The S&P/ASX 200 Index (ASX: XJO) is only just inside the green for 2026, up 0.8%, but some shares are on a different course.

Here are six stocks that have strong 12-month growth ahead of them, according to market analysts.

CSL Ltd (ASX: CSL)

The ASX 200 healthcare share jumped 9.8% last week while its peers in the S&P/ASX 200 Health Care Index (ASX: XHJ) rose 3.3%.

The CSL share price has cratered over the past two years, but many experts maintain a positive view on the former blue-chip.

There is a consensus moderate buy rating on CSL shares among 18 analysts on the Commsec trading platform today.

UBS renewed its buy rating on CSL shares with a 12-month price target of $158 last week.

This suggests potential capital gains of 47% ahead.

Waratah Minerals Ltd (ASX: WTM)

The Waratah Minerals share price closed out the week at 61 cents, down 1.6% on Friday.

Bell Potter reiterated its speculative buy rating after Waratah Minerals released new assay results last week.

This suggests potential capital growth of 40% ahead.

ASX materials stock Waratah Minerals Ltd (ASX: WTM) is making headlines this week after the company announced positive results from its drilling program in New South Wales.

Company overview

Waratah Minerals is a NSW based, gold-copper exploration and development company.

Its flagship project is its 100%-owned Spur gold-copper project, an advanced stage, pre-resource exploration project in the Lachlan Fold Belt of NSW, located 33km southwest of Orange and 5km from Newmont's Cadia gold-copper operations.

Its share price has increased 70% in the last 12 months, attracting plenty of positive broker attention.

New analysis from the team at Bell Potter indicates it could continue to rise after positive results at its Spur Gold Project in New South Wales.

What did the company report?

According to the announcement earlier this week, drilling results from its Spur Gold Project in New South Wales continue to show that Spur could become a large-scale gold deposit in one of Australia's major gold and copper mining regions.

High-grade gold has now been found 100 metres deeper than previously identified at the eastern edge of the drilled area.

This suggests the gold system may be larger than currently known and remains open for further expansion.

Commenting on the results, Waratah Managing Director Peter Duerden said:

Ongoing drill results from the Spur and Consols Gold Zones continue to deliver strong intercepts highlighting major growth of the gold endowment and a system which remains open in multiple directions.

This systematic drill program is delivering a strong pipeline of news flow as we report the results which unlock the full potential at Spur and create further value for shareholders.

What is Bell Potter saying about this ASX materials stock?

Following the results, the team at Bell Potter released updated guidance on this ASX materials stock.

The broker said Waratah Minerals' program now comprises 10 active drill rigs and continues to extend known mineralisation, infill existing zones and discover new high-grade shoots.

The latest results have confirmed material mineralisation extensions both up dip and down dip of previously reported major intersections, plus identified new high-grade mineralisation at surface.

The Spur project is showing strong indications of delivering a gold-copper deposit of substantial scale and grade in a strategic setting.

The broker has subsequently retained its buy recommendation on this ASX materials stock, along with a price target of $1.05.

From yesterday's closing price of 62 cents per share, this indicates upside potential of more than 70%.

As the world's largest gold miner, Newmont Corporation (ASX: NEM) is one of the first places that investors look when they want exposure to gold.

But being the biggest doesn't necessarily mean it is the best ASX gold stock to buy.

Right now, Bell Potter believes one smaller player in the sector could be destined to deliver material returns to investors over the next 12 months.

Which ASX gold stock?

The gold stock that the broker is bullish on is Waratah Minerals Ltd (ASX: WTM).

It is a New South Wales based gold-copper exploration and development company.

Bell Potter highlights that Waratah Minerals' flagship project is its 100%-owned Spur gold-copper project, which is an advanced stage, pre-resource exploration project in the Lachlan Fold Belt.

This is close to the Cowal Gold Mine owned by Evolution Mining Ltd (ASX: EVN).

The broker points out that the ASX gold stock is ramping up its drilling program. It said:

WTM has ramped up an 80,000m drilling program planned for 2026 which now comprises 10 active drill rigs. The program's objective is to deliver rapid resource growth and high-grade discoveries at the Spur and Consols Zones. To date, the program has expanded known mineralisation, infilled existing zones and discovered new high-grade shoots beyond previously drilled areas. These results support the view that the Spur Project may host a major epithermal-porphyry gold system comparable to the known world-class deposits in the East Lachlan region.

