ASX lithium stock James Bay Minerals Ltd (ASX: JBY) is up 5.26% to 40 cents on Friday.

The newcomer has had a good run since it began trading on the ASX on 12 September.

It hit the ASX boards at an initial public offering (IPO) price of 30.5 cents.

It rose by 100% in two days and closed that first week at 52 cents per share.

Clearly, investors were feeling pretty excited about the new ASX lithium stock.

ASX lithium stock rebounds from October low

Not surprisingly for an ASX nano-cap, the James Bay share price has fluctuated dramatically since the IPO.

It hit a low of 24 cents last month and has lifted by more than 40% over the past four weeks.

This week, we learned two directors have been raising their personal holdings in the lithium junior.

According to an ASX disclosure, James Bay executive director Andrew Dornan acquired 97,750 shares between 15 and 21 November for $37,917.

Dornan is the biggest shareholder in James Bay Minerals.

He owns 7,847,750 James Bay shares, with 7,125,000 escrowed for 24 months post-IPO.

Non-executive chair Gerard O'Donovan also bought some shares over the same period.

O'Donovan acquired 26,749 James Bay shares on-market for $10,098.

He now owns 1,026,749 shares, including 975,000 in escrow.

The background on this lithium explorer

James Bay Minerals has properties spanning 224 sq km in the La Grande Greenstone Belt in Canada.

Its Aero, Aqua, and Joule properties are directly along-trend from the Corvette lithium discovery.

That's where fellow lithium junior Patriot Battery Metals Inc (ASX: PMT) reported a maiden inferred mineral resource estimate of 109.2 Mt at 1.42% Li2O.

James Bay's Troilus property is 5km from the Moblan deposit owned by Sayona Mining Ltd (ASX: SYA).

Sayona has previously announced measured, indicated and inferred resources of 51.4 Mt at 1.31% Li2O.

And while most sides of the market are rising, one area is certainly catching the eye – the lithium industry.

At present, a number of ASX lithium shares are generating strong gains for their shareholders.

Here's a summary of the movers and shakers:

The Allkem Ltd (ASX: AKE) share price is up 6% to $9.16

The Core Lithium Ltd (ASX: CXO) share price is up 1.5% to 38 cents

The James Bay Minerals Ltd (ASX: JBY) share price is up 10% to 37 cents

The Liontown Resources Ltd (ASX: LTR) share price is up 2.5% to $1.54

The Mineral Resources Ltd (ASX: MIN) share price is up 6% to $63.33

The Pilbara Minerals Ltd (ASX: PLS) share price is up 6% to $3.73

Why are ASX lithium shares rocketing?

While some ASX lithium shares are rising following the release of news, the general driver of these gains has been a strong gain by their peers on Wall Street overnight.

For example, Albemarle Corporation (NYSE: ALB) jumped 10% and Livent Corp (NYSE: LTHM) was up 9% in New York.

Investors were flooding back into the beaten-down lithium industry after US inflation cooled, sparking hopes that interest rate rises are now over. This could be seen as good news for the electric vehicle market, which requires lithium for batteries, as higher rates have an impact on consumer spending.

What about news?

There is also some company-specific news in the industry today, such as Allkem receiving FIRB approval for its proposed merger with Livent Corp.

In addition, James Bay Minerals revealed elevated lithium readings from the portable LIBS analyser obtained from the Hawker and Gauntlet pegmatites. This is located within the company's Aero Property.

But if you thought we had now seen them all, think again! Hot on the heels of the recent initial public offering (IPO) of James Bay Minerals Limited (ASX: JBY) last week, a couple more ASX lithium shares are expected to hit the ASX boards in the coming weeks.

Which ASX lithium shares are having IPOs?

The next lithium share to list on the ASX is Chariot Corporation Ltd (ASX: CC9).

It is based in North America and focused on discovering and developing high-grade and near-surface lithium opportunities in Wyoming. Its two core assets are the Black Mountain (Hard Rock Lithium) and Resurgent (Claystone Lithium) projects.

Chariot is seeking to raise $15.5 million through the issue of approximately 34.45 million shares at an issue price of 45 cents per new share. This would give it a market capitalisation of approximately $82.5 million at listing.

