But two that are moving more than most are listed below. Here's why these ASX mining shares are rocketing today:

Novo Resources (ASX: NVO)

The Novo Resources share price is on fire on Tuesday with a 63% gain to 24.5 cents.

This follows news that the company has signed an agreement with the Australian subsidiary of lithium giant Sociedad Química y Minera de Chile S.A. (NYSE: SQM).

According to the release, SQM Australia has agreed to form the Harding Battery Metals Joint Venture and pay $10 million for a 75% interest in five of Novo's prospective lithium-nickel tenements in the West Pilbara.

These tenements are close to the Andover Project owned by Azure Minerals Ltd (ASX: AZS), which SQM is currently in the process of acquiring with Hancock Prospecting.

The ASX mining share's executive co-chairman and acting CEO, Mike Spreadborough, said:

To be participating in a JV with a global lithium leader like SQM is an excellent outcome for Novo and will see us receive an immediate payment of A$10 million that will further boost cash reserves for our primary gold exploration focus. Meanwhile, SQM can focus on the battery metals prospectivity of the West Pilbara area and our shareholders can benefit from future exploration success with a free-carried interest until a decision to mine.

Sarytogan Graphite Ltd (ASX: SGA)

The Sarytogan Graphite share price is up 33% to 26 cents this morning thanks to a positive announcement.

The graphite-focused ASX mining share revealed that it has produced its first spheroidised graphite from the Sarytogan Graphite Deposit in Central Kazakhstan.

Management notes that the result demonstrates its exceptionally high-grade graphite product that can be used in the electric vehicle market.

Sarytogan's managing director, Sean Gregory, commented:

What a way to end the year! This result allays all doubts of the giant and exceptionally high-grade Sarytogan Graphite deposit's suitability to vie for a share of the rapidly growing lithium-ion battery market for electric vehicles and other uses, subject to customer qualification. We have now complimented the ultra-high purity of 99.998% with these outstanding physical spheroidization results at high yields of ideally sized spheres. We now charge into 2024 on a mission to measure the battery performance of these products.

The Sarytogan Graphite Ltd (ASX: SGA) share price has been an exceptionally strong performer on Tuesday.

In morning trade, the graphite explorer's shares rose as much as 43% to 43.5 cents.

The ASX graphite share has since dropped back a touch but remains up 25% at 38 cents.

Why is this ASX graphite share surging?

Investors have been buying Sarytogan Graphite's shares following the release of an update on metallurgical test work for the Sarytogan Graphite Deposit in Central Kazakhstan.

According to the release, a composite sample was blended from samples collected from six diamond drill holes. These comprise three from the Northern Graphite Zone and three from the Central Graphite Zone of the Sarytogan Graphite Deposit.

The composite sample was then subjected to metallurgical test work, which resulted in a graphite purity of 99.70% total graphitic carbon (TGC).

But it gets better! After combining alkaline roasting and chemical purification, the company achieved 99.87% TGC.

Management notes that these results are another step towards the company's strategy to target the rapidly growing battery anode materials market.

The product to support this strategy will be uncoated spherical graphite (USpG). This type of graphite currently trades at more than US$3,000 per tonne, which is approximately triple the price of traditional flake graphite products.

To achieve the specification of USpG, the Sarytogan concentrates will require milling to make spherical graphite balls of 5-20 micron in size and further purification to 99.95% TGC.

'Thrilled with this breakthrough'

Sarytogan Graphite's managing director, Sean Gregory, commented:

Sarytogan is thrilled with this breakthrough metallurgical result by our German laboratory partner Pro-Graphite. The graphite purities achieved are a significant step towards battery anode specification. Sarytogan's giant highgrade Mineral Resource is now complimented by its' premium micro-crystalline high-purity product, credentials that now elevate the project to be a potential answer to the world's projected battery anode material shortage.

Tuesday is proving to be a rough day for the broader ASX mining sector, but three shares are bucking the trend to rocket on news of major discoveries.

They're gaining as much as 24% right now following the release of exciting announcements.

Meanwhile, the S&P/ASX 200 Materials Index (ASX: XMJ) is weighing on the market, falling 0.1%. For comparison, the S&P/ASX 200 Index (ASX: XJO) is up 0.3% right now.

So, what have these tiny ASX mining shares announced to the market today? Keep reading to find out.

