a $15.1 million payment for the final tranche to increase its ownership of Rift Valley Resource Developments to 100%.

Shares in Dateline Resources Ltd (ASX: DTR) are in a trading halt today after the company requested a temporary pause in trading from the ASX.

The halt was put in place on 21 January 2026 and will remain until Dateline releases an announcement or trading resumes on Friday, 23 January 2026.

Strong share price run before the halt

Dateline shares had been moving higher before trading was paused.

The stock was last trading at around 37.5 cents, following a sharp rise over recent weeks. Earlier this month, the shares were closer to the mid-20-cent range, showing how quickly investor sentiment has improved.

Looking further back, Dateline has delivered an extraordinary turnaround over the past year. In early 2025, the shares were trading for less than 1 cent, valuing the company at only a few million dollars.

At current levels, the stock has risen more than 12,400% in 12 months, turning it from a penny stock into one of the market's stronger short-term performers.

What does Dateline do?

Dateline is a mining and exploration company with projects located in the United States.

Its main asset is the Colosseum Gold Project in California, which the company owns outright. The project already hosts a gold resource and is located close to the Mountain Pass region, an area known for rare earths mining.

Alongside gold, Dateline has highlighted the potential for rare earths elements, which are considered strategically important for defence, technology, and clean energy supply chains.

The company also owns the Argos Strontium Project, another US-based asset that could play a role in specialist industrial applications.

Recent board changes add experience

Earlier this month, Dateline strengthened its board by appointing new Non-Executive Directors with strong experience across the North American mining sector.

The new directors bring skills spanning project development, mine operations, and capital markets, gained through decades of working in the industry. This added experience could prove important as Dateline advances its US-based assets toward more defined development pathways.

The appointments were seen as a step toward moving the company beyond early exploration and into more advanced development planning.

All eyes on the upcoming announcement

Once the trading halt is lifted, attention will turn squarely to the content of Dateline's market update.

Investors will be looking for clarity on the company's direction, including progress on project development, funding plans, and strategic initiatives. The market will also be watching for guidance on timing, particularly any milestones that could shape Dateline's near-term outlook.

Given the strong share price move leading into the halt, the reaction is likely to depend on how closely the announcement aligns with current expectations.

Until then, Dateline remains on watch as investors wait for further details.

The Dateline Resources Ltd (ASX: DTR) share price is back in the spotlight on Monday. This comes after the company released a fresh drilling update from its flagship Colosseum project in California.

At the time of writing, the junior miner's shares are up 8.18% to 29.8 cents in early afternoon trade, extending what has already been a remarkable rally.

Zooming out, Dateline shares are now up an astonishing 9,816% over the past 12 months and 32% year to date. This highlights just how sharply investor interest has returned to the stock.

So, what did the company announce, and why is the market reacting again?

Drilling pushes beyond current resource limits

The catalyst for today's move was Dateline's announcement of fresh drilling results from its Colosseum Gold-REE Project. These results confirmed wide zones of gold mineralisation extending beyond the current mineral resource boundaries.

The company reported multiple long and shallow intercepts from recent reverse circulation (RC) drilling, including:

295.64 metres at 1.04 g/t gold from surface

105.15 metres at 1.24 g/t gold from surface

300.21 metres at 0.66 g/t gold from surface

297.17 metres at 0.68 g/t gold from surface

Several of these results sit outside the existing resource envelope, suggesting there is scope for further resource growth.

Importantly, mineralisation remains open to the northeast, with Dateline highlighting ongoing expansion potential in that direction.

Deeper system still untested

Beyond the latest drilling results, the update also pointed to encouraging geological signals at depth.

RC drilling reached depths of around 300 metres, which is close to the practical limit for this drilling method. However, Dateline confirmed that mineralisation had not closed off at these depths.

Magneto-telluric conductivity data align with the new gold intercepts, reinforcing confidence that the system may extend further.

As a result, the company now plans to shift to diamond drilling to test deeper targets and better define the mineralised system.

Why investors are paying attention

Colosseum is a 100% owned project located in San Bernardino County, California, near the Mountain Pass rare earths mine. Dateline already has a JORC-compliant gold resource at the project, and management has been clear that its strategy is to expand that base.

After a year of explosive share price gains, volatility should be expected. Still, ongoing drilling success and clear exploration momentum explain why buyers continue to step in.

