Yandal Resources shares closed on Friday trading for 25 cents. At tithe me of writing in late morning trade today, shares are swapping hands for 29.5 cents each, up 18%.

For some context, the All Ordinaries Index (ASX: XAO) is down 0.3% at this same time.

With today's intraday boost factored in, Yandal shares are up a whopping 110.7% since this time last year.

Here's what's grabbing investor interest again today.

ASX gold share leaps on exploration results

Investors are piling into Yandal shares today after the miner reported on promising assay results from the New England Granite prospect situated within its Ironstone Well-Barwidgee Gold Project in Western Australia.

The ASX gold share drilled 38 air-core (AC) holes as part of its exploration drilling program.

The fire assay results (which test the gold content via a smelting process) from those holes have now been received.

Among the top results, Yandal reported 6 metres at 6.3 grams of gold per tonne from 36 meters, including 2m at 18.2 g/t Au from 36m from one hole.

Likely piquing ASX investor interest, the miner said the high-grade gold intercept in this hole presents a key target. It correlates with an intrusive contact adjacent to the main New England Granite intrusive complex, and it is associated with a previously defined structure.

Looking ahead, Yandal plans to commence reverse circulation (RC) drilling to follow up on the high-grade air-core intercepts within the prospect in April.

What did management say?

Commenting on the strong assays boosting the ASX gold share today, Yandal Resources managing director Chris Oorschot said, "These air-core results continue to build on the discovery potential of the broader New England Granite [NEG] target area."

Oorschot added:

Our best intercept, which includes 2m @ 18.2g/t, is associated with an intrusive contact proximal to an interpreted northeast striking structure. This same structure may have also been intercepted 120 metres to the southwest with 2m @ 6.0g/t in 25IWBAC142.

We will assess whether similar grades continue into fresh rock and test strike continuity associated with the intrusive contact. Positive results would signify another potential gold discovery within NEG.

As for the next steps, Oorschot concluded:

Today's results reinforce the potential we see in the structural targets identified on the western side of the four-kilometre by two-kilometre intrusive complex…. Once heritage clearances are received, we are well prepared to quickly respond with an expanded AC drilling program across the western side of NEG.

Junior ASX gold share Yandal Resources Ltd (ASX: YRL) is off to the races today.

Yandal shares closed on Friday trading for 16 cents. In early morning trade on Monday, shares rocketed to 28 cents each, up 75.0%. After some likely profit-taking, in later morning trade, shares are changing hands for 26 cents apiece, up 62.5%.

For some context, the All Ordinaries Index (ASX: XAO) is up 0.5% at this same time.

Here's what's stoking investor interest in the microcap Aussie gold miner.

ASX gold share surges on exploration results

The Yandal share price is flying higher after the miner reported on some very promising exploratory drilling results.

The ASX gold share has been conducting a reverse circulation (RC) drilling program across its Arrakis Prospect in Western Australia. The program included seven RC holes totalling 1,374 metres.

Yandal highlighted a number of significant results. Among those, one hole returned 54 metres at 1.2 grams of gold per tonne from 108 metres, including 24m at 2.1g/t Au from 138 metres.

The company said the drilling results suggest the presence of a significant mineralised system and confirm Arrakis as a new gold discovery within its Ironstone Well-Barwidgee Gold Project.

What did management say?

Commenting on the results sending the ASX gold share flying higher today, Yandal Resources managing director Chris Oorschot said, "In a region where gold remobilisation within the regolith profile is common and complex, fresh rock tests represent a significant milestone in de-risking and progressing exploration targets."

Oorschot added:

These first results demonstrate significant primary fresh rock mineralisation, confirming the discovery of a new mineralised system at Arrakis and the capacity for this system to be large in scale…

The Arrakis trend has been defined over more than 2.2 kilometres based on 400 metres and 800 metres spaced air-core lines.

Looking ahead, Oorschot said

Our priority going forward is simple: to confirm the extent of primary fresh rock mineralisation across the 2.2km of strike. With one heritage survey complete and a second scheduled for the end of September, Yandal will soon have a significant amount of drilling positions available from which to progress the Arrakis discovery.

The ASX gold share expects to receive the results from five more RC holes around the Arrakis trend in the coming weeks.

With today's big intraday boost factored in, the Yandal Resources share price is up 140% since this time last year.

The S&P/ASX 200 Index (ASX: XJO) has followed Wall Street's lead and is sinking on Friday. At the time of writing, the benchmark index is down 0.95% to 8,081.6 points.

Four ASX shares that are not letting that hold them back are listed below. Here's why they are rising:

Pointsbet Holdings Ltd (ASX: PBH)

The Pointsbet share price is up 2% to 80.75 cents. This may have been driven by a broker note out of Bell Potter. This morning the broker retained its hold rating but lifted its price target to 80 cents. It commented: "PointsBet released its Appendix 4C for 1QFY25 and, in short, it was a good quarter. The key highlights were: Turnover/handle up 3% to $626.8m; Net win (excl. iGaming) up 10% to $60.7m."

Qantas Airways Limited (ASX: QAN)

The Qantas share price is up 1% to $8.17. This is despite there being no news out of the airline operator on Friday. Though, it is worth noting that a number of travel shares are rising today. It is possible that with all their quarterly updates out of the way now, investors are piling into this side of the market once again. Following today's gain, the Qantas share price is now up an impressive 13% in a month and 64% since this time last year.

Serko Ltd (ASX: SKO)

The Serko share price is up a further 4% to $3.22. Investors have been buying this travel technology company's shares this week after it released its half year results. Serko reported an 18% increase in total income to NZ$42.7 million for the six months. And while it still recorded a net loss of NZ$5.1 million, this was a NZ$2.1 million improvement year on year. In addition, the company revealed that it is expanding its existing business in North America. This includes through a long-term partnership with global travel software and technology provider Sabre Corporation (NASDAQ: SABR). Part of the agreement will see Serko acquire Sabre's business travel management solution, GetThere. This will make it the number two online booking tool provider in North America.

Yandal Resources Ltd (ASX: YRL)

The Yandal Resources share price is up 7% to 31 cents. This morning, this gold explorer revealed that it is commencing follow up drilling at the emerging Siona gold discovery. Management advised that the 12-hole, 2,500 metre reverse circulation program will look to confirm the geometry and test the extent of mineralisation. Managing Director, Chris Oorschot, said: "With the Company in a strong cash position, the team is now focused on developing the Siona geology model as drilling progresses and delivering high-quality samples to the lab as efficiently as possible."
