It's proved to be a spectacular day for ASX gold share Tempus Resources Ltd (ASX: TMR). The tiny miner has struck gold in a big way, with assays from its Elizabeth Project returning whopping finds.

The stock was halted at 5.4 cents on Friday afternoon, likely leaving investors wondering what today might bring. And no doubt, many were pleasantly surprised this morning.

The company revealed assays results from five drill holes conducted at the project shortly after the ASX opened this morning, sending the gold share soaring.

At its highest point of today's session, the Tempus Resources share price reached 9.2 cents – marking a 70% gain.

Since then, the stock has fallen slightly to trade near the market close at 8.1 cents. That's still 50% higher than its previous close.

Let's take a closer look at the whopping find driving the ASX gold share on Monday.

What's going right for this ASX gold share?

The Tempus Resources share price is rocketing after the company announced assays revealing more 'bonanza' grade gold mineralisation over wide zones at its Elizabeth Project.

The drill holes related to today's news were conducted at the project's No. 9 Vein, Blue Vein, and West and Main Veins.

Drilling at the No. 9 Vein returned 28.1 grams of gold per tonne over 28.5m, setting a new record in terms of combined grade and width for the project.

Tempus Resources president and CEO Jason Bahnsen dubbed the result "extraordinary", saying:

[It intersected] certainly one of the best intersections I have seen during a +30-year career.

Assays have also extended bonanza and high-grade zones at both the No.9 Vein and the Blue Vein to more than 150m each in strike.

Bahnsen noted it's possible the veins were joined. If so, there is the potential for additional gold mineralisation at the intersection and more extensions along the strike to the southwest.

Assays from the West and Main Veins provide more confirmation the veins extend around 220m beyond the previous drilling – thereby extending the vein sets to around 400m.

The company is still awaiting results from another six drill holes, including holes targeting the above-mentioned veins.

Sadly, though, today's gain hasn't been enough to boost the ASX gold share back into the long-term green. The stock has fallen 36% since this time last year.

Three ASX mining shares with tiny market capitalisations are rocketing this afternoon, helping to lift the materials sector into the green on Monday.

The S&P/ASX 200 Materials Index (ASX: XMJ) is one of the best performers today, up 0.48% at the time of writing.

Investors might hope that positive developments like these and others will help give the broader market some buoyancy, as the S&P/ASX 200 Index (ASX: XJO) is currently slipping 0.12%.

Let's cover which small-cap companies are helping to boost today's sentiment to higher levels.

Tempus Resources Ltd (ASX: TMR)

The Tempus Resources share price is up 8.47% trading at 6.4 cents at the time of writing today.

This morning the gold exploration company announced that it had intersected 1,572 grams of gold per tonne at its Elizabeth Project in Southern British Columbia.

The company advised that drill-hole EZ-22-09 returned "bonanza" grades including the "best intersection ever encountered at Elizabeth Gold Project". It has found high-grade assays over widths of up to 1.05m in multiple intersections.

Tempus Resources CEO Jason Bahnsen commented on the results:

Assays announced today confirm the presence of more high and bonanza grade gold in the Blue Vein. The visible gold observed in the core for drill-hole #9, as reported on 7 July, has assayed approximately 50oz of gold per tonne over 0.20 metres, our highest grade intersection from the project to date.

This drill hole intersected the vein approximately 15 metres below the previously announced EZ-22-03 drill hole, showing vertical continuity of the high grade zone. All seven drill holes reported today intersected the Blue Vein at multiple points further supporting the model for stacked vein mineralisation throughout the Blue Vein structure.

The company has completed 30 drill holes to date, with a further 20 pending assay results.

Meeka Metals Ltd (ASX: MEK)

The Meeka Metals share price is also having a good run today after a recent discovery.

Shares in the rare earth miner are up 2.9% at 7.1 cents after touching an intraday high of 7.5 cents in early trading. This comes after the company posted assay results from its Circle Valley site in Western Australia, which included high grades of neodymium (NdPr) and scandium (Sc).

Meeka Metals managing director Tim Davidson had this to say about the discovery:

Results continue to show a shallowing cover profile at the northwest of Circle Valley, corresponding with a +1,000ppm high-grade component of the rare earth mineralisation, rich in NdPr magnet rare earth elements.