For now, it appears the market is keen to see just how big the Colosseum project could become.

At the time of writing, the benchmark index is up 1.1% to 8,688.6 points.

Four ASX shares that are rising more than most today are listed below. Here's why they are climbing:

4DMedical Ltd (ASX: 4DX)

The 4DMedical share price is up 10% to $2.25. Investors have been buying this medical technology company's shares after it secured a cash injection of $30.2 million through the underwriting of options. 4DMedical's founder-CEO, Andreas Fouras, said: "2025 has been an outstanding year for 4DMedical and our shareholders. We are moving at remarkable speed, and our momentum continues to build. This agreement ensures that we have more than sufficient capital to execute our plans to commercialise CT:VQ and to lead the Company through to profitability."

Dateline Resources Ltd (ASX: DTR)

The Dateline Resources share price is up 2% to 24 cents. This morning, the rare earths producer released an update on legal proceedings against Dateline's CEO, Stephen Baghdadi. The proceedings are an attempt to procure the transfer of certain rare earth elements (REE) tenements in the USA. In a preliminary hearing, no findings were made by the Court. However, it notes that "a timetable was agreed under which USC/Gladiator is required to provide further information regarding its claim, pending a further hearing on 23 December 2025. Until then, Stephen Baghdadi, on behalf of Dateline, agreed to maintain the status quo in relation to the tenements that are subject to USC/Gladiator's claims."

Deep Yellow Ltd (ASX: DYL)

The Deep Yellow share price is up 5% to $1.94. This may have been driven by a broker note out of Ord Minnett this morning. According to the note, its analysts have upgraded this uranium producer's shares to an accumulate rating from hold with a price target of $2.00. The broker made the move after increasing its earnings estimates to reflect improving commodity prices in 2026.

Newmont Corporation (ASX: NEM)

The Newmont share price is up 5% to $149.63. Investors have been buying Newmont's shares following a strong rise in the gold price overnight after the US Federal Reserve cut interest rates this week. It isn't just Newmont that is rising today. Almost all ASX gold miners are climbing in response, which has lifted the S&P/ASX All Ordinaries Gold index by a sizeable 3.5%.

ASX All Ords stock Dateline Resources Ltd (ASX: DTR) came under pressure yesterday after the company moved to address media speculation surrounding potential Rare Earth Elements (REE) tenements in the United States.

The Dateline share price closed down a sizeable 12.24% to 21.5 cents.

What sparked all this?

The situation began after an announcement from US1 Critical Minerals (ASX: USC), formerly Gladiator Resources, which stated that legal proceedings had been launched against Dateline's CEO, Stephen Baghdadi.

The implication was that USC was trying to gain control of certain promising REE tenements in the United States and that Stephen Baghdadi or the ASX All Ords stock may have been involved in some way.

Without doubt, the news created some investors to worry with the Dateline share price plummeting on the news. Dateline has now stepped in with this announcement to set the record straight.

Dateline pushes back on the claims

According to the release, Dateline said that while Stephen Baghdadi has indeed been pursuing additional REE opportunities following the Colosseum Gold–REE project, there are no arrangements of any kind between its CEO, or related entities and USC/Gladiator.

Dateline also made it clear that if it does secure more prospective REE tenements, those assets will be developed for the benefit of Dateline shareholders only.

The company firmly rejected any suggestion that the tenements would be transferred to another party, and said any legal claims against the company or its CEO will be vigorously defended.

Chairman backs the CEO

Chairman Mark Johnson also came out swinging, crediting Stephen Baghdadi and his team for an exceptional year. He said:

Dateline's exceptional year is owed to the outstanding efforts of our Managing Director, Mr Stephen Baghdadi and the team that he has assembled. Mr Baghdadi identified and negotiated the Colosseum opportunity and managed government and regulatory engagements in the highest levels of the Federal Government through to state, county and local authorities. His efforts have yielded significant value to Dateline.

These kinds of disputes aren't unusual when companies are operating in competitive spaces like Rare Earths, especially where new discoveries can quickly attract attention.

Today's sell-off shows the market reacting to uncertainty, but Dateline's response aims to settle the speculation and reassure shareholders that the company remains focused on developing its REE opportunities.

At the time of writing, the benchmark index is up 0.2% to 8,597.4 points.

