Investigator Silver Ltd (ASX: IVR) will raise $55 million via the issuance of new equity to accelerate work on its Paris silver project in western South Australia.

The company said in a statement to the ASX on Tuesday that it was in a "very strong" position, with a clear development pathway for Paris, and that it released a definitive feasibility study (DFS) for Paris last week.

Investigator said it had received firm commitments to raise the money at 8.6 cents per share, with its largest shareholder, Jupiter Asset Management, taking part in the raise.

Work to forge ahead

The ASX silver company said following the release of the DFS, its priority was to maintain momentum "and transition immediately from study phase into execution''.

Investigator added:

With an estimated development funding requirement of approximately $260 million for Paris, the company considered it important to secure funding at this stage to remove near-term financing uncertainty and enable an accelerated execution program. The placement strengthens Investigator's balance sheet and supports early, schedule-critical activities that position Paris for a construction decision and accelerate the pathway to first silver.

The DFS indicated that the project would pay itself back in just 11 months, generating strong cash flow from an open-pit mine using contract mining operators.

The 11-month payback was calculated using a spot price for silver of US$80 per ounce, while the current spot price is US$93.48.

Investigator said every US$1 increase in the spot price would translate into a $42 million increase in life of mine cash flows.

Strong silver price a boon

Investigator Managing Director Lachlan Wallace said the DFS confirmed the project as a "financeable and buildable project", bolstered by high margins, impressive economics, and a rapid payback period.

He added:

Since the DFS release, silver has traded above the $US80 per ounce spot case used in the study, reinforcing the strength of the silver price at a time when international demand continues to strengthen and the lack of near-term silver mines coming online demonstrates the need for high-quality projects like Paris to fill the growing gap in supply. Securing this $55 million placement allows us to keep momentum at Paris and along with the completion of the DFS, marks a key step change in focus as Investigator move straight into execution phase.

Mr Wallace said the company would now strengthen its delivery team, focus on early execution activities, and progress long lead time procurement planning.

There would also be more targeted drilling in the initial mining areas "to strengthen lender confidence through the debt repayment period and support more attractive financing terms'', he said.

Investigator shares were 19.2% lower at 9.7 cents in early trade.

Investigator Silver Ltd (ASX: IVR) has released a definitive feasibility study (DFS) into its Paris silver project in South Australia, saying a mining operation would cost $260 million to build and pay itself back in just 11 months.

The ASX silver company said in a statement on Friday that the mine, on the Eyre Peninsula, would generate strong cash flow from an open-pit mine using contract mining operators.

Numbers looking strong

The 11-month payback was calculated using a spot price for silver of US$80 per ounce, while the current spot price is US$92.07.

Investigator said every US$1 increase in the spot price would translate into a $42 million increase in life of mine cash flows.

Investigator Managing Director Lachlan Wallace said the study indicated that the company had a solid project on its hands.

He said:

The feasibility study confirms Paris as a tier-one, high-margin, finance-ready silver development project with strong leverage to the silver price and a practical near-term pathway to silver production. The project is a conventional low-risk development – shallow open-pit, contract mining, and whole-ore leach to produce silver doré; prioritising operability, schedule certainty and a reliable ramp-up. Importantly, the study outcomes are underpinned by a staged mine plan designed to bring forward higher-grade, lower strip ore, build stockpiles and strengthen resilience through the funding and ramp-up period. The development funding estimate includes appropriate allowances and contingency to support a robust, fully-costed funding plan.

Mr Wallace said the company's focus would now swing to development, taking the designs through detailed engineering and contracting, "to firm up execution certainty, progress permitting, and prepare for financing''.

This phase would also include a high-density drilling program targeting the first three years of mining, "to strengthen grade confidence in the early cash-flow window and support a faster lender process to deliver more competitive financing outcomes, which includes pricing, covenants and overall terms''.

Mr Wallace added:

Our objective is clear – move rapidly and methodically from study into development, tighten execution certainty, position Paris to be construction-ready and then look to hit the go-button on building our world-class asset into Australia's leading, pure silver mine.

The DFS said the breakeven price for the mine was US$37.35 per ounce of silver, with the mine to operate for 11 years, including construction, mining 1.5 million tonnes of ore per annum under the current plan.