This shallow high-grade mineralisation appears to trend northwest into an undrilled part of Circle Valley, which will be a focus for Mineral Resource infill drilling commencing in early 2023.

Sarytogan Graphite Ltd (ASX: SGA)

Shares in Sarytogan are up 2.5% trading at 41 cents apiece in afternoon trading.

The graphite exploration company posted drilling results from its Sarytogan Graphite Deposit located in Kazakhstan this morning.

"Thick-high grade graphite intercepts" were reported, which included 133.9 metres of graphite mineralisation at its ST-71 hole.

The company advised further assay results were pending, with drilling at the site on track to be completed by November this year.

Sarytogan managing director Sean Gregory commented:

These exceptional drilling results are continuing to expand what is already a giant graphite deposit. Sarytogan's systematic approach is characterising the entire deposit area to identify the best location to be selected for future mining studies.

The Tempus Resources Ltd (ASX: TMR) share price entered the stratosphere on Tuesday after coming out of a trading halt.

During market open, the exploration company's shares kicked off at 7.7 cents apiece but quickly shot up thereafter.

These shares are now up an astonishing 53.33% to 9.2 cents apiece.

Let's take a closer look at what's driving these gains today.

Tempus Resources reports 'highest grade intersections'

Investors are fighting to get a hold of the Tempus Resources share price following the company's assay results.

In its release, Tempus Resources advised it has received assay results for the first three drill holes at the Elizabeth Gold Project.

Located 200 kilometres north of Vancouver in Canada, drill holes EZ-22-01 through EZ-22-03 intersected blue vein gold mineralisation multiple times.

In particular, drill-hole EZ-22-03 had the highest grades ever recorded at Elizabeth Gold Project.

Some of the strongest assay results included:

523.0 grams per tonne of gold over 0.42 metres from 96.91 metres

32.7 grams per tonne of gold over 0.45 metres from 124.02 metres

7.4g grams per tonne of gold over 1.73 metres from 164.41 metres

In total, 18 drill holes have been completed so far in the program that commenced in late May.

A further 15 holes are currently pending assay results, however no timeline has been given on this.

Commenting on the results, Tempus Resources president and CEO Jason Bahnsen said:

We have a phenomenal start, with drill-hole EZ-22-03 reporting the highest-grade intersections we've ever seen at Elizabeth!

The spectacular grades are a cause for celebration given the Blue Vein was only discovered late last year but what's potentially more important is that every hole had multiple gold intersections spaced relatively close together. This indicates potential for stacked high-grade vein mineralisation within a wider Blue Vein structure.

Despite today's strong gains, the Tempus Resources share price has fallen almost 62% over the last 12 months.

The company's shares touched a near all-time low of 5.6 cents last Friday before leaping to April 2022 levels today.

The final ASX mining share pushing 20% or more today is Minerals 260. It is up 20% to 33 cents in late afternoon trading.

Investors have rallied the stock today on no news. Noteworthy, however, is that both gold and copper prices have reversed off their 52-week lows and have retraced a small percentage of gains.

As seen on the chart below, the ASX miner is sensitive to movements in the underlying metals markets it is exposed to. Six-month returns are shown below.

With that in mind, it stands to reason that strength in the gold and copper markets has transferred to Minerals 260.

Since listing last October, the Minerals 260 share price has clipped a 45% loss.

The Tempus Resources Ltd (ASX: TMR) share price is higher today, currently trading up 5.56% at 19 cents each.

Tempus shares are on the move after the company announced a key drilling and exploration update on its Elizabeth Gold project in Canada.

Apparently, the company has intersected a "bonanza" gold target after completing its drilling program at the site.

Here are the details.

What was announced?

Tempus advised it had intersected a new bonanza gold discovery at its Elizabeth site via drill hole EZ-21-12.

The release notes the newly discovered gold vein, known as the "Blue Vein", has now been extended with five additional intersections over a strike length of 380 metres.

Assays related to the Blue Vein discovery reported almost 34 grams of gold per tonne from 118 metres; 24.6 g/t gold at 0.5m from 131 metres; and 8.4 g/t gold over 0.5m from 164 metres.

This most recent drill hole marks a total of 26 holes drilled for 7,280 metres now completed at Elizabeth so far in 2021. There are still multiple assays pending on the results.

Currently, it has 12 assays awaiting results in the lab while results on the remaining 14 holes have been received in full.

