ASX gold stock Besra Gold Inc (ASX: BEZ) shares were up 52% at lunchtime on Thursday, trading at 9.1 cents apiece. Shares in the small-cap have since slipped slightly to 8.8 cents at the time of writing.

Investors have reacted positively to a company announcement today advising that an "experienced mining professional" will head up the company's Besra's Jugan Gold Project in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, the spot price of gold has lifted overnight to trade at US$2,443 per ounce. It is up 27% in the past year.

Let's see why investors are buying this ASX gold stock today.

ASX gold stock surges on new appointment

Besra Gold advised today that it has appointed Matthew Antill as the managing director of its Malaysian operating subsidiary, North Borneo Gold Sdn Bhd.

Antill is said to bring more than three decades of experience in mining and mine development, with a focus on gold, including "refractory and narrow vein operations".

His most recent role was chief production and mine development officer at Monument Mining Limited.

The ASX gold stock said the appoinment was a positive move.

Mr Antill will have responsibility for moving the Jugan Project towards commercialisation, through Pilot Production and delivery of the Definitive Feasibility Study…

…Known for his practical and innovative mine design solutions, Matthew leads by example with a hands-on management style, building diverse and high-performing teams to execute plans.

Antill is set to commence his new role on 1 November 2024.

Quarterly cash flow highlights

Besra Gold also released its quarterly activities and cash flow report for the June 2024 quarter this week.

The ASX gold stock reported a cash balance of $27.2 million by quarter end. It says this "more than satisfies" the funding requirements to complete the Jugan Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS) and commission the Jugan Pilot Plant.

Management also said the final batch of Jugan Pilot Plant processing equipment arrived in Sarawak in late July.

Based on these updates, the company said it was well-positioned moving forward.

With its strong cash position, the Company continues to execute its 2024 activities without reliance on equity market funding.

Construction of the Jugan Pilot Plant can commence once the authorities have renewed ML 05/2012/1D and approved it for mining activities. Infill Resource drilling at Jugan will also continue during the September Quarter 2024…

Beras share price snapshot

Besra Gold's recent announcements have evidently boosted investor confidence, driving the ASX gold stock up by 52% in a single day.

The new appointment and cash flow report underlines the company's position concerning its projects.

Investors will be keenly watching Besra's progress. It is moving closer to commercialisation, along with further development of its gold assets.

As always, it is critical to conduct your own due diligence when analysing ASX gold stocks.

Two ASX gold shares are setting the bar high today.

The All Ordinaries Index (ASX: XAO) is down 0.4% at time of writing.

And the S&P/ASX All Ordinaries Gold Index (ASX: XGD) is doing it even tougher, down 0.8% with the gold price edging lower overnight to US$1,929.57 per ounce.

But these two gold stocks are up 14.3% and 22.2% respectively.

Here's why they're going gangbusters today.

What's lifting this ASX gold share?

The first miner having a stellar run today is Besra Gold Inc (ASX: BEZ).

Shares in the gold miner are trading for 16 cents apiece, up 14.3% from yesterday's closing price of 14 cents.

Investors are bidding up the ASX gold share after the company reported that all conditions precedent to the binding US$300 million Gold Purchase Agreement (GPA) with Quantum Metal Recovery Limited have been satisfied.

Quantum is Besra Gold's major CHESS Depositary Interest (CDI) holder.

Under the agreement, Besra will sell Quantum three million ounces of refined gold from its Bau Gold Project (or any other gold project it may own), or until Besra receives aggregate deposits equivalent to US$300 million from Quantum.

Quantum has paid an initial deposit of US$5 million and will deposit up to $US10 million of working capital per month into Besra's drawdown account.

The ASX gold share said it can use the capital for exploration, feasibility studies, mine development purposes and working capital.

Investor enthusiasm may be stoked by the company's reminder that the funding:

[I]s not debt, is interest free and is expected to remove the need for dilutive equity financing and project/corporate debt that would encumber Besra with hedging requirements and/or onerous covenants.

Which brings us to…

Gold miner embracing lithium

OzAurum Resources Ltd (ASX: OZM) is a traditional ASX gold share that's quite recently been turning its attention to lithium.

The OzAurum share price is up 22.2% today, at 11 cents per share.

That sees the OzAurum share price up an eye-watering 266.7% since the closing bell on 14 September.

Yep, that's less than four trading days.

Investor exuberance went into top gear on Friday after the company reported on its potential acquisition of the Linopolis Jaime hard rock lithium project, located in Brazil.

Today, the ASX gold share is soaring again after announcing it has received firm commitments to raise $2.4 million, before costs in a capital raising.

The cap raise is being conducted via a share placement to professional and sophisticated investors at a price of 7.5 cents per share.

While that represents a 32% discount to the current OzAurum share price, this isn't dampening investor enthusiasm for the stock today.

The miner said it will use the fund to commence exploration at its new Linopolis Jaime Lithium Project, including diamond drilling and geological mapping.

OzAurum isn't forgetting about gold, though. The company also said it will employ some of the new funds to progress the scoping study at its Mulgabbie North gold project, in Western Australia.

Commenting on the cap raise sending the ASX gold share soaring today, CEO Andrew Pumphrey said:

This raising ensures that OzAurum can move quickly to commence exploration of its new lithium projects in Brazil along with furthering the exploration at our WA gold projects.

The Linopolis Jaime Lithium Project with a 7 plus metre wide spodumene zone with an average grade of spodumene crystals of 6.94% LiO2 offers an immediate drill target and potential for a new lithium discovery. Significant upside also exists with over 20 LCT pegmatites identified within the project area to date.

It's been a top day for the All Ordinaries Index (ASX: XAO) and ASX shares so far this Tuesday. At the time of writing, the All Ords has gained a healthy 0.51%, lifting the index to back over 7,550 points. But let's talk about one ASX gold share that is doing markedly better than that.

The Besra Gold Inc (ASX: BEZ) share price closed at 27 cents yesterday. But today, the ASX gold share has rocketed all the way up to 33 cents a share. That's a gain worth a happy 22.22% at present. Earlier this afternoon, Besra shares climbed as high as 37 cents each, which was a gain worth more than 33% at the time.

So what's going on here that has seen this small-cap ASX gold share rocket so enthusiastically?

ASX gold share inks cash for gold deal

Well, it appears to be a result of the ASX announcement Besra made to investors this morning. This announcement revealed the company has secured shareholder support for a rather unusual variety of funding facility in a partnership with Quantum Metal Recovery Inc.

Quantum has now provided Besra Gold with an initial deposit of US$5 million. Under the agreement, the company may provide Besra with up to an additional US$10 million in funding per month, up to a cap of US$300 million.

However, Besra was at pains to say that this funding facility "is not debt and is interest free".

Instead of paying Quantum back its cash along with interest, Besra instead will "deliver to Quantum up to 3,000,000 ounces of future gold produced from the Company's projects".

It's cash for gold, on a corporate scale.

Besra Gold has declared that this arrangement "is one of the largest deals of its kind signed by an ASX-listed junior". It says the deal will enable it to "fully fund production at the Bau Gold Project and appraise other deposits within the Bau goldfield corridor."

Besra told investors that it is entitled "to deploy the proceeds towards a variety of uses, including exploration, feasibility studies, mine development purposes and working capital".

Clearly, investors are very excited over this news and have sent up the Besra Gold share price accordingly. Today's gains take this ASX gold share's price to a year-to-date gain of a whopping 550%.