Shares in the ASX silver company were steady on Friday at 12 cents apiece. The company was valued at $238 million at the close of trade on Thursday.

The silver price remains 153% higher over the past 12 months, despite the recent sell-off, but can it go further this year?

According to the 2026 LBMA Precious Metals Forecast Survey, the average annual price expectation for 2026 is US$79.57 per ounce.

That's lower than the current silver price of US$82.50 per ounce, at the time of writing.

But remember, the US$79.57 is an average annual prediction.

Analysts expect the silver price to trade in a wide range week-to-week, month-to-month, over the next year.

Some analysts suggest the silver price could trade as high as US$160 per ounce at some point in 2026.

Tailwinds for silver

The tailwinds for the silver price include geopolitical risks, the debasement trade, and rising industrial usage due to the energy transition.

As a precious metal, silver is considered the 'poor cousin' of gold, but it's still seen as a safe-haven option, and it's cheaper, too.

That's why the silver price typically runs about the same time as the gold price, but with a lag.

When people want safe-haven investments, they turn to gold first. When gold gets expensive, they turn to silver.

That's why the silver price massively outpaced the gold price last year, lifting 147% versus 65%.

Precious metals have become more attractive to investors due to increased geopolitics risks and a weakening US dollar.

Silver is also an industrial metal that is experiencing higher demand than usual due to the energy transition.

It's a key input in solar panels, technological devices, electric vehicles, and data centres due to its superior conductivity to copper.

Meantime, supply is constrained because silver is typically only produced as a byproduct at copper, gold, lead, and zinc mines.

Limited supply amid growing demand prompted the US to add silver to its critical minerals list last November.

Analyst views on the silver price for 2026

Let's take a look at some of the predictions in the 2026 LBMA Precious Metals Forecast Survey.

Bruce Ikemizu from the Japan Bullion Market Association (JBMA) has one of the most ambitious price targets for the silver price.

JBMA is an industry body that oversees precious metals trading in Japan.

Ikemizu predicts that the silver price could trade as high as US$160 per ounce and as low as US$65 per ounce this year.

Interestingly, the silver price fell from a record US$121 per ounce on 29 January to a low of US$67 per ounce last week during the sell-off.

Ikemizu's average annual price prediction for the year is US$120 per ounce.

The analyst comments:

In addition to the political and fiscal conditions which apply to gold, silver has its own reasons to reach much higher levels: supply and demand.

It's been more than six years of supply shortages and finally we have seen an extreme move in the liquidity of silver in 2025 which could flare up any time again in 2026 as the lease rate remains at a much higher level than gold.

Political moves regarding silver, critical mineral status by the U.S. and export limitation by China add the fuel to the liquidity problem.

The liquidity problem is getting larger and that only leads to higher silver prices.

Julia Du of Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), which is the largest bank in the world by total asset value, also has an optimistic view on the silver price.

Du predicts the silver price may trade as high as US$150 per ounce, and as low as US$62 per ounce during intermittent pullbacks this year.

Her annual average tip is US$125 per ounce.

Du expects sharp fluctuations in the silver price ahead, with periods of profit-taking sending the price lower, as we've just recently seen.

She says:

I expect silver to deliver a bullish performance in 2026, supported by the same macro drivers as gold: persistent geopolitical tensions, strong safe-haven demand, and continued Fed rate cuts.

Silver's smaller market size and lower entry cost make it more volatile, attracting investors seeking alternatives to expensive gold.

Structural supply deficits – driven by robust photovoltaic and industrial demand – combined with rising jewellery and investment purchases, will amplify price swings.

Regional dislocations from potential U.S. tariffs could further tighten supply and fuel speculative spikes.

Caroline Bain from Bain Commodities has one of the more bearish outlooks on the silver price.

She tips the silver price to trade at a peak of US$85 per ounce and a trough of US$45 per ounce throughout the year.

Her average annual price prediction is US$63.50 per ounce.

Bain said:

The price of gold is expected to fall in the second half of 2026, and the silver price is likely to fall by more in percentage terms.

The smaller, less liquid, silver market typically overshoots on both the upside and downside.

That said, the price will hold up better than if the market were solely driven by its high-beta relationship with gold.