The majority of drill holes have returned a positive result, with most of the holes drilled by Tempus "intersect[ing] gold vein structures" at the site.

Overall, the drilling program at the Elizabeth site is "focused on increasing the size and confidence of the historic inferred resource of around 206,39 ounces of gold".

Tempus explains that drilling at the site is showing remarkable similarities to the "Bralorne-Pioneer mesothermal vein system, approximately 30km away".

The Bralorne-Pioneer site was "mined to a depth of 2,000 metres and produced more than 4 million ounces over a period of more than 70 years, from 1900 to 1971".

If there are similarities at the Elizabeth project, it appears to bode well for the Tempus share price.

Temps Resources share price snapshot

The Tempus Resources share price has struggled this year to date, having posted a loss of 22.5% since January 1.

This extends its loss over the last 12 months to 24%. Both results are well behind the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 Index (ASX: XJO)'s gain of around 21% in that time.

The Tempus Resources Ltd (ASX: TMR) share price is on a roller-coaster this week after the company released seemingly good news on Monday.

Before the ASX opened for this week, Tempus announced more positive assay results from its Elizabeth Gold Project.

Despite the seemingly good news, the Tempus share price slipped on Monday and continued falling on Tuesday and Wednesday, clocking up an 11.4% fall over the 3 days.

At the time of writing, the Tempus share price is 19 cents, having rebounded 8.57% on Thursday.

Let's take a look at the news that might have driven the Tempus share price this week so far.

Tempus' week so far

The Tempus Resources share price is soaring today after a tough start to this week.

On Monday, the company announced it suspects it's intercepted a new gold vein at its Canadian Elizabeth Gold Project.

The company released assay results from 4 drill holes completed at the project, highlights of which included:

1 metre at 4.9 grams of gold per tonne from 40.1 metres and 0.7 metres at 9.1 grams of gold per tonne from 51.5 metres.

In one hole, the company found visible gold which could signify a previously undiscovered gold vein.

Tempus' CEO Jason Bahnsen commented on the finding, saying:

When we get visible gold at Elizabeth, it can lead to 'bonanza' grade intersections as we've seen with previous holes announced from this years' drilling.

Despite the positive update, the market sent the Tempus share price lower. However, that dip is being corrected today for no obvious reason.

Also worth noting, is the sheer number of Tempus shares that have been traded this week.

The first 3 sessions of this week saw between 934,387 and 974,430 Tempus shares swapping hands, and around 3.9 million have been traded today.

To put that into perspective, over the past 4 weeks, an average day saw 1.7 million Tempus shares traded.

Tempus Resources share price snapshot

This week's dip has added to Tempus' struggles on the ASX.

Right now, the company's stock is trading for 24% less than it was at the start of 2021. It has also dipped 5% since this time last year.

The Tempus Resources Ltd (ASX: TMR) share price has jumped 4% higher on Thursday following a drilling and funding update.

Why is the Tempus Resources share price climbing?

The Aussie miner has received firm commitments for a $6.28 million placement to issue 24.99 million shares at an average price of $0.251 per share.

That price is a 1.6% premium to the 15-day volume-weighted average Tempus Resources share price. The share placement was oversubscribed and attracted strong demand from international and Australian institutional investors.

Funds raised from the placement will be used to complete the ongoing 12,000-metre drilling program at the Elizabeth Gold Project in Canada. Drilling is continuing at the site with 15 drill holes completed in 2021 so far.

All 15 holes have intersected quartz vein mineralisation between 0.5 to over 6 metres in thickness. The drilling so far has covered approximately 4,300 on the SW Vein.

Assays have been received for the first four holes of 2021. Those results have reportedly demonstrated high-grade and continuity of the SW Vein structure.

The Tempus Resources share price shot higher last Tuesday following its last strong drilling update. That included some "bonanza" grade intersections at Elizabeth.

That included hole EZ-21-04 where the intersection returned 4 metres at 31.2 grams per tonne of gold from 122 metres. This included 1.5 metres at 52.1 grams per tonne of gold (g/t Au) from 123 metres and 0.50 metres at 72 g/t Au from 124 metres.

Foolish takeaway

Today's funding and drilling update has been well-received by the market. The Aussie small cap's shares are up 4% in the early afternoon to 26.5 cents after a strong start to the day.