The company expects to list on the ASX next month on 2 October.

What else is listing?

Midwest Lithium Limited (ASX: MWL) is another future ASX lithium share. Like Chariot, it is based in North America.

It is a hard rock lithium exploration company focused on the South Dakota Lithium Project in Black Hills, South Dakota.

The company notes that it controls some of the largest past-producing lithium mines in the area and is surrounded by fellow lithium explorer Iris Metals Limited (ASX: IR1). Mapping and geochemistry work is underway with initial drilling of priority targets starting in the final quarter of 2023.

Its IPO aims to raise between $13 million and $17 million through the issue of 52 million to 68 million new shares at 25 cents per share. This will give it a market capitalisation of $66.25 million to $70.25 million at listing.

Midwest expects to list on the ASX boards on 17 October.

James Bay Minerals Limited (ASX: JBY) shares are rising again on Wednesday.

At the time of writing, the lithium explorer's shares are up 50% to a new high of 45 cents.

This means the James Bay Minerals share price is now up over 100% since completing its IPO on Tuesday.

Why are James Bay Minerals shares on fire?

Investors have been fighting to get hold of the company's shares since they hit the ASX boards yesterday following a $6 million IPO at 20 cents per new share.

The reason for this is the potential of its properties in the heart of the La Grande Greenstone Belt in Canada. Management highlights that its ~224km squared portfolio is close to some high-quality lithium projects.

For example, the company's Aero, Aqua, and Joule properties are located directly along-trend from the Corvette lithium discovery. This is where Patriot Battery Metals Inc (ASX: PMT) recently reported a globally significant maiden inferred mineral resource estimate of 109.2Mt at 1.42% Li2O.

Whereas the company's Troilus property is located just 5km from the Moblan lithium deposit owned by Sayona Mining Ltd (ASX: SYA). The deposit has measured, indicated and inferred resources of 51.4 million tonnes @ 1.31% Li2O.

So, with a market capitalisation of approximately $25 million, there are some potentially big returns ahead for investors if the company can find similar lithium deposits within its properties.

James Bay Minerals' executive director, Andrew Dornan, appears optimistic that the company could have success with its exploration activities. He said:

This strong interest from investors [for the IPO] reflects the exceptional outlook for the lithium market and the outstanding credentials of the James Bay region as a lithium exploration hotspot.

We are starting our life as a Canadian-focused lithium explorer against the backdrop of unprecedented activity within the global lithium sector. Recent major news emanating from the James Bay district vindicates our strategy to focus on the James Bay area as the next major global frontier for hard rock lithium discoveries of scale.

James Bay Minerals is a lithium explorer that has secured an extensive (~224km2) and highly strategic ground position in the heart of the La Grande Greenstone Belt in Canada.

The company notes that this area has risen to prominence in recent times following several world-class lithium-pegmatite discoveries.

Its Aero, Aqua, and Joule properties are located directly along-trend from the Corvette lithium discovery, where Patriot Battery Metals Inc (ASX: PMT) recently reported a globally significant maiden inferred mineral resource estimate of 109.2Mt at 1.42% Li2O.

In addition, its Troilus property is located 5km from the Moblan lithium deposit owned by Sayona Mining Ltd (ASX: SYA). It has measured, indicated and inferred resources of 51.4 million tonnes at 1.31% Li2O.

Another positive is the ASX lithium stock has an experienced board and management team. This includes former key executives from Pilbara Minerals Ltd (ASX: PLS) and Nemaska Lithium (NMX: TSX).

James Bay Minerals IPO

The ASX lithium stock raised $6 million at 20 cents per new share through its IPO, which closed early following a strong response from new institutional and retail investors.

This gave it a market capitalisation of $12.1 million at listing.

James Bay Minerals' executive director, Andrew Dornan, commented:

We are absolutely delighted by the strong response from investors to the IPO, which saw us achieve our $6 million maximum subscription well ahead of schedule. This strong interest from investors reflects the exceptional outlook for the lithium market and the outstanding credentials of the James Bay region as a lithium exploration hotspot.