There is strong industrial demand for silver in key growth sectors including electronics, renewable energy, automotives and data centres, which will offer underlying support to prices.

China has also started restricting exports and the market is in a structural deficit. Physical stocks are low.

Shares in Andean Silver Ltd (ASX: ASL) were 9.9% higher on Monday at $2.55, Unico Silver Ltd (ASX: USL) shares were 11.64% higher at $1.05, and shares in early-stage company Investigator Silver Ltd (ASX: IVR) were 13.1% higher at 14.7 cents.

This followed the silver price increasing 13.8% to $122.75 per ounce in Australian dollar terms over the course of last week.

Beating gold for gains

MineLife director Gavin Wendt recently published a research note on silver in which he pointed out that the precious metal has outperformed gold in recent times, "with prices swinging sharply as changing economic signals and evolving tariff policies influenced market sentiment''.

Mr Wendt said the strength in the silver price had been underpinned by a number of factors, including a persistent supply deficit, strong industrial demand from the solar industry, and renewed investment flows "as a cheaper alternative to gold''.

Mr Wendt said that uncertainty about whether the US would impose a tariff on silver had led to outflows of the metal from London to the US, resulting in a sharp decline in silver stocks in London, which is the primary trading hub.

Mr Wendt said:

There is … still the possibility of a tariff on silver, with the recent inclusion of the precious metal to the US Geological Survey list of critical minerals increasing the likelihood of US import tariffs.

Macro trends support strong prices

Mr Wendt said as we move further into 2026, silver would continue to be supported by improving investor sentiment towards precious metals "and tightening physical balances''.

He added:

From a macro perspective, silver should benefit from the same drivers expected to support gold – a softer US dollar, Federal Reserve rate cuts, and renewed appetite for safe-haven assets amid geopolitical concerns. Historically, silver has outperformed gold during easing cycles, as lower real yields tend to lift both investor allocation and industrial activity.

Mr Wendt said a key difference to gold was that industrial demand accounted for more than half of total silver consumption.

Demand for solar is likely to slow, particularly in China after a few strong years, however additional demand tailwinds come from electrification, power grid upgrades, and growing use of silver in automotive components, especially in hybrid and battery electric vehicles.

Mr Wendt said silver can "massively outperform gold in a bull market", but it can also fall harder in a downturn, and he expected price volatility to continue this year.

In late morning trade on Tuesday the S&P/ASX All Ordinaries Index (ASX: XAO) is up 0.2%.

But you're unlikely to find any of the Aussie silver miners in the green today.

Here's how these top ASX silver stocks are tracking at time of writing:

Silver Mines Ltd (ASX: SVL) shares are down 4.4% at 21.5 cents

Investigator Silver Ltd (ASX: IVR) shares are down 6.7% at 14.0 cents

Sun Silver Ltd (ASX: SS1) shares are down 4.7% at $1.925

Unico Silver Ltd (ASX: USL) shares are down 7.7% at 84.0 cents

South32 Limited (ASX: S32) shares are down 2.8% at $3.49. (South 32 has significant silver exposure from its Cannington silver mine.)

Now, despite today's losses, you shouldn't feel too sorry for stockholders of the above companies.

That's because the silver price hit new record highs of US$80 per ounce last week, putting the precious metal up 176% over 12 months.

And that's helped send the Aussie silver miners soaring.

Here's how these same ASX silver stocks have performed over the past full year, inclusive of today's intraday slide:

Silver Mines shares are up 165.0%

Investigator Silver shares are up 600.0%

Sun Silver shares are up 193.9%

Unico Silver shares are up 322.5%

South 32 shares are up 2.9% (reflecting its more diverse mining operations)

Here's what's happening today.

ASX silver stocks flattened on silver sell-down

After the historic rally to US$80 per ounce last week, the silver price tumbled 8% overnight to currently be trading for US$72.27 per ounce.

But that sell-off shouldn't have come as any great surprise.

Matt Maley, chief market strategist at Miller Tabak + Co said that precious metals (the record setting gold price also has slipped more than 4%) "had become quite overbought on a short-term basis, so the fact that they're seeing some outsized declines this morning is not the end of the world at all".

Commenting on the pullback in international mining stocks, Maley added (quoted by Bloomberg), "We believe that any weakness in these names over the next week or two should create another good buying opportunity."