The good news is that initial met testing shows high gold recoveries according to the broker, which bodes well for the future. The broker commented:

WTM has received successful early-stage metallurgical test work results from the Spur Zone, achieving gold recoveries of 90-97% via gravity and conventional cyanide leaching. This is a material initial de-risking milestone for WTM, pointing to a straightforward, conventional process route likely centred on a gravity circuit followed by carbon-in-leach (CIL) or similar. These conventional processing methods typically imply lower processing costs, lower capital requirements as well as reduced technical and operability risks.

Should you invest?

According to the note, Bell Potter has retained its speculative buy rating on the ASX gold stock with an improved price target of $1.05 (from 95 cents).

Based on its current share price of 70 cents, this implies potential upside of 50% for investors over the next 12 months.

Commenting on its speculative buy recommendation, Bell Potter said:

The Spur project is showing strong indications of delivering a gold-copper deposit of substantial scale and grade in a strategic setting. We see potential for the delineation of a regionally significant gold Resource of 2.5-3.0Moz at competitive gold grades between 0.8-1.0g/t Au. This informs our valuation, which is based on a 50:50 blended EV/Resource ounce multiple and risk-adjusted notional mining scenario. We increase our Valuation to $1.05/sh and retain our Speculative Buy recommendation.

Waratah Minerals share closed on Friday trading for 55 cents. In late morning trade on Monday, shares are changing hands for 63.5 cents apiece, up 15.5%.

For some context, the All Ordinaries Index (ASX: XAO) is down 0.4% today, while the S&P/ASX All Ordinaries Gold Index (ASX: XGD) is down a steep 6.6%.

Unlike Waratah Minerals, most ASX gold stocks are deep in the red today following another sharp decline in the gold price. Gold is currently trading for US$4,759 per ounce. This now sees the yellow metal down more than 22% since Thursday's US$5,417 per ounce, according to data from Bloomberg.

Gold came under pressure at the end of last week following news that United States President Donald Trump appointed Kevin Warsh to succeed Jerome Powell as Federal Reserve chair.

Warsh is widely expected to focus on combating inflation, which has the market pricing in higher US interest rates. Higher interest rates in the world's top economy are likely to hinder gold's remarkable bull run, as bullion doesn't pay any interest itself and is priced in US dollars.

Now, here's why a tumbling gold price isn't keeping investors from bidding up Waratah Minerals shares today.

ASX gold stock leaps on strong drill results

Waratah shares are surging today after the company announced a promising batch of new results from the ongoing drill program at its 100%-owned Spur Gold Project, located in New South Wales.

The ASX gold stock reported that complete assay results for five diamond drill holes and partial results from one diamond drill hole (SPD015) have returned "significant intercepts" of gold mineralisation from the Spur and Consols Zones.

SPD021 is likely spurring added interest from investors, with the hole returning the highest-grade interval yet achieved at the site. Top results included 6 metres at 24.56 grams of gold per tonne from 329 metres, including 1m at 146 g/t Au from 333m and 9m at 5.52 g/t Au from 142m.

The miner noted that drilling at Consols continues to demonstrate the increased scale and grade of the mineralised system.

Waratah Minerals currently has seven drill rigs operating at the project, with two at the Spur Zone and five said to be focused on extending the wide and high-grade intercepts at the newly discovered Consols Zone.

What did management say?

Commenting on the results sending the ASX gold stock surging today, Waratah managing director Peter Duerden said, "The partial results from SPD015 are significant and exciting as they indicate one of the many high-grade shoots at Consols potentially extending to surface."

Duerden added:

Results from Spur indicate the potential for extensions at the eastern margin of the system whilst continuing to provide internal definition of high-grade trends including the intercept of 1m at 146 g/t Au in hole SPD021, representing the highest-grade assay recorded to date…

These outstanding results support Waratahs' interpretation that the gold mineralisation at Spur has the potential to be a significant gold system with similarities to other very strongly mineralised gold deposits globally.

Waratah Minerals share price snapshot

With today's intraday gains factored in, shares in the ASX gold stock are now up a whopping 339.3% in 12 months.

In a recent report from Bell Potter, the broker shed light on the exciting ASX small-cap stock, Waratah Minerals Ltd (ASX: WTM).