Four ASX shares that are rising more than most today are listed below. Here's why they are climbing:

4DMedical Ltd (ASX: 4DX)

The 4DMedical share price is up 12% to $1.86. This morning, the respiratory imaging technology company signed a significant expansion of its distribution agreement with Koninklijke Philips NV (NYSE: PHG). This is for its FDA-cleared, non-contrast computed tomography (CT) ventilation and perfusion imaging solution, CT:VQ. It is the world's first technology capable of extracting quantitative ventilation-perfusion (VQ) data from routine non-contrast CT scans. Management estimates that it has an addressable market of more than US$1.1 billion annually in the U.S. and over US$2.6 billion globally.

Dateline Resources Ltd (ASX: DTR)

The Dateline Resources share price is up 3.5% to 28.5 cents. This follows the release of drilling results from the 100%-owned Colosseum Gold and Rare Earth Element (REE) Project in California. Dateline advised that results from a further two reverse circulation holes drilled below the North Pit have provided gold assay results that exceed the mineral resource grade for the indicated blocks that they intercepted. Management expects this result to improve the mineral resource grade for the blocks.

Predictive Discovery Ltd (ASX: PDI)

The Predictive Discovery share price is up 16% to 72.7 cents. This has been driven by news that Perseus Mining Ltd (ASX: PRU) has tabled a superior takeover offer this morning. The gold miner has offered 0.136 new Perseus shares per Predictive Discovery share. This valued each Predictive Discovery share at 77.8 cents, which is a 24.5% premium to its last close and values its equity at $2.1 billion in total. Perseus advised that it expects the transaction to enhance its portfolio quality and the company's African gold platform.

Wildcat Resources Ltd (ASX: WC8)

The Wildcat Resources share price is up almost 4% to 27.5 cents. This morning, the lithium explorer revealed that it has signed a Native Title Agreement over its 100% owned Tabba Tabba Project with the Nyamal native title holders. Wildcat's chair, Jeff Elliott, commented: "We thank the Nyamal people for their continued support of the Project and successful negotiation of the Native Title Agreement. We look forward to continuing a close relationship with the Nyamal people, to unlock the benefits from this exciting new project in the Pilbara."

S&P/ASX 200 Index (ASX: XJO) giants like BHP Group Ltd (ASX: BHP) and Westpac Banking Corp (ASX: WBC) have given investors decent returns over the past year. But there are some much smaller and lesser-known ASX shares which are earning investors a huge amount more money.

Dividend gains and passive income are one thing, but enormous returns are just as great for investors looking for a way to make cash. Here are two overlooked shares which have rocketed this year.

Dateline Resources Ltd (ASX: DTR)

Dateline Resources is an Australian-based gold and rare earth mining and exploration company focused in the United States. Its main projects include the Colosseum Gold-REE Project in California and the Gold Links Mine in Colorado. The company also has an interest in the Argos Strontium Project. The project focuses on strontium minerals used in magnets and pyrotechnics.

The ASX miner's shares are trading 7.14% higher on Thursday morning at 29 cents per share. Dateline Resources has seen some incredible share price growth recently. The stock is trading an explosive 9,733.33% higher than this time last year. That means just $500 invested 12 months ago is now worth $49,166.65!

It looks like the small-cap miner could have some good growth prospects too. It's important to note that the company has not defined a rare earths resource at Colosseum yet which is economically viable to mine. But it is currently conducting an evaluation of its gold system at the same site. This will determine if developing a gold mine is worthwhile or not. If it is, Dateline Resources could be set for even more growth.

Servcorp Limited (ASX: SRV)

Servcorp provides flexible workspace solutions like serviced offices, virtual offices, and coworking spaces in major cities around the world. Founded in Sydney, the company is able to offer businesses access to a professional and prestigious address, across 150 locations. It can also give IT and administrative support to help clients operate more flexibly and cost-effectively.

The ASX small-cap company's shares are trading 0.57% lower at the time of writing, at $7.02 a piece. Over the past month, the shares have slumped 4.62%, but over the year, they're still 43.27% higher.

Servcorp's shares have stormed higher at the same surprising rate as Dateline Resources, with its investors enjoying some robust gains over the past 12 months as the under-the-radar business continues strengthening.

The company recently posted record profits, rising free cash flow, and maintains a cash and investment balance north of $140 million. Shareholders have also been rewarded dividends of 28 cents per share in FY25, up 12% from the prior year and management has indicated that in FY26, payouts won't fall below 30 cents.