David Meger, director of metals trading at High Ridge Futures noted (quoted by Reuters), "All the metals moved up to recent and all-time highs. We are seeing profit-taking pullbacks off of those spectacularly high levels."

But ASX silver stocks could keep shining bright in 2026.

"I believe that the underlying fundamentals of (silver) supply constraints remain factors in the market and we still have positive prospects going into 2026," Meger concluded.

Shares in Investigator Silver Ltd (ASX: IVR) were trading higher on Tuesday after the company revealed updates to the feasibility study for its Paris project in South Australia.

The company said it had changed key parameters of the definitive feasibility study for the mining project on the Eyre Peninsula, which would lead to a 6% increase in silver recovery.

The company also said it had revised the open pit size, incorporating new cost inputs and a higher assumed silver price, which reduced the economic cut-off grade and improved the strip ratio, "highlighting the potential to increase the mineable inventory''.

Key milestones being ticked off

Investigator Managing Director Lachlan Wallace said the project continued to mature "through a disciplined and transparent process''.

Mr Wallace went on to say:

By reporting key technical outcomes as individual workstreams advance, we are providing shareholders with clear visibility on how the study is progressively strengthening the project design and development framework. In a silver price environment that is at, or near, record levels, it is particularly encouraging to see the technical studies responding as expected. Pit optimisation work indicates the potential to capture additional mineralised material within the mine plan through a lower economic cut-off grade, while concurrent metallurgical test work has delivered higher silver recoveries through a finer grind. Together, these outcomes reinforce the leverage of the Paris Silver Project to silver price and the quality of the underlying resource.

Mr Wallace said the company was now focused on progressing the project through detailed scheduling, process design, and cost finalisation, with Investigator "firmly on track" to deliver the completed definitive feasibility in the first half of 2026.

High silver price a game-changer

The company said it had revised the size of the open pit using a cut-off grade of $70 per ounce of silver, which was still "materially below the current spot price of approximately $95 per ounce".

At this price, and using updated cost assumptions, the estimated economic cut-off grade reduces materially from 43.5 grams per tonne silver in the 2021 pre-feasibility study to a range of 22-27 grams per tonne silver, depending on host rock type. This reflects materially improved project economics at the optimisation level under current market conditions. The lower cut-off grade increases contained silver within the optimised pit shell by approximately 13 million ounces relative to the pre-feasibility study.

Investigator shares were trading 8.2% higher at 7.9 cents on Tuesday.

The company was valued at $144.5 million at the close of trade on Monday.

ASX silver shares are back in the spotlight as the demand for precious metals like silver and gold surges.

With central banks poised to start their interest rate-cutting cycle around the world (the European Central Bank already has), many investors are piling into these metals, expecting a breakout rally.

And whilst the 'golden child' of the gold/silver pairing usually steals the limelight, experts believe the stage has been set for a breakout in silver prices.

Could this be the perfect moment to add ASX silver shares to your portfolio? Let's see.

Why are silver prices surging?

Gold has taken off in 2024 and posted a series of new all-time highs in the process.

But silver has outperformed gold recently, rising over 29% this year in USD terms to trade at US$30.73 per ounce at the time of writing. This could draw attention to ASX silver shares.

Whereas gold's recent demand spike is fuelled by global central bank buying and increased potential concerns about the economy and inflation, silver's dual role as a precious and industrial metal makes it a unique investment.

Not only does silver benefit from the same safe-haven demand that drives gold higher, but its industrial uses – particularly in solar panels and electronics – are boosting demand even further.

In a recent note, Citi analysts predicted silver prices could surge 15% this year to US$35 an ounce and climb to US$38 an ounce by mid-2025, according to The Australian Financial Review.

The broker says several forces are combining to form the rally. As the US Federal Reserve prepares to cut interest rates, precious metals like silver become more attractive.

Rate cuts typically reduce the allure of income-generating assets like bonds. This shifts investors' focus to assets like gold and silver, which can hold value during economic uncertainty. This could also impact ASX silver shares.

But silver has roles outside of its investment status. It also plays a significant role in the solar energy sector. It is used in the production and operation of solar panels.

According to The Silver Institute, silver is "the world's best conductor" of electricity, even better than copper.