The Tempus Resources share price has been on a bullish run in August. Shares in the Aussie miner have rocketed 48.57% higher in the past month following a series of updates.

The Tempus Resources Ltd (ASX: TMR) share price stormed more than 14% higher in Tuesday's session.

Shares in the gold explorer received a boost after the company released promising drill results.

Let's take a look at what Tempus announced.

Tempus share price soars on drill results

The Tempus share price is flying after releasing the first assay results from its 2021 drilling program at Elizabeth Gold Project in Canada.

In particular, the company noted a bonanza-grade intersection in hole EZ-21-04.

According to Tempus, the intersection returned 4 metres at 31.2 grams per tonne of gold from 122 metres. This included 1.5 metres at 52.1 grams per tonne of gold from 123 metres and 0.50 metres at 72 grams per tonne of gold from 124 metres.

EZ-21-04 is part of a group of the first four drill-holes of the 2021 program, which were designed to intersect ore shoots at the southwest vein at Elizabeth.

Tempus noted that 14 drill holes have been completed so far at Elizabeth with multiple assays pending.

Tempus President and CEO Jason Bahnsen commented:

Drilling at Elizabeth continues to generate very high-grade intersections over robust widths. We will be receiving further assay results soon and we're very excited to see the results as we continue to expand the Elizabeth resource envelope.

Tempus' update noted that the company's technical team continue to be encouraged by what they are seeing in the drill core. Meantime, drilling continues to systematically explore down dip of the southern and northern ore shoots as well as drill testing along strike to the north.

More on the Tempus share price

Tempus is a dual-listed gold explorer with active exploration projects in Australia, Canada and Ecuador.

The company's flagship project is its Blackdome-Elizabeth Gold Project located in Southern British Columbia. Tempus is currently midway through its drill program at the site.

The Tempus share price received a boost recently after the company reported positive survey results early last week.

Shares in the gold explorer have been rather volatile in 2021. Including today's price action, the Tempus share price is around 10% higher for the year.

At market close on Tuesday, shares in Tempus are 10.42% higher for the day at 26.5 cents. The Tempus share price was up more than 14% earlier in the session, hitting an intra-day high of 27.5 cents.

Let's walk through what the announcement entails.

Quick recap on Tempus Resources

Tempus Resources is in the minerals exploration business and has expertise in developing minerals such as gold and copper.

The company has several projects focused on these minerals dotted across Ecuador, Canada and Australia.

At the time of writing, Tempus has a market capitalisation of around $22 million.

What did Tempus announce?

Tempus has provided readouts from its "first-ever high resolution airborne magnetic and radiometric geophysical surveys" that were completed at Elizabeth.

The company describes its Elizabeth gold project as a "relatively under-explored high-grade mesothermal gold system".

Tempus states the geological characteristics at this site show similarities to a neighbouring system, which was "mined to a depth of approximately 2,000 metres" and produced a mammoth 4 million ounces "over 50 years".

The surveys identified the potential for "a much larger scale gold system" at the site, which equates to an increased "footprint and depth extensions of potential gold mineralisation".

In addition, the surveys found "two additional anomalies" that show "strong continuity" at a reasonable depth.

Speaking on the readouts, Tempus CEO Jason Bahnsen mentioned:

The results of the geophysical surveys show that the intrusive system that hosts the gold veins at Elizabeth is much larger and extends much deeper than previously thought. There are also two additional large-scale anomalies within the project licence. The results highlight the potential for Elizabeth to complement its high-grade nature with very large scale.

Investors have continued buying the company's shares this afternoon, pushing the Tempus Resources share price 16% higher on the day.

Tempus Resources shares are now exchanging hands at 21.5 cents apiece, just off their intraday high of 22 cents.

Tempus Resources share price snapshot

The Tempus Resources share price has posted a loss of 82% since January 1, extending the previous 12 month's loss of 33%.

These returns have lagged the S&P/ASX 200 index (ASX: XJO)'s return of around 23% over the past year.

Despite these returns, Tempus shares have climbed 28% into the green over the last month and more than 15% into the green over just the past week.

Tempus Resources shares boomed in early trade, at one point rocketing by 38% to trade at 24 cents.

At the time of writing, the mineral explorer's shares are trading at 20.5 cents, still 24.24% higher than Friday's closing price.

