The S&P/ASX 200 Index (ASX: XJO) has followed Wall Street's lead and is pushing higher. In afternoon trade, the benchmark index is up 0.6% to 8,754.7 points.

Four ASX shares that are rising more than most today are listed below. Here's why they are storming higher:

4DMedical Ltd (ASX: 4DX)

The 4DMedical share price is up 6% to $3.79. This respiratory imaging technology company's shares have been on fire again this month. The driver of this has been a commercial arrangement for the clinical use of its CT:VQ platform with United States-based Cleveland Clinic. CT:VQ is a CAT scan-based ventilation-perfusion software. 4DMedical's founder and CEO, Andreas Fouras, said: "In just over three months since FDA clearance, we've established CT:VQ at three of America's leading academic medical centres: Stanford, University of Miami, and Cleveland Clinic. This rapid adoption by elite institutions demonstrates the compelling clinical and operational advantages of CT:VQ over traditional nuclear VQ imaging."

Core Lithium Ltd (ASX: CXO)

The Core Lithium share price is up 2.5% to 27.7 cents. This morning, this lithium miner announced the sale of non-core uranium assets. It has sold its 100% interests in the Napperby, Fitton, and Entia Uranium Projects for a cash consideration of $2.5 million to Elevate Uranium Ltd (ASX: EL8). The deal also includes $2.5 million in Elevate Uranium shares and a net smelter royalty of 1% on any metals or minerals produced from the Napperby project area. Core Lithium's CEO, Paul Brown, said: "We're pleased to enter into this transaction for our non-core uranium assets which sharpens our strategic focus as a lithium developer and advances our Finniss operation towards a restart."

Fenix Resources Ltd (ASX: FEX)

The Fenix Resources share price is up 5.5% to 47.5 cents. This follows the release of the results of a scoping study into the opportunity to expand production, reduce costs, and extend mine life from the Weld Range Iron Ore Project. The study found that Fenix could lift production from the Weld Range from 6Mtpa in 2028 to 10Mtpa by 2031, with operations continuing through to 2042. It also believes it can reduce life of mine C1 cash costs to ~A$55.40 per wet metric tonne. This is 27% lower than the midpoint of its FY 2026 guidance range.

Goodman Group (ASX: GMG)

The Goodman Group share price is up almost 9% to $31.77. This has been driven by news that the industrial property giant has signed an agreement with the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board to establish a A$14 billion European data centre partnership. The partnership's portfolio will comprise four projects totalling 435 MW of primary power and 282 MW of IT load. This includes two centres in Paris (PAR01 and PAR02), one in Frankfurt (FRA02), and one in Amsterdam (AMS01).

Another day, another set of 52-week highs for ASX uranium shares!

Most uranium miners are rising on Tuesday, in contrast to the rest of the market.

The S&P/ASX 200 Energy Index (ASX: XEJ) started the day higher but is now down 0.19%.

The S&P/ASX 200 Index (ASX: XJO) is down 0.59%.

So, why are uranium stocks so hot of late?

Let's investigate.

ASX uranium shares rising strongly on Tuesday

Here's the state of play among this sample bunch of ASX uranium shares in lunchtime trading:

The Boss Energy Ltd (ASX: BOE) share price is up 2.96% to $4.87

The Deep Yellow Limited (ASX: DYL) share price is up 5.81% to $1.275

The Paladin Energy Ltd (ASX: PDN) share price is up 4.31% to $1.09

The Bannerman Energy Ltd (ASX: BMN) share price is up 4.35% to $2.88

The Peninsula Energy Ltd (ASX: PEN) share price is up 1.67% to 12.2 cents

The Elevate Uranium Ltd (ASX: EL8) share price is up 8.65% to 56.5 cents

Today's 52-week highs, at the time of writing, are Bannerman Energy shares at $3.01; Elevate Uranium shares at 58 cents, Deep Yellow shares at $1.31, Boss Energy shares at $4.90, and Paladin Energy shares at $1.11.

Why are uranium stocks so hot?

ASX uranium shares have been on a northwards surge since May, alongside a big lift in the uranium price.

Uranium is one of very few commodities projected to rise in value over the next five years.

Currently, the uranium price is US$65.50 per pound.

This is the highest price seen since the Fukushima nuclear accident in Japan in 2011.

Trading Economics analysis says "strong demand from physical fund speculators" is supporting uranium prices.

It says:

Signs of increased demand for nuclear fuel drove the Sprott Physical Uranium Trust to restart purchasing, lifting prices abruptly due to the market's thin nature.

SP Angel mining analyst John Meyer says uranium prices are expected to rise to between US$75 to US$80 per pound by the end of December.

He says they could keep rising for up to two decades from there.

Meyer told Reuters:

The market has been slowly building higher prices as mining costs rise and nuclear generators look to build stocks to guard against increasingly risky supply-side issues.

We see prices rising year-on-year for next 10-20 years or till the world finds another source for large scale uninterruptible base load power with a low carbon footprint.

The nuclear energy debate in Australia

Many countries are embracing nuclear energy as part of their green energy transition. Nuclear energy is CO2-free.

Most of these countries have existing nuclear energy industries. In Australia, nuclear energy is banned.

The federal coalition has been arguing to include nuclear energy in the mix for Australia's own transition.

The Albanese government disagrees and says we should just get on with developing our renewable energy industry.

The coalition has not yet declared an official policy in this regard.

However, Labor has pre-empted this by releasing costings for replacing Australia's coal-fired power plants with small modular reactors (SMRs).

The modelling suggests it would cost $387 billion.

The chair of the Net Zero Australia Steering Committee, Robin Batterham, says the cost of developing a nuclear energy industry in Australia would likely come down over time.

If it does, then nuclear power "would have a role" but currently, it is "just not in the race".

The debate about creating a local industry matters little to ASX uranium shares. These companies have plenty of overseas customers interested in their uranium stock.

Fund provider BetaShares says higher demand amid low supply is among six trends driving ASX uranium shares higher today.

The Marenica Energy Ltd (ASX: MEY) share price was on the move earlier today. However, after posting gains of 3.3% in afternoon trading, the share price is currently flat.

This comes after the ASX uranium explorer reported successful early results at one of its projects in Namibia. In addition, Marenica currently holds the largest area of uranium exploration leases in the African nation.

What uranium exploration results did Marenica Energy report?

Marenica's shares moved higher earlier today after the company reported it had discovered an extensive palaeochannel system during its maiden geophysical exploration program at its Namib IV prospect.

The exploration program is intended to reveal uranium mineralisation zones. Additionally, the company said the system it has discovered extends for more than 19 kilometres.

Management commentary

Commenting on the exploration results, Marenica's managing director, Murray Hill said:

The structure of this palaeochannel system at Namib IV is extremely promising and we look forward to mobilising a drill rig, within weeks, to test this expansive system.

The other great news is that we are getting closer to commencing an airborne EM [electromagnetic] survey of the Namib Area with final approvals expected this month. The airborne EM is expected to outline new and extensive palaeochannel systems and enable rapid planning of detailed drill programs on highly prospective targets.

According to the release, the EM survey should commence in early April and cover 6,300 linear kilometres. Due to COVID-19 impacts, the survey had been delayed.

Marenica Energy share price snapshot

Marenica Energy shares have performed exceptionally well over the past 12 months, up 288%. That compares to a 49% gain on the All Ordinaries Index (ASX: XAO).

Year-to-date the Marenica share price is up 11%. At the current price of 16 cents per share, the ASX uranium minnow has a market cap of $33 million.