Meanwhile, The International Energy Agency (IEA) suggests that installations of solar energy systems are expected to more than double by 2028 globally.

This demand could be a major tailwind for companies with exposure to the metal.

What's the outlook for silver shares?

In the table below is a list of three companies with concentrate operations in the exploration and/or production of silver.

Company name

Market cap

Adriatic Metals PLC (ASX: ADT)

$1.06 billion

Silver Mines Ltd (ASX: SVL)

$158.3 billion

Investigator Resources Ltd (ASX: IVR)

$61.9 million

Consensus has a strong buy rating on Adriatic Metals according to CommSec. Whereas the other two aren't rated.

But analysts from Goldman Sachs, UBS, and Citi are all bullish on gold and silver., and this could impact ASX silver shares.

Goldman forecasts gold to hit US$2,700 an ounce by early next year. Given silver often follows gold's lead, this trend could further support silver's rise.

Meanwhile, UBS predicts silver prices to continue rising into next year:

We see silver prices rising to USD38/oz by mid-2025, with industrial demand likely to benefit from higher use in renewables and electronics.

Citi, on the other hand, said, "the time is right" to start looking at the precious metal.

Add to this the fact that silver is in a supply deficit, and you have a recipe for a major price surge, according to Tavi Cost, macro strategist at Crescat Capital. He commented on this in a post from June this year:

Silver production in Peru continues to fall severely, now down 43% from peak levels.

Together with China, Peru is projected to be the second-largest producer of silver globally.

Limited new supply paired with structurally higher demand is the perfect recipe for major price surges in any commodity.

ASX silver shares takeaway

Given the current market dynamics, experts say ASX silver shares might present a compelling opportunity.

Time will tell how the investment thesis plays out.

The S&P/ASX 200 Materials Index (ASX: XMJ) is climbing 2.5% in Thursday afternoon trading, but three ASX mining shares are soaring far higher.

ASX mineral explorer shares Anson Resources Ltd (ASX: ASN), Pacgold Ltd (ASX: PGO), and Investigator Resources Ltd (ASX: IVR) are all well in the green today.

Let's take a look at why these ASX mining shares are lifting today.

Anson Resources

Anson Resources shares are up an incredible 42% today on lithium news. The company advised it has the potential to become a major supplier of high purity lithium carbonate to the US electric vehicle (EV) market. This follows the completion of a Definitive Feasibility Study at its Paradox Lithium Project in Utah. Phase one of the project is forecast to deliver US$5.08 billion of revenue in the first 23 years. Anson is targeting production of 13,074 tonnes of lithium carbonate per year.

Commenting on the news, executive chairman Bruce Richardson said:

We are very excited to deliver the Paradox Lithium Project Phase 1 DFS to market. The DFS confirms the technical and financial viability of a major new source of high purity Lithium Carbonate available for the rapidly growing US market.

Pacgold

Pacgold shares are up 22% at the time of writing. In an update today, the company advised drilling intersected with "spectacular visible gold" at the Alice River Gold Project in Queensland. Drillhole ARDH061 intersected with a 16.4 wide zone showing more than 200 occurrences of visible gold. Assay results for 12 further drill holes will be delivered in the future.

Commenting on the news, Pacgold managing director Tony Schreck said:

The intersection of visible gold over a sixteen metre zone is a stunning outcome and represents the first of what we believe could be potential multiple high-grade zones developed along the F1a zone.

Investigator Resources

Investigator Resources shares gained nearly 20% shortly after market open before settling back to 7.32% higher at the time of writing. This follows a "significant rare earth" discovery at the Apollo prospect. Drilling at the project showed high-grade rare earth mineralisation.

Results include:

15m at 3,221 parts per million (ppm) total rare earth oxide (TREO) and 1,099ppm magnet rare earth oxide (MREO) from 66m including

9m at 4,700ppm TREO and 1,772ppm MREO from 72m

The Apollo prospect is 4km north-west of the company's Paris Silver Project near Kimba in South Australia.

Commenting on the news, managing director Andrew McIlwain said:

Our team have already identified a number of opportunities at Apollo following up these exciting silver and REE [rare earth elements] discoveries.

Investigator shares are up 9% at the time of writing, trading at 9.6 cents per share, further boosting their high 688% yearly return.