3 ASX mining shares soaring on new discoveries

Let's start with the once in a 'blue' moon – or at least, once in 50 years – discovery announced by Green Technology Metals Ltd (ASX: GT1).

The company has uncovered a new discovery, named Blue Bear. It marks the first new find at its flagship Seymour Lithium Project in more than half a century.

It will now push to delineate the discovery's scale and test further targets at the project. It's expected to culminate in an updated mineral resource estimate in the coming months.

The ASX mining share is soaring on the news, gaining 7% to trade at $1.07 right now.

It's joined in the green by its peer, Sarytogan Graphite Ltd (ASX: SGA). The stock has launched a whopping 28.3% to trade at 29.5 cents right now.

The graphite explorer announced high-grade drill results from its namesake project this morning. The drill program is still ongoing and is set to enable an updated mineral resource estimate in the first quarter of 2023.

The final ASX mining share taking off on news of a discovery today is Native Mineral Resources Holdings Ltd (ASX: NMR).

It released an update on drilling underway at Northern Queensland's Maneater Hill Polymetallic Sulfide Prospect. A second diamond drill at the project has intersected targeted sulfide breccia at a depth of 120 metres, confirming the potential that it extends further than anticipated.

The ASX mining share is up 5.7% right now, trading at 18.5 cents.

Three ASX mining shares with tiny market capitalisations are rocketing this afternoon, helping to lift the materials sector into the green on Monday.

The S&P/ASX 200 Materials Index (ASX: XMJ) is one of the best performers today, up 0.48% at the time of writing.

Investors might hope that positive developments like these and others will help give the broader market some buoyancy, as the S&P/ASX 200 Index (ASX: XJO) is currently slipping 0.12%.

Let's cover which small-cap companies are helping to boost today's sentiment to higher levels.

Tempus Resources Ltd (ASX: TMR)

The Tempus Resources share price is up 8.47% trading at 6.4 cents at the time of writing today.

This morning the gold exploration company announced that it had intersected 1,572 grams of gold per tonne at its Elizabeth Project in Southern British Columbia.

The company advised that drill-hole EZ-22-09 returned "bonanza" grades including the "best intersection ever encountered at Elizabeth Gold Project". It has found high-grade assays over widths of up to 1.05m in multiple intersections.

Tempus Resources CEO Jason Bahnsen commented on the results:

Assays announced today confirm the presence of more high and bonanza grade gold in the Blue Vein. The visible gold observed in the core for drill-hole #9, as reported on 7 July, has assayed approximately 50oz of gold per tonne over 0.20 metres, our highest grade intersection from the project to date.

This drill hole intersected the vein approximately 15 metres below the previously announced EZ-22-03 drill hole, showing vertical continuity of the high grade zone. All seven drill holes reported today intersected the Blue Vein at multiple points further supporting the model for stacked vein mineralisation throughout the Blue Vein structure.

The company has completed 30 drill holes to date, with a further 20 pending assay results.

Meeka Metals Ltd (ASX: MEK)

The Meeka Metals share price is also having a good run today after a recent discovery.

Shares in the rare earth miner are up 2.9% at 7.1 cents after touching an intraday high of 7.5 cents in early trading. This comes after the company posted assay results from its Circle Valley site in Western Australia, which included high grades of neodymium (NdPr) and scandium (Sc).

Meeka Metals managing director Tim Davidson had this to say about the discovery:

Results continue to show a shallowing cover profile at the northwest of Circle Valley, corresponding with a +1,000ppm high-grade component of the rare earth mineralisation, rich in NdPr magnet rare earth elements.

This shallow high-grade mineralisation appears to trend northwest into an undrilled part of Circle Valley, which will be a focus for Mineral Resource infill drilling commencing in early 2023.

Sarytogan Graphite Ltd (ASX: SGA)

Shares in Sarytogan are up 2.5% trading at 41 cents apiece in afternoon trading.

The graphite exploration company posted drilling results from its Sarytogan Graphite Deposit located in Kazakhstan this morning.

"Thick-high grade graphite intercepts" were reported, which included 133.9 metres of graphite mineralisation at its ST-71 hole.

The company advised further assay results were pending, with drilling at the site on track to be completed by November this year.

Sarytogan managing director Sean Gregory commented:

These exceptional drilling results are continuing to expand what is already a giant graphite deposit. Sarytogan's systematic approach is characterising the entire deposit area to identify the best location to be selected for future mining studies.