While there hasn't been any news out of the company today to prompt these share price moves, Tempus has provided the market with several updates lately. Let's take a look.

Tempus Resources placement

On Friday, Tempus announced that its successful private placement raked in $1.9 million for the company, which it will put towards continuing the drilling program at its Canadian Elizabeth Gold Project. The placement included more than 12.4 million shares at 15.3 cents apiece. Publicly traded shares were going for 16.5 cents each before news of the placement broke.

The company's drilling program was suspended in December last year after only completing 11 holes. Though, according to Tempus, the assay results from those holes returned bonanza-grade gold intercepts.

Assay results from the 11 holes included:

5.0m at 61.3 grams of gold per tonne from 116.5 metres, including 1.5 metres at 186.0 grams of gold per tonne from 118.0 metres; and,

3.2 metres at 28.1 grams of gold per tonne from 184.0 metres, including 0.5 metres at 178.0 grams of gold per tonne from 184.5 metres.

The drill program is fully permitted and expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2021.

What else has Tempus been up to lately?

Tempus released the assay results from the Elizabeth Gold Project's 11 holes on 8 February, sending its share price rocketing. Tempus shares closed the day trading at 30 cents – 25% higher than the previous session.

Since then, prior to today's surge, the Tempus share price has been mostly falling. As of Friday's close, the company's shares had dropped 45% since 8 February.

This was despite a number of seemingly positive announcements.

On 22 February, Tempus announced it had finished the first phase of exploration at its Valle de Tigre II Project, located in Southeast Ecuador. It stated it had found coarse gold in streams using panning methods. The exploration also found visible copper.

While the announcement seemed positive, it included bad news of the company's Rio Zarza project – also located in Ecuador. Due to COVID-19, Ecuadorian Presidential elections and recent exploration results, the company suspended strategic discussions regarding the Rio Zarza project.

Then, in late March, Tempus shared two pieces of news.

Firstly, it announced it had completed a joint venture agreement with Robinhood Gold Corp. The agreement gave Robinhood the ability to earn a 75% interest in Tempus' Mineral Creek Project. To do so it must spend $2 million in work commitments before the end of 2023. Robinhood was also given the option to purchase another 5% of the project for C$1 million. The Mineral Creek Project is located in Canada, in an area with a long history of gold mining.

Finally, Tempus shared the results from the sampling program at the Valle del Tigre II Project. The results confirmed the presence of both gold and copper and spurred further exploration.

Tempus Resources share price snapshot

Though there is no apparent reason for the surge, today's boost to the Tempus Resources share price will be welcome news for shareholders, with the company's shares performing poorly of late.

Even after today's gains, Tempus Resources shares are still down by around 15% year to date. Although, they are still up by around 22% over the last 12 months.

The company has a market capitalisation of around $14 million, with approximately 86 million shares outstanding.

At the time of writing, the Tempus share price is surging 20% to 30 cents.

What did Tempus Resources report?

The Tempus share price is on a tear after the company revealed this morning it now has the results of the first 11 drill-holes of its Phase 1 drilling program. All the diamond drill holes, for a total of 2,006 meters, were drilled in the Elizabeth sector of the Blackdome Elizabeth Gold Project. The drilling was completed from mid-November through to mid-December.

Five of the drill-holes unveiled significant intersections of more than 5 grams per tonne (5g/t) of gold. The company reported that the outstanding intersections included:

5.0m at 61.3g/t gold from 116.5m, including 1.5m at 186.0g/t gold from 118.0m, and

3.2m at 28.1g/t gold from 184.0m, including 0.5m at 178.0g/t gold from 184.5m

According to Tempus, these results boost the level of confidence in the company's geological model that will be used for resource estimation work over the next year.

Commenting on the positive assay results, Tempus Resources President Jason Bahnsen said:

The Phase 1 drilling results confirm the high-grade potential of Elizabeth. We look forward to continuing with the drilling program there in the Canadian spring, leading to an updated NI43-101 resource estimate thereafter.

Roughly 66% of the Phase 1 drilling program at the Elizabeth sector has yet to be completed. The company stated it plans to re-start drilling at Elizabeth and complete the Phase 1 program during the northern spring.

Tempus further advised there are still some 4,000 metres of drilling to be done. Once complete, the company plans to prepare for an updated mineral resource estimate immediately and launch a new 7,500 metres Phase 2 drilling program.