Investigator Resources is a mineral exploration company focusing on copper, gold, silver and nickel exploration. Its operations include Paris silver, Peterlumbo, Maslins IOCG and Eyre Peninsula projects.

Investigator's Paris of the South

Today's update focuses on Investigator's 100% owned Peterlumbo tenement, which hosts the Paris Silver Project in South Australia. This is home to several drilling targets that were subject to a major drilling operation throughout 2020 and has recently returned assays.

The strongest silver intersections were at the company's Argos, Ares and Paris Dyke targets. The miner found the highest grade at Argos, which returned three metres at 10g/t of silver from 56 metres deep and two metres at 13g/t of silver from 69 metres deep.

Additional results included 25 metres at 0.33% lead and 0.3% zinc from 53 metres deep.

These are the latest in a line of silver mining results that have sent the Investigator share price climbing.

According to the miner, its Paris project is more than just a pretty name. It's the "highest grade undeveloped silver project in Australia".

A "shallow, high-grade silver deposit amenable to open-pit mining", Paris hosts an Australasian 2012 resource estimate of 9.3 metres at 139g/t silver and 0.6% lead for 42 million ounces of contained silver and 55 kilotonnes of contained lead.

The company says an updated resource estimate is due to be finalised within weeks. Metallurgical test work currently targets opportunities to "maximise recoveries", with a pre-feasibility study due in June this year.

What did management say?

Investigator managing director Andrew McIlwain said the results demanded further study:

With more recent work naturally focussed on the growth and advancement of the Paris Silver Project's resource, little work had been undertaken following up known regional opportunities. When capital was raised in August 2020, a commitment was made to pursue the thesis that similar mineralisation could feasibly exist within close proximity to Paris.

We are encouraged by the results, particularly at Ares and Argos, where we are looking for a Paris repeat along trend from Paris. Identification of silver mineralisation in this wide spaced reconnaissance drill program supports our optimism that the region may hosts other further silver deposits and we will embark on further drilling at Argos, Ares and Helen, as well as at Paris Dyke – which delivered encouraging results close to the existing Paris silver resource – in the next few months.

Investigator share price snapshot

The Investigator share price has made impressive yearly returns, led by constant high-grade silver results from its Paris mine. Trading at one cent in June last year, the gains have been consistent, with few significant drops in between.

Still, the Investigator share price has a long way to climb to reach its decade high of 33 cents, set all the way back in 2012.

We take a look at the ASX resource share's latest silver drill results.

What did Investigator Resources report?

The Investigator Resources share price is slipping this morning despite the company reported promising new silver assay results at its 100% owned Paris Silver Project, located in South Australia.

The latest results come from a 20,500-metre infill drilling campaign completed in December.

Topping the high-grade results was 1 metre at 8,210 grams of silver per tonne from 61 metres.

Investigator Resources said other significant results included:

– 19m @ 561g/t silver from 55m in hole PPRC657 (on Line -0.25); including

8m @ 1,240g/t silver from 59m; including

– 19m @ 227g/t silver from 96m in hole PPRC678 (on Line -0.5); including

14m @ 290g/t silver from 96m

The company said these results support the silver grade and mineralisation extension from previous exploration assays, with the potential for mineralisation extension to the east and west.

What did management say?

Commenting on the drill results, Investigator's managing director Andrew McIlwain said:

Reporting the highest-grade intersection of the 2020 infill drill program in Line -0.25 is really encouraging as we are still seeing significant mineralisation in the southern most line of drilling completed in this program, a further 25m south in Line -0.5.

We are confident that the results reported here continue to support our view of the improved continuity of grade and confidence in location of mineralisation in the Paris Silver Project. As previously mentioned, the continuing trend of high-grade mineralisation observed to the south of previously reported results bodes well for inclusion in the upcoming re-estimation of the resource.

McIlwain added that Investigator now needed to put the results together and complete its revised resource estimate for the Paris Silver Project.

The company expects to provide the revised resource estimate before May.

Investigator Resources share price snapshot

The Investigator Resources share price has shot the lights out over the past 12 months, up an eye-popping 740%. That far outpaces the 47% gain posted by the All Ordinaries Index (ASX: XAO).

Year-to-date, the Investigator Resources share price is down 7%.