It has already surged almost 200% in 2025, and completed a $30 million capital raise back in August.

The company is a NSW based, gold-copper exploration and development company.

Its flagship project is its 100%-owned Spur goldcopper project, an advanced stage, pre-resource exploration project set in the East Lachlan region of New South Wales and located ~33km southwest of Orange.

Why is it gaining momentum?

According to Bell Potter, Waratah Minerals' flagship Spur project is showing early indications of delivering scale and grade.

Its strategy has been clear from the outset – targeting the margins of a fertile East Lachlan intrusive complex in search of
epithermal gold and porphyry goldcopper mineralisation.

Recent drilling has returned multiple zones of visible gold, fuelling the company's growth and confidence in the Spur Project

According to Bell Potter, this exploration success shows clear potential for large scale mineralisation. These characteristics are supportive of rapid resource growth and low discovery costs.

The broker also believes the company is led by a management team and board that has a strong track record of value accretive discovery, resource development and divestment.

Nina Hendy, contributing columnist at Bell Potter, said its recent capital raise has drawn investor attention. There has been strong demand coming from existing and new Australian and North American institutional investors.

This has bolstered the shareholder base and lifted shareholder value in a very short space of time.

Recent drilling has returned multiple zones of visible gold, fuelling the company's growth and confidence in the Spur Project. The company has multiple drill rigs on site, with exploration results expected to continue in the coming weeks and months.

How high could it rise?

In a report from Bell Potter in November, the broker said this ASX small-cap is well-funded. It also has a tight capital structure.

The company (as at October 9) held $34m cash and no debt. Bell Potter believes this is sufficient for over two years of exploration at the current rate of expenditure.

The team at Bell Potter initiated coverage in this ASX small-cap with a speculative buy recommendation. It also placed a price target of $0.95 on this ASX small-cap stock.

Waratah Minerals shares closed yesterday at $0.515 each.

From this share price, the target from Bell Potter indicates more than 80% upside.

Elsewhere, TradingView also has a 12 month target price of $0.95.

Online brokerage platform Selfwealth lists the ASX small-cap stock as undervalued by 81%.

Very high.

At market close on Tuesday shares in Waratah Minerals Ltd (ASX: WTM) – previously known as Battery Minerals Limited – closed trading for 12.5 cents apiece. Which would have been an excellent time to buy them!

Yesterday shares in the ASX mining stock rocketed an eye-popping 96%, closing the day at 24.5 cents.

But the rally looks to have some legs.

At the time of writing on Thursday, the Waratah Minerals share price is up another 16.3% in intraday trading at 28.5 cents.

That sees the ASX mining stock up 128% in just two days.

To put that in some perspective, the S&P/ASX 300 Metals & Mining Index (ASX: XMM) is up 3.4% over this same time.

Here's what's been spurring investor interest.

What's boosting the ASX mining stock?

ASX investors are sending the Waratah Minerals share price through the roof after the miner yesterday reported on promising drill results from its on-going exploration program at the Spur gold-copper project, Lachlan Fold Belt, located in New South Wales.

The latest batch of results stem from six reverse circulation (RC) drill holes.

The ASX mining stock is drawing attention after noting that the drilling has identified an open zone of shallow high-grade mineralisation.

Highlights of the results include:

89 metres at 1.73 grams of gold per tonne and 0.08% copper from 115 metres

Including 57m at 2.50g/t Au, 0.11% Cu from 115m

The company said these results confirm the potential for significant shallow gold resources with grades increasing with depth.

Waratah's Spur Project is located five kilometres west from the Cadia Valley Project, owned by global gold mining giant Newmont Corp (ASX: NEM). Cadia is reported to hold more than 50 million ounces of gold and 9.5 million tonnes of copper.

And for our geologically minded readers, Waratah notes that Spur is hosted in "equivalent Late Ordovician aged geology of the Molong Belt within the wider Macquarie Arc".

Commenting on the results sending the ASX mining stock rocketing, Waratah managing director Peter Duerden said:

Spur continues to deliver exceptional drilling results, the results from hole 7 are pivotal, demonstrating a dramatic increase in grades downdip and an association with copper as predicted by our epithermal-porphyry exploration model.

The miner said that additional exploratory drill holes are planned to immediately follow up on these results and further expand its RC drilling program.
